In a new article titled “Mueller report PSA: Prepare for disappointment“, Politico cites information provided by defense attorneys and “more than 15 former government officials with investigation experience spanning Watergate to the 2016 election case” to warn everyone who’s been lighting candles at their Saint Mueller altars that their hopes of Trump being removed from office are about to be dashed to the floor.

“While [Mueller is] under no deadline to complete his work, several sources tracking the investigation say the special counsel and his team appear eager to wrap up,” Politico reports.

“The public, they say, shouldn’t expect a comprehensive and presidency-wrecking account of Kremlin meddling and alleged obstruction of justice by Trump — not to mention an explanation of the myriad subplots that have bedeviled lawmakers, journalists and amateur Mueller sleuths,” the report also says, adding that details of the investigation may never even see the light of day.

So that’s it then. An obscene amount of noise and focus, a few indictments and process crime convictions which have nothing to do with Russian collusion, and this three-ring circus of propaganda and delusion is ready to call it a day.

This is by far the clearest indication yet that the Mueller investigation will end with Trump still in office and zero proof of collusion with the Russian government, which has been obvious since the beginning to everyone who isn’t a complete fucking moron. For two years the idiotic, fact-free, xenophobic Russiagate conspiracy theory has been ripping through mainstream American consciousness with shrieking manic hysteria, sucking all oxygen out of the room for legitimate criticisms of the actual awful things that the US president is doing in real life. Those of us who have been courageous and clear-headed enough to stand against the groupthink have been shouted down, censored, slandered and smeared as assets of the Kremlin on a daily basis by unthinking consumers of mass media propaganda, despite our holding the philosophically unassailable position of demanding the normal amount of proof that would be required in a post-Iraq invasion world.

As I predicted long ago, “Mueller isn’t going to find anything in 2017 that these vast, sprawling networks wouldn’t have found in 2016. He’s not going to find anything by ‘following the money’ that couldn’t be found infinitely more efficaciously via Orwellian espionage. The factions within the intelligence community that were working to sabotage the incoming administration last year would have leaked proof of collusion if they’d had it. They did not have it then, and they do not have it now. Mueller will continue finding evidence of corruption throughout his investigation, since corruption is to DC insiders as water is to fish, but he will not find evidence of collusion to win the 2016 election that will lead to Trump’s impeachment. It will not happen.” This has remained as true in 2018 as it did in 2017, and it will remain true forever.

None of the investigations arising from the Russiagate conspiracy theory have turned up a single shred of evidence that Donald Trump colluded with the Russian government to rig the 2016 election, or to do anything else for that matter. All that the shrill, demented screeching about Russia has accomplished is manufacturing support for steadily escalating internet censorship, a massively bloated military budget, a hysterical McCarthyite atmosphere wherein anyone who expresses political dissent is painted as an agent of the Kremlin and any dissenting opinions labeled “Russian talking points”, a complete lack of accountability for the Democratic Party’s brazen election rigging, a total marginalization of real problems and progressive agendas, and an overall diminishment in the intelligence of political discourse. The Russiagaters were wrong, and they have done tremendous damage already.

In a just world, everyone who helped promote this toxic narrative would apologize profusely and spend the rest of their lives being mocked and marginalized. In a world wherein pundits and politicians can sell the public a war which results in the slaughter of a million Iraqis and suffer no consequences of any kind, however, we all know that that isn’t going to happen. Russiagate will end not with a bang, but with a series of carefully crafted diversions. The goalposts will be moved, the news churn will shuffle on, the herd will be guided into supporting the next depraved oligarchic agenda, and almost nobody will have the intellectual honesty and courage to say “Hey! Weren’t these assholes promising us we’ll see Trump dragged off in chains a while back? Whatever happened to that? And why are we all talking about China now?”

But whether they grasp it or not, mainstream liberals have been completely discredited. The mass media outlets which inflicted this obscene psyop upon their audiences deserve to be driven out of business. The establishment which would inflict such intrusive psychological brutalization upon its populace just to advance a few preexisting agendas has proven that it deserves to be opposed on every front and rejected at every turn.

And those of us who have been standing firm and saying this all along deserve to be listened to. We were right. You were wrong. Time to sit down, shut up, stop babbling about Russian bots for ten seconds, and let those who see clearly get a word in edgewise.

  1. The latest is that Russia is responsible for sowing discord about vaccines. It never ends. Articles with absolutely no proof to back up their claims and the majority of Americans drink it by the gallons. Their hatred of the Cheeto clouds common sense.

  2. The obvious question, which is never asked in the MSM is: “Of all the members of Congress who hold dual citizenship, and therefore deserve scrutiny as to dual loyalties [should Congressmen be permitted to hold dual citizenship?!] how many of them are Russian?
    Rachel…where are you?

    1. Well said, my thoughts exactly.

  3. Caitlin, Thanks for not using Disqus for comments.
Disqus is obviously a gold mine for data mining, just like Twitter and Facebook.

    1. Disqus does a lot of monitoring and deleting of controversial posts. It’s a censorship medium. You spend 1/2 hour on a great post and almost immediately it’s usually gone, along with your 1/2 hour of brilliant writing.

  4. “All that the shrill, demented screeching about Russia has accomplished is manufacturing support for steadily escalating internet censorship, a massively bloated military budget, a hysterical McCarthyite atmosphere wherein anyone who expresses political dissent is painted as an agent of the Kremlin and any dissenting opinions labeled “Russian talking points”, a complete lack of accountability for the Democratic Party’s brazen election rigging, a total marginalization of real problems and progressive agendas, and an overall diminishment in the intelligence of political discourse.”

I work in an academic library (as staff, not faculty, although I do have an MLS–long story). I am so disgusted with the way a lot of librarians embraced “fake news” hysteria. I’ve always identified with the anti-censorship streak in the library profession, but I am not seeing much concern over the social media/internet crackdown that is now occurring. In fact, I watched a video presentation a while back in which a librarian talked positively about the groups coming to the rest to help social media sort it all out. (I think the ADL might have been mentioned in particular.) I just don’t hear any academic library buzz about the massive assault on free speech that is occurring online these days. I would think that someone would at least shed a few tears for some of the more left-wing blogs or Facebook/Twitter accounts that are being pulled, even if no librarians can care about the issue on principle.

In all the time I’ve worked at this university, I don’t remember any local library chatter about deception in the media. Most faculty seemed to consider information literacy and media literacy as very separate. But then Trump won, and suddenly there is a big professional concern about deceptive media. And rather than librarians turning their eye to the much more powerful and more dangerous mainstream media, the focus is on marginal, independent sources. The emphasis is not on big media that drives wars of aggression, but on minor players. And of course, the fairy tale about Russia’s magical leveraging of social media has helped shape this focus.

I understand that there is a genuine narrow issue of a special sort of fake news (that has a lot to do with clickbait). And I understand that we are indeed in a very new media landscape, and social media does have a big impact. But turning concern about these issues into a crusade to censor is a very disturbing response on the part of the library profession.

I wish I could find a way to grasp the issue of fake news/censorship that could be presented professionally, but after reading a lot of the professional literature on fake news and media literacy, I’m not finding anything to grasp onto.

A lot of the librarians embracing this issue are probably more intelligent than me, and certainly most of them are more professionally accomplished than I am. But I think they are being short-sighted idiots.

In fact, I tried to engage a faculty member I like on the issue of censorship related to the Ukraine, and then more broadly on U.S. involvement in the coup in the Ukraine. She was willing to accept that I had a different view, but she said she thought the claims about U.S. intervention in the Ukraine were Russian propaganda, and of course Russia was the real aggressor–and that she didn’t trust the Russians. This was all well before the 2016 election. Right, left, or other, what informed person is really surprised to find the U.S. subverting other people’s countries?

    1. When I was a librarian in a public library during the initial years after 9/11, it was quite common for me to share tips on blogs and alternative websites with my co-workers. There seemed to be such a general awareness of the importance of actively seeking out alternative sources.

Did eight years of Obama help kill this off among a certain educated segment of the population? Or maybe public librarians are just less conformist than academic librarians (who do have to jump through an enormous number of hoops to be successful, if they are faculty)? A lot of them sure love their CNN/MSNBC/BBC/NYT.

The people I work with now seem to care so much more about minority-oriented (racial/ethnic/LGBTQ) issues (which I will admit often seem focused on more and more minor alleged injustices), and not very much at all about U.S. aggression around the globe, no matter how many persons of color are its victims.

    2. I took a course in International Legal Research from a librarian-professor earlier this year and was shocked to find that we were required to evaluate our sources from something called the Standard “CRAAP test,” which I assume you must know about. It comes from Cal State Chico and it’s standard college fare. It shows how college students are being trained to think entirely inside the box, because C=”Currency,” R=”Relevance,” A=”Authority,” A=”Accuracy,” and P=”Purpose.”

It’s that first “A” that really is insidious. For a librarian, first of all, all the answers are presumed to be in the library. If there’s nothing in the library, such as something online, the librarian says it isn’t credible. For a site or authority to have credibility, it must be “Authoritative,” in other words, someone in authority must have given it his or her stamp of approval, so here comes the Ministry of Truth right in academia.

So, let’s say you’re researching 911 Truth or HAARP. Where’s your “A” Authoritative source? First of all, you have Wikipedia and Snopes that now derogates 911 Truth and chemtrails as wacko conspiracy theories. Even if it’s someone well-researched such as Elena Freeland, who is not part of the establishment. You can’t write about it without the prof. getting upset that you are actually discussing this when she can’t find it in the library shelf. So you have enforced groupthink. If you quote someone credible but anti-authorarian, you lose points.

One lone dissenter librarian posted this objection, which I think summarizes it perfectly:

      http://kevinseeber.com/blog/wiretaps-and-craap/

“That said, this kind of checklist solution falls so completely short of meeting the needs of our society right now. Why do I think that? Because CRAAP isn’t about critical thinking–it’s about oversimplified binaries. As students go down the list, they put their source into one of two boxes. The information is either “current” or not, “relevant” or not, and on and on until we get to the point of “fact” or not. And while that kind of simplification might help get us through a one-shot, it’s not going to apply in an authentic information seeking situation, where these ideas of “truth,” “fact,” or “reality” are much more nuanced and complicated.”

“For my part, I’ve been spending a lot more time thinking about the concept of ‘authority’ Of all the factors considered within CRAAP, the idea that authority is a binary is especially galling. And with each escalation of Trump’s policies, the reinforcement of that binary becomes more and more dangerous.”

    3. Wow thanks for writing this. I’m an academic who has one colleague in my department who along with me has from day one not believed any of the DNCs Russiagate reality tv show. We literally speak in whispers or message each other on Slack to avoid being censured for not agreeing with the fake progressives we work with. Hillary should have won. Trump is a monster or a clown, an embarrassment and forget broaching what is meant by fake news or media sites being purged or demonetized. They would never watch Jimmy Dore or Tim Black bc their programs not corporate owned. It’s a shame your colleagues are similar. I would argue however that these people regardless of their degrees and accomplishments just ain’t that smart bc they lack curiosity about the world and the possibility that alternate points of view that challenge their myopic thinking can be legitimate. The bubble they live in is thick and comforting and thus must mean they re on the right side of history. Fortunately I’ve been able to use the classroom to discuss what is meant by fake news. The students have a much better grasp bc most have not been weaned on cable and have been exposed to an abundance of views from YouTube to Twitter so they don’t have that if Maddow said it it must be true.

Have you heard about the Wikipedia wars going on where lunatic democrats are revising pages to show a very strong anti bias toward Russia ? It’s very disturbing

      1. No, but after what I saw on Wikipedia, Snopes, “Rational” Wiki, and other “debunking” sites, including one or two on YouTube, it wouldn’t surprise me at all. The shocker really was Wikipedia, “debunking” something any reasonable person would be forced to concede was overwhelming evidence by now. I always trusted Wikipedia for years now for academic and intellectual honesty, so if they can even twist Wiki they can manufacture any evidence as easily as Winston Smith altered photos in the Ministry of Truth.

In a capitalist society, everything is for sale. The truth is commodified and sold to the highest bidder. What’s even more disturbing is reading required casebooks on Counterterrorism, which requires you to accept the fictional fantasy official conspiracy theory about 911 at every case and Supreme Court foundation for reasoning. It’s almost like suddenly finding yourself trapped in a lunatic asylum with no way out or in the Red Queen’s court with Alice playing croquet with geese.

  5. How far down the rabbit hole we have gone in my lifetime since JFK spoke these eloquent words of warning in 1961.
    https://youtu.be/zdMbmdFOvTs

  6. I am afraid my first reaction to Russiagate was irreverence worthy of Barnum.
All my life I have been subjected to nonsense about the dire operations of ‘those Russians’ and ‘communists’ ( Bolsheviks were/are terrorists, not communists ) , but ‘throwing an election’ where the voting machines can be undetectably altered – which requires physical access – was a ‘Bridge Too Far’ for recycling the forever meme to have anything but a snort of derision as to assessing the possibilities of faraway schemers to outdo the election theft operations of the domestic contingent.
    https://www.wired.com/2016/08/americas-voting-machines-arent-ready-election/

    1. They can’t win elections without stealing them anymore, they’re so unpopular. So, where’s the democracy in that?

  7. Russiagaters will just claim that Russia did it but got away with it. There is no solution for stupid.

    1. Diehards never quit, never admit error. 50 years from now they will still be talking about Russians meddling in our election. Rachel Madcow will be saying Russians are running our government.

  8. Gloating time is a-comin’.

  9. About a decade ago I read an MSM opinion article (don’t remember who wrote it or where it was published) and the author wrote a thorough and self-critical apology for his role in the messaging that pushed for wat in Iraq. I actually cried while reading it.

After years of being called a traitor, idiot, terrorist-sympathizer, pinko-commie, etc, etc, etc, and watching all the carnage unfold both in the ME and the psychological/economic/political fallout here in the US it was so nice to read one of those who had condemned us anti-war people apologize and tell us we were right all along.

Then, I got mad because that article was such an anomaly and more like it never came. All the others who were so wrong continued being wrong and never acknowledged it. All those who were right remained in the shadows or were pushed even further to the fringes.

I hope one day there is an awakening and Caitlyn is rewarded with the job of senior editor of The NY Times where she can fire the mob of propagandists and replace them with the likes of Taibbi, Dore, Abby Martin, Hedges and others who actually get things right.

    1. “fire the mob of propagandists ” At the Grey Lady ? LOL
Not happening – job security requires they understand their function….and it is bullshit and distraction. If anyone really cared about the Iraq fraud which required Cheney’s office outing CIA nuclear threat desk chief Valerie Plame as Wilson, wife of the comedy operation ambassador’s mission to Nigeria to see if Iraq was trying to buy yellowcake ( which littered Iraq and the refining of it into fertilizer was the basis for the ‘aluminum tubes’ nonsense ) – blowing the Brewster Jennings covert operation,- the contents of the website ‘Leading to War’ would be taught in schools. Ditto the preplanning by the State Department for the ‘war’ in Iraq – which I stumbled across because I wondered why Don Rumsfeld ( who had a ton of Monsanto shares ) had taken pains to secure the 1999 war game “Post-Saddam Iraq : Desert Crossing” under cover of classification as a secret document. Coverup included Bremer’s 100 Orders never being covered in the world press – and even the essay turned video from the Panelist “The Real Winner in Iraq was Monsanto” turned into unobtainium. Things were so crazy that the YouTube video link “The World According to Monsanto” was redirected to the Monsanto homepage.
The Air Force in particular is associated with control of the press and disinformation ops – which is why the UFO stories never mentioned that the ‘horizontal meteors’ coming from the USSR were SAC sorties. Historically the roots of the “John Bull” story are instructive about military perversion of the press – and they predate ‘1984’ by 200 years.

  10. Russiagaters were wrong but their goal is to control major narratives in the heads of Americans. Their goal is to drive forward their warmongering agenda, to continue to not only plow and plunder the rest of the world but to also plow and plunder the American people. They got what they want: the US military budget is significantly increased, the US is preparing for war in Europe, China is being threatened, Iran is threatened.

The moronic US elites are marching the people into the jaws of catastrophe.

  11. Every lawyers dream !! “Have a fool for a client with deep pockets!”

What is paramount to understand is that Mueller is a D.C. lawyer.
He Is likely taking *at least* a million a month out of the scam, and will lie and make up any possible excuse to keep it going as long as possible to keep the graft going.
Notice a few months ago he laid off some of the assistant conspirators. Guess where their salaries went?

  12. I’d add to your list of consequences from Russia-gate hysteria, that many of us of the true “resistance”, those resisting the mass madness, have lost friends – lots of them. I don’t expect to hear from them, making amends for their transgressions, and I don’t expect I will be asking them for it. They are gone. Sad.

    1. So true. I don’t think that I have lost any friends, but that’s because I learned to keep my mouth shut whenever the subject of Russia and Putin came up.

    2. Friends? Hell I lost a job over it.

      1. By which I mean I was facebook friends with my boss at the time who is as “mainstream liberal” as they come was a college professor and he actually hung a sign in the work place that said “this is a hate free zone”, but my feelings opinsions about the election outomce and the russia stuff in the wake of the 2016 election sure seemed to illicit plenty of hate as I was sharing all kinds of articles from Caitlin and others, and there were certain days when I walked into work and I could just feel the peevish energy of antipathy emanating from him and almost see it as like visiible rays extending out from him. Of course the official reasons why I was pushed out of that job were somethign else entirely, but i will never again make th emistake of assuming it is okay to freely state my opinions and will surely be more careful now in the future i probably don’t have.

        1. Good article though.

        2. See an attorney immediately. Good grounds for wrongful termination lawsuit. Need to clear your name in case he’s defaming you in references.

Just make sure the attorney isn’t hysterical over Russia, too.

          1. and I am not — repeat — not! giving you legal advice. This is only my layman’s opinion. Do not rely on it. You need to seek qualified — and licensed — legal assistance to judge whether your case has merit or not. Caveat over.

    3. I generally don’t discuss politics, but our local “peace and justice” group showed me exactly where they stand when they sent me a link to a petition supporting Mueller. I told the emailer that the day I support FBI scum is the same day I suck on a tailpipe, and she got all hysterical about the president thinking “he’s above the law.” I said all presidents think they’re above the law. So the one good thing to come out of this is that you know where people stand and how easily they are manipulated.

  13. Time to ignore the mainstream media. They don’t deserve the attention.

    Who?

    1. I’ve been running a demonstrator of ‘who’ for years. Likely the easiest way to go is to sign up for Netvibes and get suggestions from the community
( http://www.netvibes.com/opit#General is one of mine ) or do some tagfile sharing at Diigo – But there are lots of possibilities. My years-long compilation of RSS syndication results is at opitslinkfest ( original Blogger file ) and oldephartte.blogspot.com

  14. “But whether they grasp it or not, mainstream liberals have been completely discredited. ❄️
The loss of basic integrity and decent self reflection coupled with a viral outbreak of adolescent narcissism is almost hard to grasp. The overwhelming sense of Entitlement and imbedded superiority demonstrated by segments of our populace is generationally foreboding.
    It can get much worse.

  15. Will the Democrats ban Russian salad dressing from the Capital, and say Israel is rigging our politicians/elections ? BDS,,, Free Assange

Looks like Trump made a deal with Rosenstein (Mueller’s boss) to influence the midterm elections. Also looks like the war mongers are focusing on Saudi Arabia and abandoning the Iran-War idea, so maybe a deal is in the works with Iran. Saudi Arabia is a so-much-more palatable enemy – heads chopped off, madrasas spewing hate, 9/11,…Trump popularity –>, authoritarianism, war danger…but maybe, just maybe 9/11 truth and Deep State demise.

  17. I knew we had it right. Nothing more needs to be said.

  18. So, who they gonna blame for Queen Hillary losing the election to Trump now? Somebody must have interfered with the election. If not Russia, then who? Somebody’s got to take the fall. I know!

The voters. That’s it! The voters interfered with the election. It’s all the voters’ fault. The politicians didn’t select the voters well enough. Let’s not make that mistake again.

    1. But let’s give credit where credit is due! Getting Trump elected by meddling wasn’t easy for the voters. They had to have help.

They got it, too, from the Democratic Party establishment, who selected the worst godawfulest candidate they could find anywhere in the world. Let’s not forget. That was the only way the voters could meddle in the election to help get someone as bad as Trump elected. That’s why we got Trump.

      1. But wait! There’s more!

Assange ! He did it! Assange was the meddler-in-chief! He told on Hillary and the Democrats. That was very naughty. Let’s blame him as well. And all those other misbehaving journalists. That’s where this will go next.

  19. drip, drip, drip the propaganda faucet will finally be turned off………………The only thing that might have made it worthwhile would be if Mueller indicted ALL the real propagators of the Russian hoax; Media, Hilary/Obama Administration, Democrats, FBI, DOJ, Steele et al.
“What a wonderful world it would be”

  20. Just came to rant about Google’s endless Assanging of your blog posts in my email folders.
They use the interesting tactic of INCONSISTENTLY moving your articles from spam to trash and back again
It’s a small issue in the high seas of political tsunamis but it’s got my DNA boiling . I am here because of Syria and Assange but even if i don’t always agree with you or if you suddenly and completely went round the twist, i am going to root around till i find your posts…and READ THEM….can ya hear me GOOGLE…i am going to READ her posts!!!! If she send them in Esperanto, Morse Code or Icelandic…even if i don’t like them…i am GOING to READ HER POSTS!!! (PS. as an aside….Good article!)

  21. Thank you Caitlin Johnstone.
It is indeed refreshing and a not a little re-assuring to realize that there are still people in the USA who know how to utilize their biggest Asset, located between their Ears and are not afraid to let their Voice be heard loud and clear, even in Australia.(Which is slowly heading in a similar Direction) Here is, whatever America is doing, regarded as a blueprint, to be followed mindlessly.

During the previous presidential election it seemed that the A.I.P.A.C. oligarchy became certain that they could fool enough people enough of the time that mrs. clinton became the candidate of inevitability.
let’s hope that at least one more colossal evidence free con job will go up in flames .

  25. As Russiagate dies with a whimper, propaganda gears shift to China, not to Saudi Arabia where collusion between generations of presidents (including the current one) continues to be where the real treason is….

    1. The real danger is the blowback of Saudi medieval butchery infecting our domestic affairs, wagging-dog style, with Bolton et al in charge here.

  26. I predict this won’t stop Rachel Maddow for one breathless moment. Facts are of no mere importance in such cases.

    1. And maybe – I hope – I will stop hearing lunatic Democratic pundits raving about it on NPR! But I’m not counting on it.

    2. Russiagate has been Maddow’s meal ticket, and she won’t relinquish it without a massive amount of whining about how Mueller must have caved in to pressure from _______ (fill in the blank). Nevertheless, she will continue to use Russia as an all-purpose punching bag. Her fans are addicted to it.
