Expect Increased Smearing Of Progressives As Russian Assets

After WikiLeaks documents provided irrefutable evidence that the Democratic National Committee had violated its charter by rigging its primary for Hillary Clinton against Bernie Sanders, what should have happened is this:

  • The DNC apologizing profusely to the public for violating the promises it had made to the electorate.
  • Massive, sweeping changes to bring transparency and public accountability to the DNC’s inner workings, including a complete overhaul of staff and leadership.
  • If at all possible, a complete do-over of the primary vote.
  • A dedication to attacking Trump’s right-wing policies from the left, showing the public that a progressive approach works better than a conservative one.

If this had happened Americans would not only be living in a vastly saner political landscape, but Trump probably would not have won in 2016. If the Democratic establishment had shown clearly and unequivocally that it was remorseful for its malfeasance and made an immediate overhaul that people could see for themselves, they wouldn’t have alienated nearly as many voters.

Instead, what happened was the DNC changing absolutely nothing, Nanci Pelosi saying she doesn’t see anything wrong with primary rigging, and the Democratic Party shrieking about Russia for more than two years.

Watching the establishment Russia narrative take hold of public consciousness was like watching a zombie outbreak. First it infected the slow ones, the virulent Clintonites who never had any natural defense against CIA/CNN narratives, which was disturbing and distressing but not at all surprising. Then, bit-by-bit, the Russia hysteria began to creep leftward. Progressives I’d been fighting alongside in 2016 began succumbing to the Russiagate mind virus in 2017, folding under peer pressure and aggressive mass media manipulation. Some of them held strong for a few months, then when one of the hollow but oh-so-confident-sounding “bombshell” Russiagate reports struck them in the right way at the right time they made public social media posts saying they were now convinced.

I watched them drop like flies. To this very day I still see Russia hysteria on my social media feeds from progressive Berniecrats I’d followed early on who transformed into McCarthyite cold war hawks at some point in the interim. When I post something skeptical of the establishment Russia narrative on Twitter I see accounts with red roses next to their name, a sign of support for the Democratic Socialists of America, arguing with me and accusing me of sympathizing with Trump and Putin.

Writers like Max Blumenthal and Glenn Greenwald have been warning since the outbreak of this pernicious mass manipulation that it would be used to target the left, but their warnings went unheeded as more and more progressive minds were funneled into the belief that the best way to fight Trump was to get behind the Russia hysteria bandwagon and push with all your might. And now, even as America’s 2020 presidential race is barely in its infancy, we are already beginning to see Russiagate used to smear anyone to the left of Hillary Clinton as Russian dupes.

I’d like to draw attention to a few recent social media posts which have gained a lot of traction in the last few days, not for the impact those posts have but for what they portend for the rest of the 2020 race. The first is from the Twitter account for the Russiagate documentary Active Measures, and it received thousands of shares:

“Bernie was the one Democrat not to vote to keep sanctions on Deripaska (he also voted against Russia sanctions and Magnitsky),” the post reads. “@SenSanders won’t stand up to billionaires in Russia and he wants you to to believe he’ll stand up to them in America. #fraud”

The second comes from professional linguist and engineer John Rehling, who has over 50 thousand Twitter followers, and it received hundreds of shares:

“Kamala Harris is immediately the front runner for the Democratic nomination, and if Russia is predictable, they will create armies of bots attacking her from the *left*,”  reads Rehling’s (now deleted) tweet. “If you’re left of Kamala Harris, I’m sure you are honestly, but you’ll be doing Putin’s work, like it or not.”

The third comes from Shareblue manipulator Caroline Orr, just one of many similar posts that she has made in recent days. Orr has also launched a GoFundMe to investigate Tulsi Gabbard’s imaginary Putin-Assad ties/score a free vacation to Hawaii, and is also circulating the baseless rumor that “Russian-linked accounts” are pushing for a Bernie-Tulsi 2020 ticket. Note the URL Orr highlighted in the tweet below featuring her allegation that Gabbard is “pro-Putin” and “pro-Assad”.

In each case, posts punching left with accusations of Kremlin servitude gained traction with their followers, which means there is already an audience for this schtick. And, again, the presidential race has barely even begun. Things are likely to get a whole lot uglier between now and November 2020.

This is your life for the next two years, progressives. This is what those of you who drank the Russiagate Kool-Aid have helped buy for what passes for America’s political left today. You can expect such accusations to get far more common and far more aggressive as this thing drags on. The left can either play along with this and let centrist cold war rhetoric suck all the oxygen out of the room for the advancement of progressive policies, or they can fight back against this moronic facilitation of longstanding intelligence community agendas.

This use of Russiagate to herd the political left toward supporting America’s “center” (so-called only because it is the mainstream view, which in turn is only due to plutocratic narrative control) will actively move things further into corporatist dystopia. Supporting a “moderate” Democratic Party while the Republican Party always pushes as far to the right as it possibly can is guaranteeing a continuous overall movement to the right, which is why the gains made by the left in the early 20th century are almost gone now. If you have one person half-pulling westward on one end of a rope and another person tugging eastward with all their might, they’re going to move steadily east.

The slow, incremental changes advocated by the political “center” are code for no change whatsoever; they’re just buying time so that their corporate sponsors, who themselves never slow down, can finish shoring up control before the public forces them to scale back. If progressives don’t start attacking this “Move right or you’re a Russian agent” schtick directly and with full force, it will snuff them out completely.

  • What! you voted for Trump?

    Thank God we are divorced.

  • I wonder how many of the “followers” you mention are real people.
Being supported by this kind of tweet is a mark of phoney radicalism.
Time to give up on the Democrats.

  • The smearing is to be expected. To me, even,, since three of my grandparents were Russian immigrants in the years around 1900. Proud of my heritage – taught me what honest work consists of, as well as the value of keeping my word once given.

  • That does it. Until the Democrats manage to grow a pair and cast the Trostkyite world-dominationist Neocon monkey off their back–or set up a viable alternative party for the disaffected majority–not only will I vote Republican, I’ll go out and campaign for the more reasonable among the Republicans. What a poisonous cesspool the party I used to vote for has become!

    • You don’t like the Democrats behaving like Republicans so your going to vote Republican.

      • It depends a great deal on the particular Republican, but most Republicans are no worse than the democrats. Lindsey Graham’s as bad as the Democrats on foreign policy. I would not vote for him. Trump, though he leaves a lot to be desired, is to the left of the Democrats on a few critical issues. I’ll support him again if the Democrats cannot put someone better forward.

  • Also – you say that the drinking water in Flint was contaminated with lead? Oh really? Why don’t we ever hear you opine on the quality of the drinking water in Petrozavodsk, you hypocrite? (Glenn Greenwald gets this a lot.)

  • ‘If you’re left of Kamala Harris, I’m sure you are honestly, but you’ll be doing Putin’s work, like it or not.’

MLK Jr day is all fine and good, but you know who else besides MLK was saying blacks were oppressed in the US in the 50s and 60s? The Soviets were! That was a standard Russian talking point. MLK may have been honest in his views, but the fact remains that, by attacking the US status quo, he was sowing discord in the US and doing Khrushchev’s and Brezhnev’s work, like it or not. He also used terms common in Kremlin propaganda such as ‘oppression’, ‘peace’, ‘justice’, ‘struggle’, ‘inequality’, ‘exploitation’ and ‘imperialism’. He really should have stopped creating disunity in the camp of well-meaning liberals and in the land of freedom in general with his extreme demands.

You say the US isn’t quite perfect? You know who else doesn’t think the US is quite perfect? Putin! You don’t want all multicellular life in the universe to be annihilated? You know who else doesn’t want that? Putin! You say 2 X 3 = 6? You know who else says that? Putin!

In sum, I agree that this moronic fallacy, which has now become ubiquitous as a dishonest and manipulative rhetorical trick, should not be tolerated in public discourse at all, and its profound idiocy should always be pointed out categorically as soon as somebody uses it.

    • The way I see it, Putin is doing _my_ work. I don’t know how that happened, but that’s what they tell me.

      • Perhaps what we need is a “vote for Putin” campaign. The last time, we were assured that a vote for either Trump or Jill Stein was a vote for Putin. That was nice, because people on both the right and left could vote for a decent leader who cares about his citizens.

  • One who is word challenged, like myself, might simply exclaim: “That’s McCarthyism!”
Then one might still have to explain that that’s a historical reference to some old, dead dude who would harm people or groups by associating the with something “bad” (a “bad” idea) – when really it was not clear that they were in fact associated with said bad thing nor was it clear that thing was bad.
Then might have to further explain that what McCarthy was doing was bad.
Then might have to explain that one should not do bad things – harming people unfairly.
But still you would get a blank stare.

Thing is, it’s a mud-wrestling match. In such a circumstance bad is good.
They perform this event for our entertainment – it’s democracy in action.

To help us to understand the process, they’ve given us some simple guidelines – choose left or right.
Don’t worry about what those things mean, just choose a side and root for your side.
Some countries have more than two side but for the U.S.ofA. we have reduced it to two choices (please don’t ask me to explain why).
The persons on each side will wear something so that you will know which side they are on – we will flag them with colored ribbons.
Now be a good patriot and pick your color.

  • Thank you for this. I’m tired of the new cold war. I wish democrats would wake up. I would hate to vote for the Donald again but as least he’s not going along with this crap. I was purged from the rigged Democratic primary rolls in NY and could not vote for Bernie.

  • to Robin. Great comment. i love Caitlin’s posts. It would be nice to know what she and you think about Richard D Wolff marxist work. RD Wolf advocating for economic system change. From capitalism to primary co-op economy. No corporate boards and no ridiculous inequality. Once that achieved there will be no oligarchy to control status quo with all the current problems. And each problem will stop being an uphill battle. That has nothing to do with democrats or republicans, or our three branches of government or corporate media, all of whom work for oligarchs. We have to stop fight for couple of bones here and there, without system change oligarchs will take those bones back like they did before. – Economic Update: The Great American Purge. Steve Bannon work hard to unite ultra right fascists around the world and we should unite too.
Richard D Wolff & Nome Chomsky & Yanis Varoufakis & Caitlin Johnstone, Julian Assange, Edward Snowden, William Edward Binney for our leaders. Forget the presidency it is just a mascots for our oligarchy. Each day for those guys in the list and Noam Chomsky, especially has to be cherished. BTW, Julian Assange is in mortal danger now (his mother ref). We have to thank for that US and Freaking UK governments.

  • I vote we piss off the US and UK influence of our own Nation. I am sick of these criminal scum bags running my daily bloody life, who is the prick that gave our Sovereignty away? I would love to hang the bastard up a flag pole and watch him/her rot, slowly!
Australia is now a TARGET for destruction when war breaks out with China or Russia, and the reality is these fucking retards, including our own cock sucking Liberal and Labor Governments, have encouraged them to do so. What stupid fucking moron would accept their country as a target, on behalf of a group of Psychopaths lust for greedy and worldly powers? The Australian cock sucking Defense Department, THAT’S WHO THE MORON ARE!

    • Stephan, your “cock sucking” epithets sound very homophobic. Repent you hateful Sinner!

    • Before we fix US forget any ¨Sovereignty away¨. It is just a joke. US have military budget about $1T with all the secret and uncounted spending (official from DOD – President Donald J. Trump sent Congress a proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 budget request of $716 billion for national security, $686 billion of which is for the Department of Defense). They have a history of destroying any government that step out of line in Americas or not. That is enough to return Europe in line if they step out of order. It looks like they almost lost already Neo liberal democracy war empire narrative and they planing the future by supporting dictators and ultra right fascists candidates around the world. Stive Bannon is trying to create an ultra right (fashists) narative around the world (his interiew in Oxford Union).

  • There is something really creepy with the disconnect between any reality and all of this hysterical spin. Like they are just trying to play out the clock. The house of state is on fire, but no one is trying to put it out, just looting with both hands. So many politicians look like they have someone with their control file right behind them.
Is the corruption revealed by Wikileaks going to bring any investigations, indictments, prosecutions? Or are we waiting for a big event to trigger martial law, and a great sweeping under the rug?
At this point, so much of substance has been hidden from the public, that we cannot know what is happening. I agree with Caitlin, that we have to write our own narratives, and form our own vision of the future, and try to make it happen. There is so much going on that we won’t know for decades.
The propagandists are freaking because the same old formulas aren’t working.

    • “There is so much going on that we won’t know for decades.
The propagandists are freaking because the same old formulas aren’t working.”
      ..
With just a bit of effort you can know TODAY “what is going on” and, even more importantly, IMO, the REAL history of the US since the late 1800s. What you will wait a lot more than “decades” for (more like “an eternity”) is to be spoon-fed that REAL history by the Elite’s schools and MSM.
      ..
Open your eyes. Using the “same old forumulas” that brought Mr. Goebbels wild success, “the propagandists” of today that are appearing 24/7 on the MSM have been wildly successful at getting the masses to march in the streets for just about any “cause” OTHER than protesting unjust, unnecessary, illegal wars, regime-changes and oppression of the peoples of other nations so that the transnational Elite can amass even more wealth and power.
      ..
For example, remember that in 2013, just a few short years ago, the UK govt. tried to get the approval of parliament to attack Syria. The parliament voted against it. O’bomb’em wanted desperately to attack Syria but with the UK situation in mind, decided to let the Congress decide. On December 11, 2014 the senate foreign relations committee passed the authorization of use of military force (AUMF) against ISIL (practically speaking, an organization created by the US) by a vote of 10 to 8. Eight against, but war forever.
      ..
In 2018 a new AUMF was passed. The summary from the AUMF:
      ..
      ======
“This joint resolution authorizes the President to use all necessary and appropriate force against the Taliban, al Qaeda, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, Al Shabaab, Al Qaeda in Syria (including Al Nusrah Front), the Haqqani Network, Al Qaeda in the Islamic Mahgreb, and other non-state associated forces designated by the President. The joint resolution provides for related congressional review and oversight.

The Authorization for Use of Military Force (P.L. 107-40) and the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002 (P.L. 107-243) are repealed.
      Congress.gov”
      =====
      ..
There is no “sunset clause” in the AUMF 2018. There is a review every four years, when Congress has 60 days to either repeal or modify the “resolution”. If Congress does nothing, the authorization stays in place. This means war forever, unless the Congress of MIC slaves stops it. It won’t.
      ..
The Elite are definitely getting desperate over their wealth-accumulation system’s failure to generate enough profit for their trillions of historically-accumulated investments, but do you still think that the propagandists are getting desperate when the bewildered herd of voters are cheering the FBI, CIA, NSA, DoJ and honoring US military and mercenary forces that are murdering and extorting innocent people around the world?

  • This anti Russia hysteria will only help Trump win the 2020 election. This McCarthyism will keep the progressive candidates out of the running and provide cover for the Democrats to rig the primaries again. (It will also cover up Israel’s influence on the American political scene but that’s just a bonus.

  • Well, they’ve tried smearing progressives as socialists and communists before … might as well add a little red to their herrings … we’ll still win though … https://www.brookings.edu/blog/fixgov/2018/08/09/progressives-versus-the-establishment-an-updated-score/

    • Michael, if progressives are not socialists/communists then what exactly is the difference between progressivism and socialism/communism? What separates them?

      • InfoRebelScum: The dichotomy between progressivism, and collectivism, i.e. socialism/communism is a false one as is the dichotomy between, in the U.S., the Dismal Dollar Dimwitocratic Party, and the Republiconartist Party supposedly representing “liberalism vs. conservatism.”

It is more productive to frame the debate in terms of human nature. Human beings have a strong individual aspect of their nature, and a more cooperative, and collective aspect as well, which like individualism is a double-edged sword.

Individualism, which, while it can be very healthy, tends to devolve to radical self-centeredness, greed, and criminal behavior. Capitalism is the relatively recent politicoeconomic dogma that caters to radical individualism; and, Ayn Rand, a member of a tribe proclaiming themselves to be God’s chosen people, was a nut job who dressed this up in pseudo philosophy of radical, brutal self-centeredness. Adam Smith’s propaganda of the Wealth of Nations, and his other writings are slightly more insightful, and rational, but dogma nonetheless. However, both Rand, and Smith’s works contain elements of truth.

I’ve never read anything by Rand, or seen her interviewed about her thoughts about brutal child labor, oppression of women, and minorities, manipulations of the stock, and other markets by wealthy white, upper class plutocrats, and rampant environmental pollution under radical, predatory capitalism in America up until at least the 1940’s. There was simply a pause in radical predatory capitalism from the end of WWII, to the early 1970’s due to radical civic activism of Suffragettes, the labor movement, the Civil Rights movement, and anti-war movement. JFK, RFK, MLK, and members of Black Panthers were all executed by the U.S. federal government for threatening the status quo, after it had already been radically upset by these movements enough, in the eyes of the wealthy, power hungry plutocracy. Capitalism has devolved to be more predatory since the 1970’s.

Human beings, as social primates, also have a very strong collective or cooperative aspect of their nature. The relatively recent politicoeconomic dogma that caters to this aspect of human nature is collectivism, and Karl Marx, and Leon Trotsky, also members of a tribe self-proclaimed to be God’s chosen people, and Lenin, who was technically not a member of the self-proclaimed God’s chosen people tribe because his mother’s mother was not a member, only his mother’s father was, created politicoeconomic dogmas of collectivism; and that is communism, socialism, and fascism which are all collectivist in nature, and closely merge government, and economic power in one form or another for power, and control. Mao, a sexual deviant, was also a proponent of collectivism as a means of power, and control for the elite. The works of Marx, Lenin, Trotsky, and Mao also contain some elements of truth, among bizarre propaganda.

The trend today is movement away from brutal plutocracy which is about who holds power, particularly economic, military, political power, and narrative (i.e. media) power, whether its the capitalist/fascist ruling class, as it is in the west, or the socialist/communist ruling class as it has been in the east. This movement is taking place on a small scale all over the globe, and it’s taking form as cooperatively owned farms, non-government currencies as a means of exchange, regional, non-governmental, and non-capitalist corporate cooperation, and other forms. Behind the scenes the capitalists, fascists, communists, and socialists elite have always cooperated. One example is Prescott Bush, and his fascist friends helping to finance Hitler. Another is the patriarch of the Koch sucker brothers family helping Stalin while making his fortune in Russia in the energy sector. Behind most wealthy plutocrats is criminality, and sucking from the public teat.

        • Dennis, you did not answer my question, What is the difference between communism/socialism and progressivism? On what basic principles do they diverge? What makes one claim to be a progressive but not a socialist/communist?

IOW, what is the definition of far-left?

      • Well said, Dennis!
        ..
Here’s an important question. How/WHERE do the true antiwar/anti-imperialism and anti-whatever-you-want-to-call-the-present-system individuals “get together” and ORGANIZE?! It certainly can’t be anywhere near either the Rs or the Ds.

        • Ish, the question isn’t so much what such people are “anti” about but rather what they are “pro” for. And that is where the road ends for the “revolution”.

  • History shows that the Demonrat Party has always been the War Party.
History shows that the Demonrat Party has always been the Racist Party.
Now the Demonrat Party has become the Neocon Party.
    Congrats Demonrats! That’s what I call Progress!-ive
    .
“Under democracy one party always devotes its chief energies to trying to prove that the other party is unfit to rule – and both commonly succeed, and are right.” – H. L. Mencken

  • I am f-ing fatigued of hearing how Bernie was shafted during the last election. Bernie willingly, spinelessly stepped away from the campaign, endorsed killary and gentilely accepted a $650,000 lakefront home from the dems in exchange for never , ever uttering an unkind word on the rigged, pre-planned winner-takes-all Mafia Clinton nominee. That Sanders can even hint at running in 2020 is pathetic, frightening, sickening. GO TULSI.

  • “Progressives”, Democrats, Republicans?
    Your ideology versus their ideology?

Such adolescent gamemanship will never stop “the overall movement to the right”.
And really what is so terrible about movements to the Right?
If you can’t offer a serious critique and real plausible alternatives then a “MAGA” will always outflank a faux progressive ideology.

    Try to formulate such.

  • “If progressives don’t start attacking this ‘Move right or you’re a Russian agent’ schtick directly and with full force, it will snuff them out completely.”
    ..
Caitlin, what you wrote above is absolutely correct, but just exactly HOW does one “attack this … directly and with full force….”? How would a peacenik candidate for president do that “directly and with full force”?
    ..
On your recent “Five reasons” you’re excieted about a Gabbard candidacy article, I commented the following, and I still think that it is imperative that she, or any other, peacenik candiate do exactly the same.
    ===========
“If I were Gabbard I’d first state right off the bat that I want to pull US troops, special forces and, most importantly, mercenaries out of Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria, dismantle NATO, close Gitmo (for real, this time), close 90% of US military bases around the world, and would not continue the US’s Global War OF Terror. Doing this right off the bat rather than later in the campaign will FORCE public debate about her radical proposal to change US foreign policy.
    ..
Second, also right off the bat I’d state that I intended to MAINTAIN the War (“defense”) budget in order to keep present employees of the MIC employed, keep the present contract system, but change the present DoD contracts to produce ifrastructure and other objects for a peace-based economy. In other words, these war corporations and their millions of employees and their spin-offs would in the future be creating bullet trains rather than bullets (ploughshares rather than swords), etc. Therefore, those human beings presently employed by the MIC would not fear that by voting for Gabbard they’d be voting for their own unemployment.
    ..
Again, Gabbard is ALREADY being subjected to a storm of MSM abuse which will only get much worse right up to election day. And, again, I believe that Gabbard’s one and only hope for success as an anti-war candidate is to get the above said right off the bat in order to have as long a public debate about war versus peace as possible. Even if she is not elected, she will have been successful at getting these issues “on the floor” for public debate.”
    ========
If I were a candidate, I would add what would likely kill my chances of winning anything. I’d criticize in excruciating detail just about everything about the US’s slave history right up to the passage of the Civil Rights Act and beyond to today. I’d excoriate previous adminstrations for not fulfilling Bush the FIrst’s promise to not expand NATO one inch eastward; for meddling in Russia’s elections; for overthrowing regimes and meddling in practically countless other elections around the world; for pulling out of the ABM and now the INF treaties; for attacking Afghanstan, Iraq, Libya, Somalia and Yemen. I’d say that I thought that Russia did not hack the DNC and neither did they poison the Skripals. I’d say that the US conducted a coup in Ukraine and that’s why Russia allowed the Crimean people to make a choice on their future, and to support the Russian-speaking people in the easter part of Ukraine. I’d accuse the FBI, the DoJ and the FBI of lying and committing acts of treason against the interest of the American people by attempting to sabotage of any effort to improve relations with Russia, China and Iran. How much support do you think that talk like that is going to engender? Not much. Again, the people of the US can not handle the truth about how their government behaves domestically and around the world supposedly on their behalf. A population of a nuclear superpower that is incapable of facing reality is an extremely dangerous population.
    ..
Put youself in Mr. Putin’s shoes. How would you respond to the US’s (and Israel’s) incessant and increasingly irresponsible provocations and rhetoric that look increasingly like the lead-up to a nuclear first strike? Even further, what if it looks like a real Russia-hater is about to win the presidency in 2020?

  • Both US political parties get their foreign policy marching orders from the Council of Foreign Relations just like the Brits get their marching orders from Chatham House . Both are offshoots of the Roundtable councils started by Cecil Rhodes and other Anglo-Zionist.

  • Nice job, DismalDollarites, you just made a second term for Hair Hitler a real possibility.

  • Gary Webb’s Dark Alliance expose showed how the CIA introduced crack cocaine into U.S. Black communities. The whole Drug War/Mass incarceration of people of color is just business to the Anglo-Zionist imperialist.

  • “Harris has spent her career locking up Black and brown people. She should not be allowed to shake hands, kiss babies or walk into black churches without being taken to task… The movement against mass incarceration and police killings is the human rights movement of our time.No one should be permitted to run for president with an expectation of black support if like Harris they played a role in worsening this ongoing humanitarian crisis.

As attorney general Harris opposed legislation that would have required her office to investigate police shootings. When California was ordered to reduce prison overcrowding she argued against it. She said, accurately, that a low wage work force would go free. But that is the reason to diminish the carceral state, not an argument to continue it. She always sided with law enforcement, which means she acted against the interests of black people. She still does this in her memoir, These Truths We Hold: An American Journey. She says of mass incarceration, “I wanted to tear it down,” but the facts say otherwise.”

    • Orlando, what is your definition of “mass incarceration”? What does that mean?

      • If you can’t understand the simple fact that since September 2013, the incarceration rate of the United States of America was the highest in the world, at 716 per 100,000 of the national population. While the United States represents about 4.4 percent of the world’s population, it houses around 22 percent of the world’s prisoners.

Then you are ignorant buffoon who has no clue what is truly is going on in the U.S.

        • Orlando, see this is why I ask for definitions. Since you failed to provide a definition I will go with the most common definition of “mass incarceration” being the arresting and imprisoning of people en mass, guilty and innocent alike, for a crime. Is this really the case? No it is not.

Of all the people in prison in the US how many are there without a trial? None (we should hope). One can certainly argue that maybe the trials were not “fair” but trials disprove the claim of “mass incarceration”.

That the US needs serious legal/prison reform I fully agree – with after burners. Obviously the drug laws are insane and need to go. And I do not believe in any “crimes” that produce no victim. Plea bargaining rather than having the prosecutors prove their charges in a trial, stacking charges, mandatory sentencing, three strikes laws, cops can lie but the people cannot, etc. all need to go. Not to mention “private prisons”! A most sinister scheme.

          • Why are you such a moron with the world’s knowledge at your fingertips? People are getting incarcerated without even being convicted.

            https://www.prisonpolicy.org/graphs/jailsconvictionstatus.html

            • Orlando, there is a difference between pre-trial prisoners in jails and convicted prisoners in prison. Please provide an example of people being arrested and thrown into prisons without trials en mass.

      • If you are too stupid to read and understand statics here is a simple graphic broken down by race.

        https://www.prisonpolicy.org/graphs/raceinc.html

        • statistics

        • So what if that is the incarceration rates? According to all crime reports POC, especially blacks, commit more crimes so of course the incarceration rates are going to reflect that.

          • Now you are just being a dumb racist moron.

While there is a correlation between blacks and Hispanics and crime, the data imply a much stronger tie between poverty and crime than crime and any racial group, when gender is taken into consideration.[74] The direct correlation between crime and class, when factoring for race alone, is relatively weak. When gender, and familial history are factored, class correlates more strongly with crime than race or ethnicity.[75][76] Studies indicate that areas with low socioeconomic status may have the greatest correlation of crime with young and adult males, regardless of racial composition, though its effect on females is negligible.[75][76] A 1996 study looking at data from Columbus, Ohio found that differences in disadvantage in city neighborhoods explained the vast majority of the difference in crime rates between blacks and whites,[77] and two 2003 studies looking at violent offending among juveniles reached similar conclusions.[78][79]

            • Orlando, I am happy to give you a thoughtful response but you are going to have to first give me a definition for “racist”. Thank you.

              • I know you are trying to be cute and think you are having some sort of ‘debate’ with your farcical stances. I know you are nothing more than an ideologue and make wild proclamations all the time with no substance or data to back up what you say.

This is why you can’t back up what you said about MLK being a ‘fraud’. Because in reality you are nothing but a fraud.

                • Orlando, I ask a simple straight up question – How do you define “racist”? You have accused me of being a “racist” yet you cannot not even define what that means?!

          • In other words dubass, Blacks and other racial(phenotypes) groups commit crimes at the same rate however studies show that Blacks are incarcerated more often and longer for the exact same crimes.

            • Orlando, “Blacks and other racial(phenotypes) groups commit crimes at the same rate…”

LOL! Show me that report please.

              • You truly are a moron. And yet you can’t explain why MLK is a fraud. If you’re convicted of a federal offense, on average you will serve more time — for the exact same crime — if you’re black than if you’re white.

That’s the conclusion of a new report by the US Sentencing Commission, which found that black men got 19.1 percent longer sentences for the same federal crimes as white men between fiscal years 2012 and 2016. This was after accounting for several variables, including criminal history, whether someone pleaded guilty, age, education, and citizenship. A separate analysis that controlled for a history of violence — but only for fiscal year 2016, due to a lack of data for other years — produced similar results.

                • Orlando, maybe you should not use words you do not know the meaning of. I will be more than happy to address the faults in your responses but only when you can articulate your accusations against me. So I will ask again, define “racist”.

And FTR I did offer proof that MLK was a fraud.

                  • No you provided allegations that have not been proven. One, although there are issues of so called ‘academic plagiarism’ it did not diminish his overall thesis his doctorate still recognized.

Two allegations of his supposed extra-marital affairs come from the same people who murdered him.

And finally, you obtuse fool, King was murdered by the State because of his ability to move people through his writings and oratory. He was killed because he began to speak out against the Vietnam War and the correlation between, poverty, militarism and racism. And did it using his real name and face.

Unlike you ‘inforebelscum’ who believes that regection of objective reality is some sort of actual way to make the world a better place. What a joke you truly are.

                    • Orlando, if you do not have the intellectual capacity to define “racist” and your claim that I am one then at least have the intellectual integrity to withdraw your accusation. Until you do either one our conversation is over.

  • I am a proud Russian ‘asset”!

  • “Kamala Harris is no activist, she is Hillary Clinton in a black face. This is precisely the reason why the corporate donor class are licking their chops and pushing Harris as a viable presidential candidate. She has proven her loyalty to Wall Street; when push comes to shove, CEOs know that they have an ally in Kamala. What Harris is banking on is an electorate that is so deranged by Trump’s puerility that we don’t inspect her positions and just accept her optics and rhetoric as a suitable alternative to the incumbent president.

In order to obscure her ignominious record, she released a memoir that is heavy on platitude and extra-light when it comes to substance. Hoping to capture the White House in 2020, she decided to follow in the footsteps of Obama by pushing a book that leans on identity politics while ignoring her deeds. Unlike Obama, she is no blank canvas, Harris has a vast record of corporate obsequiousness that she can’t run from.”

  • Black Agenda Report exposed the farce of the so-called progressive candidate trotted out during (s)election cycles. Because these socialist are Black they were ignored by white so-called progressives.

“Bernie Sanders is this election’s Democratic sheepdog. The sheepdog is a card the Democratic party plays every presidential primary season when there’s no White House Democrat running for re-election. The sheepdog is a presidential candidate running ostensibly to the left of the establishment Democrat to whom the billionaires will award the nomination. Sheepdogs are herders, and the sheepdog candidate is charged with herding activists and voters back into the Democratic fold who might otherwise drift leftward and outside of the Democratic party, either staying home or trying to build something outside the two party box.

1984 and 88 the sheepdog candidate was Jesse Jackson. In 92 it was California governor Jerry Brown. In 2000 and 2004 the designated sheepdog was Al Sharpton, and in 2008 it was Dennis Kucinich. This year it’s Vermont senator Bernie Sanders. The function of the sheepdog candidate is to give left activists and voters a reason, however illusory, to believe there’s a place of influence for them inside the Democratic party, if and only if the eventual Democratic nominee can win in November.”

  • “Progressives I’d been fighting alongside in 2016 began succumbing to the Russiagate mind virus in 2017, folding under peer pressure and aggressive mass media manipulation. Some of them held strong for a few months, then when one of the hollow but oh-so-confident-sounding “bombshell” Russiagate reports struck them in the right way at the right time they made public social media posts saying they were now convinced.”
I usually always agree with everything you say until this. I was a progressive and a Berner who Demexited. I do not know one progressive who was a democrat for Bernie who believes in the Russiagate bs. Not one.

    • I wish I could say the same, but I know plenty of people who are taken in by it. Some because they are so desperate to embrace anything anti Trump, but also because they hear it so often. The result will be that Trump will win the 2020 election.

  • Caitlin, I admire how you always come out swinging.
You are a pit-bull against the established ruling class,
who seem to be unconcerned about how the rulers are
destroying our planet – making it uninhabitable for
future generations (including their own offspring).

  • Sandernistas were somehow shocked when Sanders capitulated to HRC, however it was widely known that Sanders role in this political theater is to be the sheepdog of the so called progressive left.

While Sandernistas were concerned about election nonsense, the real truth was being spread by WikiLeaks in the DNC leaks and Pedesta leaks which ultimately was warped into Pizzagate is why Clinton wasn’t given the throne and WikiLeaks taken down back in 2016.

  • Thanks for your interesting article. I do consider myself fortunate not to live in the USA. I mean, Australia has it’s own Problems, but they seem positively benign, compared with Land of the Free.
I wish you all the best of British and a, hopefully, fair and open Election.
    Hubert

    • Hubert, greetings from a fellow Australian. I too am glad I don’t live in the US and agree our problems are, by and large, not (yet) as drastic as theirs. But I am extremely concerned that both major parties take their foreign policy direct from Washington which means antagonistic relationships with countries we should be getting along with for the benefit of trade and world peace.

      • Both US political parties get their foreign policy marching orders from the Council of Foreign Relations just like the Brits get their marching orders from Chatham House . Both are offshoots of the Roundtable councils started by Cecil Rhodes and other Anglo-Zionist.

      • The UK and US are #1 top trading partners, tied by common interests-ideals, banking/finance/corps/arrangements, consult & act in tandem on almost all foreign policy, live by a ‘post war order, institutions and norms protecting, “Special Relationship” ‘, follow the concept of World Empire/Hegemon and are responsible for the endless looting, dismantling, de-industrialization and decaying/eroding the commonwealth, treasure, rights, safety, privacy, respect for & lifestyle of the peoples of every land they get their hands on.

It’s an Empire of ‘the West’

  • At this stage of the New McCarthyism, the Democrats are into a mode where any political opponent is automatically smeared as a Russian Agent. Obviously, the Democrats and their great new friends at the CIA are automatically righteous and holy and the exceptional politicians who must lead America, therefore it is obvious that anyone who opposes them must be a Russian Agent.

The world is surreal. I came into this play in the years immediately following the McCarthy era. At that time, it was well agreed that the whole thing had been awful and that concepts like Guilt by Association were unfair and dishonest. At least among the Democratic household where I was raised and in much of the post-McCarthy-era media.

Thus, it is quite bizarre to see the Democrats adopting the New McCarthyism with an enthusiasm that might even make Sen Joe McCarthy blush. I suppose I’ve learned two lessons in this lifetime. One is that all politicians are liars and will eventually always adopt the positions they currently despise. The second is that my government seems rather determined to kill me and has been taking that position for my entire life.
