Almost immediately after hitting publish on my last article about how the so-called “Resistance” to the Trump administration doesn’t actually resist Trump’s most pernicious agendas in any meaningful way, I saw an awesome video clip proving that there is at least one woman out there providing real opposition to Trump where it matters.

A think tank is an organization wherein highly-paid academics pour their collective brainpower into coming up with convincing arguments that it would be good and smart to do something evil and stupid. At one such think tank, the Hudson Institute, former John Bolton advisor and current Mike Pompeo lackey Brian Hook had his neocon cuddle party interrupted by CodePink activist Medea Benjamin Wednesday morning. Benjamin excoriated the Director of Policy Planning for Pompeo’s Iran Action Team, decrying the Trump administration’s crippling sanctions following its withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal.

“That is the most ridiculous thing I have seen,” Benjamin exclaimed while security staff worked to muscle her off the stage. “The world community wants to keep the Iran nuclear deal. Our allies—the Germans, the French, the British—they want to keep in this deal. The world community wants to keep the deal. Let’s talk about normal countries. Let’s talk about Saudi Arabia. Is that who our allies are? They are the biggest threat to the world community. And let’s talk—you’re hurting me. You’re actually hurting me. I want to ask: Do you think these sanctions are hurting the regime, or are they hurting the Iranian people? They’re hurting the Iranian people. You are making a case for war with Iran. How did the war with Iraq turn out? You’re doing exactly the same thing we did in the case of Iraq. We don’t want another war in the Middle East. Let’s see, how did Iraq turn out? How did Libya turn out? We have the people of Syria suffering. And how dare you bring up the issue of Yemen? It’s the Saudi bombing that is killing most people in Yemen. So let’s get real. No more war! Peace with Iran!”

The think tank ghouls chuckled and mocked her, but the damage was done and the video went viral.

As a reminder, the Trump administration has not only leveled crippling sanctions upon Iran with the goal of fomenting civil unrest, but has also escalated CIA covert operations led by Trump-appointed officials and cultivated an intimate relationship with the MEK terror cult, which is spearheading a social media propaganda campaign against the Iranian government directed at western audiences. The Trump administration’s approach to Iran is in these ways mirroring the Obama administration’s approach to Libya and Syria, and has been called a regime change policy in all but name due to the many unrealistic demands being made of the Iranian government in order to deescalate. These escalations could easily erupt into direct hot war in the future, especially with this administration being stuffed to the gills with virulent Iran hawks at the highest levels.

The Medea Benjamin video is so tasty I’ve watched it several times. It feels like it’s attuning my cells and reminding me what it takes to put up real time resistance in the stifling atmosphere of opposition by breaking through the somnolent hypnosis of tribal dynamics.

This is what it takes. But this is all it takes. Interrupt our regularly scheduled programming with a burst of truth and humanity will inevitably rouse a few more from their hypnosis, and a few more awake is a few more towards tipping point. While Democrats are holding demonstrations in support of longstanding neocon agendas against Russia and leftists are gathering to punch racist nobodies in the face, this feisty little sheila threw her body into the bright lights of the brainwashing machine and jammed it right up until they had to physically remove her.

Are we seeing the heart of the anti-war left kick back into life? I sure fucking hope so. Unlike the impotent busybox of Russiagate, this is the resistance to Trump that is real, and it will work. Attacking the Trump administration on their continuation of Bushbama’s warmongering ecocidal, omnicidal policies and refusing to fall in line with longstanding neocon agendas runs interference on the very lifeblood of the parasitic elite that seek to suck the tax dollars of working Americans into murdering humans and fattening Raytheon profit margins.

Destroying the war machine fixes everything from climate change to living standards, terrorism, famine, homelessness, mental health, slavery, plus all the horrors that war always necessarily births into the world such as rape, black markets, human trafficking, refugee crises and so on. Not to mention the butchery of humans for profit which is what war is. Putting up resistance by breaking the hypnotic effect of war propaganda works. No one actually wants war apart from a handful of powerful elites who fund these think tanks to weave lies and manipulate truth into stories that will manufacture consent for endless military bloodbaths. Simply using the truth to run interference on these lies and spin is enough.

Medea Benjamin is my hero. People are going to tell me that she and her organization haven’t been exactly 100 percent perfect on every single issue every single day, because this is the left and that’s what the left does. But I don’t care; anyone who’s willing to throw a hammer in the gears of the machine to any extent is a hero to whatever extent that they did so. Enough of us doing what Medea Benjamin did would bring the entire machine crashing down.

Medea Benjamin, thank you. I salute you.

  1. Judge Kavanaugh will almost certainly be approved to sit on the Supreme Court on Friday morning.

The nomination process has been pure theater. Kavanaugh is suspected of being against abortion rights and the “left” has focused on that. Some dubious allegations of sexual abuse grabbed headlines for several weeks but have (predictably) had no substance.

Because of these spurious allegations, women’s voices are now suspect. The move to a more conservative and authoritarian society requires that women are shut up.

But with these headline-grabbing allegations the Democrats have done more than undermine the credibility of women, they have also caused serious questions about Kavanaugh to be ignored. Chief among these is his record wrt national security and Presidential power. It’s hard to find a more pro-executive branch judge than Kavanaugh.

Along those lines, Kavanaugh’s work in the Bush Administration has been hushed up. His Bush-era work may have involved such things as the legal case for rendition and torture.

With Kavanaugh and Gina Haspel, we are seeing promotion of useful idiots that solidify “Deep State” control and ready a move to full authoritarian rule.

Thanks to ‘sheep-dog’ Sanders, ‘Goldwater girl’ Hillary, and the Clinton’s cult-like machine politics, the plutocratic ‘establishment consensus’ (my term) continues unabated. We are sleep walking into dystopia.

(originally posted this comment at moonofalabama.org)

    1. Jackrabbit, “Because of these spurious allegations, women’s voices are now suspect. The move to a more conservative and authoritarian society requires that women are shut up.”

Not being confrontational here but why exactly will all women’s voices be suspect?!

And who is calling for all women to shut up?! Where in the world does this notion come from? TPTB certainly want no dissent but how can it be considered that they only want to shut up women dissenters and not male dissenters?! Not only that how can it be considered that TPTB want to shut up all women whether they are dissenters or not?!

We currently live in an asylum nation where victimhood is the ultimate social status.

But I do agree with you that Kavanaugh has plenty of bad views, especially his stance on presidential powers and wars, with which the dems should have rallied around. And it is telling that the dems did not. Why? Because the dems are no more interested in stopping wars and federal power than are the repubes.

      1. InfoRebelScum

My comment is based on how Clinton-led “Third-Way” Democrats have, over the last 20 years, betrayed the people and blocked real progressive initiatives. The result: rampant military spending, the worse inequality in generations, and a security state that borders on a police state.

IMO MAGA looks back to a time when women’s voices were not valued. And I suspect that the Democratic Party is acting as handmaiden for that return to “simpler values”. Why else would they push for what most see as flimsy, political-driven accusations? This ‘hysterical’ effort only discredits women.

Already I see blog posts describing vindictive women like this one:

        http://turcopolier.typepad.com/sic_semper_tyrannis/2018/09/httpsbangordailynewscom20180925newshancockman-reaches-settlement-with-maine-officials-after-suing-o.html

        Here’s part of one comment:
“We reckon that 90% of the women are lying. Where do you think this derives from? If emotions rule you then by definition you are not rational. Young women for the most part are ruled by extreme emotions probably dictated by estrogen.”

So, you’re right no one’s calling for all women to shut up. No politician would/could do that. Instead, they can act in a way that ultimately discredits women so that #MeToo, Medea Benjamin, Venessa Beeley, Eva Bartlett and other women are dismissed as “emotional”. Bonus: eliminate public discussion of serious problems with Kavanaugh’s nomination.

        1. JR, thanks for the reply. I learned a long time ago that the issue is not D v R but the elite v everyone else. MIC’s puppets are all just that – puppets.

I do not see anything wrong with “simpler values”. The values themselves were not wrong; denying others their own right to enjoy those values was the problem not the values themselves IMHO.

Idiot posters posting idiotic things is just part of discussion boards but they should not be considered as overall indicative of the cultural climate IMHO.

As for Kavanaugh, to any honest observer it is clear the dems are just playing their usual political games. They cannot or will not go after Kavanaugh on real issues so they have to attack him personally with clearly false accusations.
Progs, wanna know why Trump got elected? Partly because of just this type of typical political games crap – people are sick of it. If the dems have problems with any nomination then they should fight it out in the arena of ideas not with the politics of personal destruction. Seems to me the progs must have some pretty weak positions if they cannot do that.

      2. https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/09/kavanaugh-nomination-circus-could-destroy-me-too-movement/

“All of this will add up to the average person, who naturally wants justice for survivors, being less inclined to take sexual-abuse allegations seriously, the exact opposite of what the Me Too movement has promised and until now largely delivered. Because these accusations against Kavanaugh have so clearly been weaponized as a partisan tool, it only makes sense that onlookers will dismiss stories presented by biased politicians or shoddy reporting.”

And who “weaponized” these accusations? The Democratic Party – which eagerly sacrificed “MeToo” for … what? Nothing! And which has also chosen to ignore Kavanaugh’s extreme pro-executive, pro-security state viewpoint.

Smells like a setup to me. Because THAT’s what the Democratic Party does: protects the establishment.

  2. Thanks for this. I just shared both the article and the video, so I expect that a lot more people will see it.
And, aside from the harm that these people do, in so many countries, what really also galls me is that they are, effectively, doing it in my name. They never asked my permission and I would never give it to them.

  3. Agreed, Inforebelscum. Lots we could discuss but, most important, it IS us vs the elite and that’s the truth we have to fight for.

  4. If this is ‘real resistance,’ then why aren’t those of you praising her doing the same?

It’s not only ineffective, her delivery discredits her message – no matter how true the words – with the net result being negative.

And please don’t play the ‘Left is Anti-War’ act anymore! We saw how ‘anti-war’ the Left is during the Obama years…

    1. Can somebody please tell me what ‘Left’ means now with respect to politics? It used to mean anti-war, social safety net, free education, essential services managed by government. Is any world or party leader apart from Jeremy Corbyn espousing any of these old ‘Left’ policies?

      1. Robyn, that is actually a good question. My answer as one who is neither left nor right is that the cornerstone of leftist thought is that the Individual is subservient to the Collective (The State). This has has not changed with the “New Left”. And this is the evil of the Left, old or new. The New Left merely wants to double down on this evil.

Unlike the old Left the New Left is not interested in solving problems through reason and facts. It is only interested in amassing power for power’s sake by any means and blaming straight White men for everything. And it is part of the MIC Matrix even though most of its followers are not aware of it. They are neo-useful idiots to TPTB’s “Left” side controlled opposition.

PS. Robyn I cannot support “free” education. To do so is to support slavery. And I cannot support slavery under any circumstances.

        1. Inforebelscum, thanks for taking the time to respond. I see we have very different views. I don’t see state provision of essential services as making citizens subservient, I see it as ensuring that all citizens have the best possible education and health services. That way citizens can, in turn, contribute to their society and everyone benefits. Legislation and regulation and above-board elections can ensure that power is not amassed. These are all secondary considerations though, my primary concern is putting a stop to wars. Thanks again for answering my question, appreciated.

          1. Robyn, and I thank you for your kind reply as well. I hope that we can find some common ground beyond our shared anti-war principles. You are 100% correct in that it must be everyone’s primary concern.

FTR I am a NAPist (one who swears strict obedience to the Non Aggression Principle). As such I can only support voluntary actions. But all of government is based on Violence. This I cannot ever support.

And I agree that education is a vital – if not the most vital – component in progressing humanity. Indeed it is because it is so vital that that is why I can never support the government managing it. Government schools do not educate, they indoctrinate students to be obedient to the State aka TPTB. The Left used to correctly call public schools “Conformity Factories”. But instead of properly opposing any form of conformity coercion the New Left (with TPTB’s blessings) merely changed what the conformity standard would be. Yet they embraced the coercion part with gusto.

Please understand that I do not think your concern for the things you support is wrong. I just think that your solution to them is not the way to resolve them. Government is never the friend you think it is.

Again, I appreciate the conversation and I wish peace and prosperity to you and yours.

      2. Thank you, Robyn, for responding to my comment. And thank you as well, Inforebelscum, for your replies!

Gotta say, your definition of ‘the Left’ is awesomely accurate, in my eyes:

“… the cornerstone of leftist thought is that the Individual is subservient to the Collective (The State).

They are neo-useful idiots to TPTB’s “Left” side controlled opposition.”

I can see how Robyn may have a different perspective, due to natural optimism in one’s beliefs.

If you’re in touch with today’s America, it’s impossible to avoid the sociopathic ‘resistance’ by the Trump Derangement Syndrome afflicted. This is – as Inforebelscum so very well communicated – the New Left; hell bent on amassing power for power’s sake by any means and blaming straight White men for everything.

It’s nearly impossible to have a ‘conservative’ speaker on College campuses without violence and vandalism.

We’ve never seen anything like this. No President has ever been subjected to this level of HATE, THREATS, ATTACKS – all so universally, relentlessly organized.

WHY?! What threat is he to the Establishment?! Lots of political ‘gurus,’ including Caitlin, insist on propagating the familiar mantra that, “Trump is Obama is Bush is Clinton is Bush…”

Perhaps that’s true with regard to the aims of MIC. But domestically, NO WAY.

The Swamp FEARS Trump. He must know something – and have to power – to EXPOSE something that they.do.not.want.exposed!

My gut tells me it’s corruption and human trafficking related. And that finally, these sick powerful elites are about to face justice…

How can a pizza shop owner be proclaimed one of the ’50 Most Powerful People’ in Wash DC?? I believe pizzagate is probably THE biggest Wash DC scandal in history, and Trump’s going to blow it wide open…

        1. Hello John

I can see we would have some very interesting discussions and exchange of views if we met in person (although I am definitely not an optimist re world affairs). The current Left and the Left I grew up with have nothing in common now.

I live in Australia where we have universal health cover paid for from taxes and (in brief) most treatments can be had by most people at no cost. We also have (almost) free public education at primary and secondary levels. I don’t understand systems in which a medical emergency can bankrupt a family and quality higher education becomes the province of the rich. There is much to discuss but, given the limitations of this forum, suffice it to say that Australian and US cultures have some very big differences and each must find its own way of promoting the well-being of their individuals and communities. But first and foremost, NO MORE WAR.

          1. Robyn, I get the impression you would be an interesting person to share a conversation.

There is a small but hopefully growing movement here in the US called Just Walk Away (JWA). It is leftists – real leftists not the New Left – who are walking away from the Democratic party. They say they are not leaving the party, the party left them. This is a good sign.
I say the Trumpers are like minded people only from the right. They walked away from the Republican party because the party left them (decades ago, they are just now waking up).

Hear me out: as strange as it may seem I think the Trumpers and the JWAers could find some common ground and create a new viable party for the common folk. Because the reality we all must face is that it is us versus the elite not D v R.

        2. John, thanks for the kind words. I am completely neutral on Trump. But I agree with you about Trump Derangement Syndrome. Those people are utterly insane. It would be funny but people who cannot reason and only rage are actually very dangerous.

But I am judging Trump on war and that is not looking good at all. He has surrounded himself with Warpigs and is heating things up in Syria. How this plays out will either make or break Trump for me.

  5. “Leftists are gathering to punch racist nobodies.” Ultra-leftist scum punch law-abiding patriotic Americans exercising constitutional right.

FIFY. Jeebus, Caitlin. Cut out this sophomoric crap. You don’t get to decide who is a nobody. Are you some kind of high and mighty personage? And calling people you disagree with is the lowest tactic of the left that you revere so.

Stopping war solves the problems of war. Don’t make it the cure for psoriasis.

  6. I am using this Comment opportunity to pass this link to Caitlin. This is an interview of Julian Assange that is important to share.
    https://www.rt.com/news/438968-assange-last-interview-blackout/

  7. A courageous woman to buck the perpetual war and terror on humanity machine. Now this is true resistance to the international ruling clique. We need to multiply this resistance to wherever these war mongering ghouls appear…especially when they appear in the national spotlight; but, most certainly the resistance should be omnipresent on our university campi, where students flash the peace sign on their apparel and tats , but do nothing to resist war.

  8. I can’t watch those paragons of virtue with their pressed suits and ties taking money from the MIC while warmongering. They lie endlessly and their paid agents in the MSM run interference to provide cover. Politicians fall over themselves with their hands out to grab some of the gravy train. It’s a parade of war criminals walking over the blood of millions.

(Just a note on the reCaptcha required to post: it seems like it will never end)

  9. Thanks Caitlin. The critics of Medea here just don’t get it. A couple of them are obvious anti-anti-war voices, possibly Hudson attendees “doing their duty” to counter Medea’s truth telling with some Hudson BS.

  10. Maybe code pink has learned a lesson that everyone should already know. Instead of hysterical screaming and slogan shouting asking simple yet direct questions in a calm way is far, far more effective.

Medea may be a crazy cat lady but she has shown the way.

My only criticism is that she failed to ask the most crucial question, Who benefits? Who benefits from a war with Iran? We all know who but the question needs to asked relentlessly so that others may ponder the answer until they also know it too.

    1. The Elephant.

Not many dare ask – or answer – your question, Inforebelscum…

  11. Until we are prepared to give up our own lives, until we are prepared to throw our physical bodies upon the machinery, and upon the gears and the cogs of the machinery, and bring it to a stop, many innocent people will continue to die! This IS war, war between the people and the psychopathic globalists, and the Australian Government that supports them! This country really needs find some new allies, other than the criminal US and UK scum bags that OUR whoring government has sold OUR Sovereignty to!

  12. Ive watched the vid numerous times too. ‘We don’t want another war in the Middle East’ Medea spoke for people all over the globe. This neighbour to the north has despaired for more than 20 years of a viable and visible american anti-war voice. Just one? Medea can’t be the only Yank with strength of conviction willing to put her tough ass on the line.

  13. Medea has gone on the record advocating a global government. That should be the end of any discussion as to her understanding of history and consequences.

    1. Bruce, thanks for the tip off. So many on the left are correctly against war but they are all for more powerful governments. They do not seem to understand the basic concepts of the nature of governments.

    2. Well, no Bruce. Exactly how is she wrong about how Iraq and Libya played out? Explain please, with footnotes if necessary.

      1. Adrian, I cannot speak for Bruce but I agree with him in that if Medea does not understand that these wars are the wars of the Globalists themselves then yes, she is still clueless.

    3. Here we go again. Attacking the messenger. Never mind the millions of lives people like you have destroyed. If you vote Dem or Rep or enlist, you are an accessory to murder.
If you want peace, stop killing people.

  14. Medea: And how dare you bring up the issue of Yemen? It’s the Saudi bombing that is killing most people in Yemen.

Mercenaries Leading Assault on Yemen Port City Were Trained by IDF in Israel https://israelpalestinenews.org/report-mercenaries-leading-assault-on-yemen-port-city-were-trained-by-idf-in-israel/?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=744fdf5a-b606-4d97-8732-7fdf2dc9af4e

Medea has always been a pitbull on her issues and is worthy of praise for what she does (and criticism for her blind spots like Syria); futile though it may be. I’m surprised though, that an astute observer like you, Caitlin, has confused an act of individual protest with ‘resistance’… it’s not, except in the most personal sense. When the neoliberal, right-wing, Catholic-centric government of Poland attempted to restrict women’s rights to birth control (to which they’ were accustomed to under the old Communist regime) they ‘resisted’ [http://noliesradio.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/poland-abortion-protest-oct3.jpg] and continued resisting until the Polish government capitulated to their demands. Until we stop confusing protest & #assistance with actual ‘resistance’ Until we, in our masses, are willing to put skin in the game (see: ‘Valveturners’) we’ll never be anything more that noisy observers the the events that roll on regardless.

    1. We wrote all that matter in the very end of it!

      SKIN IN THE GAME

And this is the gargantuan problem!

West Modern Slaves have a good existence! Even the “poor” ones!

In the back of their minds they no that RESISTANCE, if successful, leads to CHANGE and when CHANGE occurs LOSES always comes along!

The last great example was the Occupy Wall Street… It didn’t shift a single millimeter what Barack Obama was order to do, and he did it! He gave trillions to the MASTERS and sent the bill to the slaves of the Occupy Wall Street!

SKIN IN THE GAME is not VOICE IN THE GAME!

  16. A non-antiwar left is a moribund left.
More self-described leftists must follow the example of Medea Benjamin.
    Thanks for this post, Caitlin.

  17. Medea is not making a coherent argument – this does not help anything, what a waste. While US actions in Iraq were a foreign policy disaster and senseless loss of life for Iraqis and Americans, Code Pink is clearly – as this video shows – not the vehicle for influencing US foreign policy decisions, either. What the “global community” wants…is not how to run foreign policy, nor is Obama’s appeasement and multi-billion dollar payoff to Iran in support of regional and global terror. Wondering when Medea is going to head to China or Russia to engage in similar protests, or maybe head to Iran to protest for women’s rights and gay rights. She won’t do it – but the Hudson Institute in the US is an easy target for an irrational, nonconstructive outburst that actually won’t change any minds.

    1. It is the United States of America that is the greatest purveyor of terrorism on planet earth, through its 800+ miliatary bases all over the world and its embassies stationed in just about every country on planet earth. Any objective reading of history must come to this conclusion, which is why the history of the USA that is taught to US school children must be myth and fairy tales rather than an accurate description of past reality.

    2. Perhaps Medea won’t be protesting in China or Russia or Iran because she isn’t a citizen of or doesn’t live in those countries. Also perhaps because they are not hell-bent on war around the globe as the US is. If the people of China or Russia or Iran don’t have the same rules or laws as the US, it’s for them to decide and to make changes, not for the US to impose by killing millions and destroying their countries.

    3. ” Medea is not making a coherent argument..” – She was perfectly coherent , she was just making an argument that you don’t want to hear , but it is one that resonates with growing numbers of people in the West. That’s why the video has gone viral. Few people could be as coherent and on point as this while being wrestled to the ground :
      .
” “The world community wants to keep the Iran nuclear deal. Peace with Iran!”
      .
I agree with Caitlin. Code Pink isn’t always right , but here they’re spot-on. Kudos , Medea !

    4. Tandanman, “… Obama’s appeasement and multi-billion dollar payoff to Iran in support of regional and global terror.”

Your “facts” are incorrect. The money was Iran’s. Obuma correctly gave it back to them (it never should have been taken in the first Place!). And obuma was correct in making the Iran nuke deal. There is nothing wrong with the deal except that israel does not like it.

The reality is that israel is the real sponsor of terror in the ME. The zionists want to expand israel (the only ethno-state that cannot ever be criticized because y’know “the chosen”…) but Iran is a bulwark against their war plans.

And any US criticism of Iran about its “abuse” of the Iranian people is made null and void while the US supports Saudi Arabia. Period.

  18. This is like game show tv. Next time “they” wont let any “Medeas” in the audience.

    1. Medea may in fact be the voice of the remnants of the anti-war movement, but the REAL AmeriKKKa are all of the other human beings in that room — in particular, the human being with the blonde hair in the left end of your first screenshot. Notice his facial expression as Medea is being hauled off the stage.
      ..
Notice that the human beings sitting in the “audience” didn’t spring to their feet and jump onto the stage to defend Medea. Did those viewing this event on their HDTVs spring to THEIR feet to call their congressional rep. to demand an end to the US’s perpetual wars? Arre they marching around Washington today demanding an end to the US’s perpetual wars?

      1. Ish, hate to be a grammar nazi but I gotta disagree with you about your using the term “human beings” to describe those in attendance. Warpigs is the proper term.
