Listen to a reading of this article:

Two different media watchdog outlets, Media Lens and Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting (FAIR), have published articles on the complete blackout in mainstream news institutions on the revelation by Icelandic newspaper Stundin that a US superseding indictment in the case against Julian Assange was based on false testimony from diagnosed sociopath and convicted child molester Sigurdur Thordarson.

FAIR’s Alan MacLeod writes that “as of Friday, July 2, there has been literally zero coverage of it in corporate media; not one word in the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, NBC News, Fox News or NPR.”

“A search online for either ‘Assange’ or ‘Thordarson’ will elicit zero relevant articles from establishment sources, either US or elsewhere in the Anglosphere, even in tech-focused platforms like the Verge, Wired or Gizmodo,” MacLeod adds.

“We have not found a single report by any ‘serious’ UK broadcaster or newspaper,” says the report by Media Lens. “But in a sane world, Stundin’s revelations about a key Assange witness – that Thordarson lied in exchange for immunity from prosecution – would have been headline news everywhere, with extensive media coverage on BBC News at Six and Ten, ITV News, Channel 4 News, front-page stories in the Times, Telegraph, the Guardian and more.”

“For those who still believe the media provides news, please read this,” tweeted Australian journalist John Pilger regarding the Media Lens report. “Having led the persecution of Julian Assange, the ‘free press’ is uniformly silent on sensational news that the case against Assange has collapsed. Shame on my fellow journalists.”

As we discussed the other day, this weird, creepy media blackout has parallels with another total blackout on a different major news story which also involved WikiLeaks. In late 2019 the leak outlet Assange founded was publishing multiple documents from whistleblowers in the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) revealing that the organisation’s leadership actively tampered in the investigation into an alleged chlorine gas attack in Douma, Syria in 2018 to support the US government narrative on the allegation, yet the mass media wouldn’t touch it. A Newsweek reporter resigned from his position during this scandalous blackout and published the emails of his editors forbidding him from covering the story on the grounds that no other major outlet had reported on it.

Make no mistake, this is most certainly a new phenomenon. If you don’t believe me, contrast the blackout on these stories with the mass media coverage on WikiLeaks revelations a few short years earlier. The press eagerly lapped up the 2016 publications of Democratic Party emails and actively collaborated with WikiLeaks in the publication of the Chelsea Manning leaks in 2010. Even the more recent Vault 7 leaks published in 2017 received plenty of media coverage.

Yet now every WikiLeaks-related story that is inconvenient for the US-centralized empire is carefully kept out of mainstream attention, with a jarring uniformity and consistency we’ve never experienced before. If the media environment of today had existed ten or fifteen years earlier, it’s possible that most people wouldn’t even know who Assange is, much less the important information about the powerful that WikiLeaks has brought to light.

We also caught a strong whiff of this new trend in the near-total blackout on the Hunter Biden October surprise last year, which only went mainstream because it stood to benefit one of America’s two mainstream political factions. After the New York Post first broke the story we saw mainstream media figures publicly explaining to each other why it was fine not to cover it with reasoning that was all over the map, from it’s a waste of time to it’s just too darn complicated to it’s not our job to research these things to the Washington Post’s notorious “We must treat the Hunter Biden leaks as if they were a foreign intelligence operation — even if they probably aren’t.”

Anyone who dared publicize the leaks anywhere near the mainstream liberal echo chamber was bashed into submission by the herd, and without any legitimate reason it was treated like a complete non-story at best and a sinister Russian op at worst. And then, lo and behold, in April of this year Hunter Biden acknowledged that the leaks could very well have come from his laptop after all, and not from some GRU psyop.

And I think that whole ordeal gives us some answers into this disturbing new dynamic of complete blackouts on major news stories. Last year The Spectator‘s Stephen L Miller described how the consensus formed among the mainstream press since Clinton’s 2016 loss that it is their moral duty to be uncritical of Trump’s opponent and suppress any news stories which might benefit them.

“For almost four years now, journalists have shamed their colleagues and themselves over what I will call the ‘but her emails’ dilemma,” Miller writes. “Those who reported dutifully on the ill-timed federal investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private server and spillage of classified information have been cast out and shunted away from the journalist cool kids’ table. Focusing so much on what was, at the time, a considerable scandal, has been written off by many in the media as a blunder. They believe their friends and colleagues helped put Trump in the White House by focusing on a nothing-burger of a Clinton scandal when they should have been highlighting Trump’s foibles. It’s an error no journalist wants to repeat.”

Once you’ve accepted that journalists have not just a right but a duty to suppress news that is both factual and newsworthy in order to protect a political agenda, you’re out in open water in terms of blatant propaganda manipulation. And we saw the mainstream press shoved into alignment with this doctrine in the wake of the 2016 election.

This shove was never the biggest story of the day, but it was constant, forceful, and extremely dominant in the conversations that mainstream journalists were having with each other both publicly and privately in the wake of the 2016 election. Even before the votes were cast, we saw people like Vox’s Matt Yglesias and Axios editor Scott Rosenberg shaming mass media reporters for focusing on the Hillary Clinton email scandal, and after Trump hysteria kicked in it got a whole lot more aggressive.

In 2017 we saw things like Clinton insider Jennifer Palmieri melodramatically lamenting the media’s fixation on WikiLeaks publications despite the Clinton campaign’s desperate attempts to warn them that it was a Russian operation (a claim that to this day remains entirely without evidence). Liberal pundits like Joy Reid, Eric Boehlert and Peter Daou (prior to his leftward conversion) were constantly browbeating the press on Twitter for covering the leaks at all.

It ramped up even further when mainstream reporters like The New York Times’ Amy Chozick and CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin stepped forward with degrading mea culpas on how badly they regret allowing the Russian government to use them as unwitting pawns to elect Donald Trump with their reporting on newsworthy facts about completely authentic documents. It was like a cross between the confession/execution scene from Animal Farm and the walk of atonement scene from Game of Thrones.

Bit by bit the belief that the press has a moral obligation to suppress newsworthy stories if there’s a possibility that they could benefit undesirable parties foreign or domestic became the prevailing orthodoxy in mainstream news circles. By mid-2018 we were seeing things like BBC reporter Annita McVeigh admonishing a guest for voicing skepticism about Syrian president Bashar al-Assad’s culpability in the Douma incident on the grounds that “we’re in an information war with Russia.” It’s now simply taken as a given that managing narratives is part of the job.

Again, this is a new phenomenon. Mainstream media have always been propaganda firms, but they’ve relied on spin, distortion, half-truths, uneven coverage, and uncritically parroted government assertions; there weren’t these complete information barricades across all outlets. You’d see them giving important stories an inadequate amount of coverage, and some individual outlets would neglect inconvenient stories. But you’d always see someone jump at the chance to be the first to report it, if for no other reason than ratings and profit.

That’s simply not how things work now. A major story can come to light and only be covered by media outlets which mainstream partisans will scoff at and dismiss, like RT or Zero Hedge.

The way the mass media have begun simply ignoring major news stories that are inconvenient for the powerful, across not just some but all major news outlets, is extremely disturbing. It means any time there’s an inconvenient revelation, mainstream news institutions will just pretend it doesn’t exist.

Seriously think about what this means for a moment. This is telling whistleblowers and investigative journalists that no matter how hard they work or how much danger they put themselves in to get critical information out to the public, the public will never find out about it, because all mainstream news outlets will unify around blacking it out.

You want to talk about a threat to the press? Forget jailing journalists and whistleblowers, how about all news outlets of any real influence unifying to simply deny coverage to any major information which comes to light? This is a threat to the thing the press fundamentally is. More than a threat. It’s the end. The end of the possibility of any kind of journalism having any meaningful impact.

The journalist who worked on the Stundin report says he spent months working on this story, and he would surely have expected his revelations to get some coverage in the rest of the western press. The OPCW whistleblowers would surely have expected their revelations to get enough attention to make a difference, otherwise they wouldn’t have leaked those documents at great risk to themselves. What’s being communicated to whistleblowers and journalists in these blackouts is, don’t bother. It won’t make any difference, because no one will ever see what you reveal.

And if that’s true, well. God help us all, I guess.

Come on, the MSM covered Assange when it mattered, 1. Wikileaks is a Russian asset, 2. Assange is not a journalist, he’s a foreign asset, 3. he delivered intel that led to the death of U.S. agents (false on multiple accounts, Afghan citizens, not dead, and someone else leaked the info).

Regarding the horror of putting 2 Afghan locals in jeopardy justifying the slow motion death of Assange, Biden is risking the death of 10,000 interpreters, yawn, just a bad policy decision, now let’s talk about the infrastructure package.

[btw Caitlin, I avoid reading your site because it depresses me too much. Every article is a direct hit]

  2. Possibly someone can answer the following questions:

If Chomsky is correct that “The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum….” then why pivot to the strategy of a “blackout”? When the MSM is deciding on which of the two strategies (i.e. blackout vs spectrum control) to pursue for a given topic, what factors push them towards one or the other? When they adopt the blackout strategy do they not cede the ground to control the spectrum of debate if the story should happen to go viral? If I was a MSM manager I would always want to be in front of and in control of the narrative. I would want to make sure I was implanting my desired narrative first. Thereafter, I would want the last word on the topic. First and last impressions may be very important.

Possibly the way to combat the blackout strategy is to do everything possible to make sure your desired narrative goes viral and that you deliver your narrative first then have the last word. Let the MSM try to do damage control thereafter. I believe CJ recently posted a story discussing the factors that contribute to a story going viral.

Could not agree more. These sorts of news blackouts are obscene.
    .
It becomes all the more important to support alternative news sources that compel msm attention on important stories, as with the blackout that was finally breached regarding the attempt by the U.S. government to blame burning “aid” trucks on Maduro’s government—three weeks after the episode the NYTimes was finally embarrassed into the following report:

“Footage Contradicts U.S. Claim That Nicolás Maduro Burned Aid Convoy”

  5. This is NOT a new phenomenon – only the extreme to which MSM outlets go to cover it up is what’s new. Think about how long – and how many people were starved – before the MSM even made one mention of the situation in Yemen. It only reported at all, after the pressure from activists left them no choice.

As for the false testimony against Assange, the first I saw or herd to break it was Lee camp.

    1. I believe it was journalist, Aaron Mate` on the ground in Syria who first broke the OPCW whistleblower story.

        How do you know that?

        1. The majority of the following information regarding the Jesuits was gleaned from a Chick publication “The Secret History of the Jesuits” by Edmond Paris. It has an introduction by Alberto Roberto, a former Jesuit priest who was trained in the Vatican. Here is an excerpt from Dr. Roberto’s introduction: “The most dangerous men are those who appear very religious, especially when they are organized and in a position of authority. They have the deep respect of the people who are ignorant of their ungodly push for power behind the scenes. These men, who pretend to love god, will resort to murder, incite wars and revolution if necessary to help their cause. They are crafty, intelligent, smooth, religious politicians who live in a shadowy world of secrets, intrigue, and phony holiness….work. In 1546 the political aspect of the order was activated. Among other responsibilities, it was the Jesuits duty to perform political propaganda, to assassinate world leaders, to incite rebellion from states opposing the Vatican, and to punish heretics……Whenever it served Rome’s interest to incite the people to rise against their rulers in Europe, the Vatican knew it could count on the Jesuits as being able in cunning, daring to participate in intrigue, propaganda, and even to incite blatant rebellion. The confessionals and the potential manipulation that they enabled, offered the Jesuits the means to secure a lasting political influence….
……The source of most of this is, again, THE SECRET HISTORY OF THE JESUITS. It states that “Mein Kampf” was composed by Jesuit Father Staempfle; and signed by Hitler. Furthermore, it claims that Jesuits perfected the Pan-German Programme as laid out in Mein Kampf, with Fuhrers endorsement. In addition, the Nazis seized power in Italy due to the aid of Jesuit Don Sturzo, chief of the Catholic party. Himmler was a Jesuit, and Walter Schellenberg, chief of German counter-espionage, wrote this- “The SS organization has been constituted by Himmler according to the principles of the Jesuit order. Their regulations and the spiritual exercises prescribed by Ignatius of Loyola were the model Himmler tried to copy exactly….the Reich Fuhrer SS- Himmler’s title as supreme chief of the SS was to the equivalent of the Jesuit’s general and the whole structure of the direction was a close imitation of the Catholic Church’s hierarchal order….”

Kahn, Michael. ANGRY LOUD AND CLEAR TRUTH: THE GROWTH AND MECHANISMS OF THE ROMERICAN EMPIRE . Kindle Edition.

The majority of this information comes from “Mind Control, World Control” by Jim Keith, copyrighted in 1997, 2012. Other parts are from “The Secret History of the Jesuits” by Edmond Paris, 1975. The parts by Mr Paris are the ones that show that the Vatican was behind the Nazis. I will also include excerpts from my book ANGRY LOUD AND CLEAR TRUTH, as well as from the “educate-yourself.org” website.

I am skipping a load of information as I copy and paste

As John and Allen Dulles careers grew, they integrated with Nazi interests as well as being involved in creating the CIA. As the Nazis perceived their defeat, they organized methods to escape and retain fortunes collected in looting. I will skip the details recorded by Keith, but suffice it to say that an estimated 5,000 SS and Gestapo were exfiltrated through Catholic monasteries, assisted by among others, Knight of Malta Luigi Parelli and the US Army Counter Intelligence Corps (employing Henry Kissinger) and Naval Intelligence.
General Gehlen, chief of Third Reich military intelligence in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union and utilizing fascist organizations in eastern Europe, conceived a plan to continue his influence. On August 24, 1945 he arrived by airflight to Washington National Airport, and was transported to Fort Hunt. There, Gehlen, Allen Dulles, and others came to an agreement in which Gehlen’s intelligence organization would be grafted intact into the OSS, creating the CIA. Keith claims in his book that Dulles had initially funded Gehlens’ organization $200 million, and working from a fortified stronghold in Bavaria, had grown to control the whole West German intelligence service. It also dominated NATO, providing it is estimated, 70% of the intelligence to NATO on the Soviet Union and Europe.
American intelligence has been developed and dominated by Nazis.
As I have given much evidence of in previous emails, the CIA not only gathers information, it recommends military actions (almost always rubber-stamped by the politicians “supervising”) and executes them, having indirect control over military forces, and receiving services and supplies from all sections of US military forces. That was revealed in the book The Secret Team, subtitled The CIA and its Allies in Control of the United States and the World, by L Prouty. My book ANGRY LOUD AND CLEAR TRUTH illustrates that the CIA also dominates the newsmedia in all nations, and disseminates misinformation, omits information, and creates all kinds of propaganda to intentionally create the mindsets and worldviews of the public that it wants us to have. It also has deliberately caused division and confusion in the population. The greatest resistance at this point is civilian journalists who are willingly providing independent information, and relying on donations for their work. RESISTANCE LIVES BECAUSE OF THEM.

I rather think that, since at least 2016, the present ruling class feels power slipping out of its hands, and is redoubling its efforts to keep things under control.

They have always had quite a few things to hide, but in the past it was easier to hide them. The Internet changed that, and it’s beginning to have an effect on the general population. Also I think it has become pretty obvious that many of the leadership are simply incompetent.

Somewhere I read that just 29% of the population now believes that the mainstream media are more or less veracious. So things are already pretty much out of control. This is not necessarily a good thing. While the present state is bad, it is possible for things to get worse in various ways.

      1. I wish that were true – perhaps it is. We can hope. But I see it more as an example that the ruling class feels such contempt and loathing for the proles that it no longer feels the need to hide its manipulations. Convincing the busybodies and the do-gooders that the earth was about to be engulfed by a killer virus, and that this is their Dunkirk Moment, was such a smashing success that something like half the global population has willingly accepted ‘vaccination’ against a virus that has a case fatality rate similar to the flu, using ‘vaccines’ that do not prevent the ‘vaccinated’ from contracting the virus, nor from spreading it. The ‘vaccines’ merely promise to mitigate your symptoms. By that standard of measure, aspirin is a headache vaccine.

If anyone needed a signal that the public is ready for ‘management’ by the elites, that was it.

  9. Going to be a lot of graves to be pissed on when the jab kicks in.

  10. Yes but I think you’re overlooking: “British man breaks penis”.

  11. So-called news media is a just a huge narrative manufacturing club. Fabricate the story the right way, and you get the scoops, the press conference invitations, and the insider leaks – BUT report on actual ‘inconvenient’ facts and the invitations dry up, you’re put on notice, and if you continue to be truthful and factually correct, your club membership is cancelled.
Reporters and journalists don’t investigate the actual stories anymore – they don’t have to because they don’t care about the facts. As long as the story contains a tiny bit of innocuous & often irrelevant truth, the rest can be made up to fit the desired narrative.
It is time for a new model of news and journalism, that is based solely on facts and reality. In democracies, the media’s role was supposed to inform the public and hold government to account. It doesn’t do either of these anymore, and is no better than a massive public relations / marketing operation representing governments and big business.
I stopped paying money to get the so-called news a long time ago when I realised what I was getting wasn’t real news.

  14. I would like to point out, Caitlens observation about mass-media selectively blocking out stories being something ‘new’ under the sun, is not really accurate. The fact is, corporate media has been doing this since, well, forever. In the pre-internet days, ‘news did the exact same thing CJ is characterizes as ‘new behaviors’ today. One of the better ways I heard it articulated was a comparison of methods between the old Soviet Union, and the Free-World Order. In the SU, being the bearer of inconvenient news, could get you censored, possibly charged and or imprisoned even. The Free-World Order, otoh, being much more ‘sophisticated’, did not need to imprison, harrass, or censor information in the crude, heavy-handed Soviet manner. No, instead, ‘we’ just let anyone telling stories that the powerful didnt want to be told, to twist in the wind. IE, were ignored. By the same mass-media that blacks out stories in 2021.

I am old enough to recall exactly how bland, sanitized, biased, and self-serving mass-media was pre-internet. I can say with some surety here, what we are seeing today is not quite as ‘new’ as Caitlens article suggests. Now I am not saying this article is not pertinent, or inaccurate or anything like that, just like to remind everyone the media today, is not so different, from the media of yesterday as we sometimes imagine.

I notice when it comes to the so-called ‘free-press’, there tends to be a certain amount of sentimentality and rose-colored glasses syndrome going on. That the press was somehow, ‘better’ in the past, or behaved ‘differently’ somehow. At best, I would say, they were a little less ‘less worse’. Today, they are simply more strident, shrill, loud and blatant than ever before. That is noteworthy in itself to be sure, but, it does mean the press was any less manipulative, and controlling of the flows of information in the past than the present.

    1. “No, instead, ‘we’ just let anyone telling stories that the powerful didnt want to be told, to twist in the wind. IE, were ignored. By the same mass-media that blacks out stories in 2021.”

Seriously? Do you even read? From Caitlin’s article:

“The press eagerly lapped up the 2016 publications of Democratic Party emails and actively collaborated with WikiLeaks in the publication of the Chelsea Manning leaks in 2010. Even the more recent Vault 7 leaks published in 2017 received plenty of media coverage.”

Remember the “collateral Murder” video? Remember how that was not blacked out? If you’re so old and so clearly remember the world pre-internet, perhaps you recall a few “sanitized, biased, and self-serving mass-media” items on a thing called “Watergate”? The Pentagon Papers? The Mai Lai Massacre? Ringing any bells yet wise old guy?

      1. Often what happens is that big stories that cannot be effectively squashed are allowed to surface but only briefly before being resigned to obscurity. There’s probably a name for this but it works on some of the same basic principles as controlled opposition.

When exposure never means consequences, that’s the game.

        1. “When exposure never means consequences, that’s the game.”

Oh, of course. Nixon suffered no consequences from the exposure of Watergate, it was just a coincidence that he resigned.

          1. The overarching paradigm changes in fifty years. Right now the shit being gotten away with is too voluminous to keep track of. There is a special insidiousness in that too. Recognize this point in history for its repetition of the past and for its unprecedented uniqueness too.

          2. Many ordinary people would be delighted to ‘suffer’ the consequences that Nixon enjoyed, such as $600,000 for some TV interviews with Brit David Frost.

      2. Paul Douglas Rackemann Avatar
        Paul Douglas Rackemann

I think if you’re younger, you may be missing the context. The Viet Nam war was very unpopular with the younger set at the time. They were taken seriously in a way, because the older people thought that things were going to the dogs and that the younger people needed to be pulled into line. The generation who had fought World War Two were still largely in charge. There were some hysterical comments about “children” thinking that their judgement was man-sized just because they had passed puberty. But the thing is that the media were not united behind an agenda as they are now, or, if they were, it was an anti-government, pro-youth agenda. Nowadays, the media are indistinguishable from the government. But you must remember that censorship was very effective during World War Two. I didn’t find out until I visited Broome a few years ago that it had been bombed by the Japanese at the same time that Darwin was bombed. I don’t think anybody heard about the bombing of Darwin at the time, except for the people who were underneath it.
I think there may have been some conclusions drawn at the top levels, after what happened to Johnson and Nixon. I noticed during Bill Clinton’s troubles that he didn’t let them get to him the way Nixon and Johnson did. The government went right on, with no suggestion of any weakness. Much the same thing had happened when Reagan had to testify about the episode in which the C.I.A. were selling weapons to Iran and sending the money to anti-Communist guerrillas in Latin America in direct defiance of the law. Reagan just said that he was an old man and couldn’t tell you what papers he might have signed the week before, and they let him off. They let Clinton off because he quibbled about the meaning of the word “is.” Of course, they were both popular presidents, and it wasn’t worth it for the media or the Congress to try seriously to overthrow them.
Watergate, to me as a Nixon fan, was an organised conspiracy by media people to overthrow an elected president, which Nixon let himself be overwhelmed by. He played his hand badly. He and his boys, rightly I think, saw themselves as fighting a permanent government that had been instituted by FDR – Franklin Delano Roosevelt to the young. Roosevelt instituted a form of socialism in the U.S.A., and it has never been overthrown. Nixon tried; Reagan tried; Trump, in a less coherent way, also tried. They perhaps didn’t realise that they were fighting a tendency to corruption that is probably inherent in civilisation, and which had been getting stronger in America since the institution of the Federal Reserve System and the suspension of payment in gold at the beginning of World War One, if not earlier.
The leaks by Robert Manning (as he then was) were not given the sort of prominence that the Pentagon Papers and the anti-war efforts in the Viet Nam War time were given. I think the public reaction was a lot more apathetic. The younger people didn’t show any outrage.
You should remember that the young are kept a lot busier at busy-work which is pretended to be the acquisition of knowledge nowadays. I remember talking to a leftist lady in about 1977 about the larger workloads that students were getting. She was sure that it was to keep them from having time to think, and I think she was probably right.
I’m sorry if this is a bit incoherent: I don’t understand what is going on completely either, and I am thinking it out as I go along. But you have to realise, as somebody else said recently, that how to manipulate the public is a serious area of modern scientific research, and they are getting better at it all the time. I had to study a bit of it at university over forty years ago, and I hated it. The system ejects people who have silly old-fashioned ideas about citizenship and truth: it is the science of manipulation of the public that matters. I have what I think is an extra insight into it because in my younger days I was fascinated by the way in which what you would call cowboys (stockmen in Australia) are able to manipulate rather wild cattle into a mob which is then driven into the yards, where we would do what we liked with them. We used their social instincts and their ignorance against them. That, as I see it, is exactly what the people in charge do to us.
To conclude, I am inclined to side with Champis.

        1. “I think if you’re younger, you may be missing the context.”

Curious. How would your answer be different if I were older?

“…[bunch of random blather including peculiar defence of Nixon’s blatantly illegal election shenanigans and obstruction of justice]…”

“To conclude, I am inclined to side with Champis.”

That’s nice. Not that its a matter of choosing sides, but In what way do you “side with Champis”? I agree the political instinct to censor/restrict damning or damaging information is as old as the origin of story telling, as old as society itself. It also seems to me to have recently reached new extremes, which I think is the point Caitlin was trying to make. One which she supported with relevant examples. One which I tried to supplement with examples of my own.

Once you’ve figured out what it is you agree or disagree with, maybe you could bolster your opinion with some evidence?

fwiw, I find it hard to agree with your assessment that “…they let Clinton off because he quibbled about the meaning of “is” “. Not to mention that the issue under discussion is not the corruption endemic at the highest levels of politics, but censorship. As I understand it, Clinton’s fatuous testimony was well reported in all the mainstream media outlets at the time.

One thing we always have to keep in mind with the media is the profit motive. They may have a political agenda, but they also want to have readers or viewers. If you are an Australian, you may remember Pauline Hanson’s first incarnation. (She is still around, but is much more part of the Establishment nowadays.) The media decried her, but they also let her socialise with them and gave her lots of airtime. She was news. The same thing applied to Trump: they decried him, but they kept talking and writing about him because it sold. Joe Biden isn’t nearly as exciting.
Regarding Nixon, I think his mistake was that he was a pragmatist. I tried to copy him for a while when I was young. He forgot that the scum will play dirty tricks on you, but they will hold up their hands in horror if you play dirty tricks on them.

  15. “What’s being communicated to whistleblowers and journalists in these blackouts is, don’t bother. It won’t make any difference, because no one will ever see what you reveal.

And if that’s true, well. God help us all, I guess.”

So it goes, I am surprised you did not know. For more than a decade all American news agencies require an email contact from anyone before they will talk to them. On the multiple choice test following this comment remember to check the “this is to fight terrorism” if you want full credit, but that is not the truth.

The requirement is there to maintain operational security.

What’s really disappointing is that analysts working for various intelligence agencies lack a sense of humor. Twice I attempted to post a comment on a YouTube Channel which discussed Assange’s plight and the post was removed both times. 1. Four million dead worldwide, but you said it was all just a conspiracy. You couldn’t stand to be wrong and lost your temper. More to the point, you were angry and said exactly what you were thinking, just like when you said I was an FBI agent. Paranoiacs always give themselves away.

It wasn’t anger it was disgust by your insipid simplistic thinking. I was aghast, that anyone could accept the COVID malarkey statistics and compare them to the holocust a tactic done by some sociopaths to give credence to security state BS. But in reality when someone makes that type of analogy it is antisemitic since such a comparison diminishes the horrors of the Holocaust.

            1. People don’t say one thing when they mean the opposite. I said four million were dead; you said it was a conspiracy, I was a Zionist, plus I was an FBI agent trying to trick you. You meant all of those things. Deflection doesn’t work on thing’s you’ve already said.

Don’t lose heart, Caitlin. One feature of this episode is that all “good” people are united. As I keep repeating, “education” is our religion now, and like all religions, it will have its episodes of unity and its times of breaking up into factions. At my age, I may be missing some features of the present unity, but I think it includes the idea that Trump and the people who voted for him are bad, and the current orthodoxies about sex, race, and the environment. This business about the new flu is also part of it at present.
Some time soon after Trump was elected, I was a tourist in Switzerland and France, and many of the other people in my tour group were very anti-Trump Americans. I remember hearing a lady say, “This is a terrible thing that has happened, and we must make sure that it never happens again.” I think the implication was that ballot fraud was morally acceptable if it was necessary to keep the rednecks from getting a majority for someone like Trump again.
As you have noted, it also includes the idea that the news must be censored and slanted to keep people from getting wrong ideas and voting for wrong candidates.
This is not new. In earlier times in Europe, people were burned at the stake for having wrong ideas about Jesus and his daddy and his friends. I don’t want to dwell on the sorts of things they did and still do in China, because that would be racist.
We need be under no illusions that the people in authority are good people. As I keep repeating, they are soldiers (who live by the use of force) and priests (who live by deception). The great gains in civilisation over the last few centuries are partly due to the fact that there was not a strong priestly consensus. All the brighter people had realised by then that Christianity was a crock, but there was no new consensus that was strong enough to be imposed on everyone. So discussion flourished, and progress in knowledge was made. Now things have settled down again, and everyone knows that you just have to believe what the “educated people” believe, whether it is true or not. Whether it is true or not, believing it or pretending to believe it will advance your career, and expressing even the mildest scepticism about it will be bad for your career.

    1. Christianity isn’t a crock, religion is. Religion is a bureaucracy the same as any other, seeking its own preservation and wellbeing above all else.

  20. This is why I stopped following Mainstream Media back in 2009. Caitlin may be correct, (she has an annoying habit of being right about things), that this total ignoring of inconvenient stores is new, but the MSM have been BS’ing us shamelessly since Walter Cronkite retired 35 years ago. So I shut them out of my life a dozen years ago. It’s not that hard to do.

Frankly, I trust Press TV more than even the best (least bad?) of the American MSM, and that’s a sad state of affairs, but it is what it is.

  21. In two opposite parts of the planet which hardly had any communication with each other, Heraclitus and Lao Tzu discovered in the same VIth century BCE that all phenomena are in motion towards their opposites. Western civilization has been a beacon of freedom for a couple of hundred years – since Christian religion lost the battle of geocentrism basically. It is now moving back toward the feudal totalitarianism that characterized the Middle Ages – history not being linear as the Western mind generally thinks but cyclical as commonly held in the Orient with every being going through the same cycle of creation, maintenance and destruction symbolized in India by Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, who finally destroys so that Brahma can build anew:

After discovering in Solzhenytsin’s Gulag Archipelago the process of the fall into tyranny, we’ve witnessed the rise out of it with the end of the USSR’s necrosed system in the late 80’s. Since nature abhors a vacuum, it is now coming our way and we should soon find ourselves in the universe of that joke we used to tell in the early 80’s. A guy from Colorado, one from California and one from the USSR are asked their definition of happiness. The one from Colorado says: “Well, I love to drive up the mountain with my beautiful wife and our two great kids. We park our motor home in the woods by a brook and enjoy the clean air and the wonderful spectacle of deers and other wild animals roaming around. For me, that’s happiness”. Then the guy from California is asked and replies: “I love parking my motor home in front of a beach, smoking a joint with my beautiful girl friend while listening to surf music and then going to ride the big waves until the sun goes down. For me, that’s happiness”. Then the guy from the USSR is asked and replies: “I am sleeping in the narrow bed of my little flat on the last floor of my five storey building without elevator on a cold winter night. Suddenly, I am awakened by the sound of hobnail boots in the wooden staicase. I listen carefully and hear them climb all the way to my landing and stop at my doorstep where a hand knocks heavily on my door. I turn on the dim light of my bedside lamp, put on a dressing gown and open the door reluctantly. Two burly grim-faced men in putty-colored raincoats are standing there and one of them asks in a raspy voice: ‘Are you Feodor Feodorovitch Vasiliev?’ For me happiness is being able to answer: ‘Nah, Feodor Feodorovitch Vasiliev is dude next door’”.

    1. It’s a joke but it’s very quickly becoming not a joke. Solzhenytsin was lauded by the West because it suited their purposes at the time. Currently they are taking their cues from from his antagonists.

Rudyard Kipling wrote a poem called Mesopotamia:
Our dead shall not return to us while Day and Night divide—
Never while the bars of sunset hold.
But the idle-minded overlings who quibbled while they died,
Shall they thrust for high employments as of old?
      ~

Shall we only threaten and be angry for an hour?
When the storm is ended shall we find
How softly but how swiftly they have sidled back to power
By the favour and contrivance of their kind?
      ~

Even while they soothe us, while they promise large amends,
Even while they make a show of fear,
Do they call upon their debtors, and take counsel with their friends,
To conform and re-establish each career?
      ~

Their lives cannot repay us—their death could not undo—
The shame that they have laid upon our race.
But the slothfulness that wasted and the arrogance that slew,
Shall we leave it unabated in its place?

    3. My grandfather also mentioned how:

      1. The Army/Government turned a blind eye to British POWs not being released after WW2 from German camps liberated by the Russians until the British handed over the German scientists smuggled to Blighty &

      2. How the British Army in WW2, nearly invaded Russia to take their oil, prior to the Germans invading it. Wouldn’t WW2 have turned out differently?

      3. He was also the opinion, dying early and reaching the level of Major (via the ranks), of the disgust he had for the officer class and imperialist UK. His opinion that after WW2, the yearly parade honoring those dead in WW2, should be carried out in civilian clothes as he thought it was the civilians that won the war.

Had he been alive today, I believe he would have shunned the display of remembrance for the fallen in disgust at the treatment of Julian Assange, guilty only of providing the population with evidence of War Crimes by those in the West.

  25. Its like the whole of the Western world has become the old Soviet Union in the days of Pravda; fortunately samizdat (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samizdat) still survives (at least for now).

  26. For as long as I can remember, all establishment news media reported the same events, using similar clips, similar wording, and with the “reliable” experts always being the establishment. There were no other important events around the nation and world, other than the three or four “newsworthy” happenings that they all covered each day? I am 63 years old and have watched the news since around 1965, and it has always been that way.
In 1921, the American branch of the Institute of International Affairs reorganized into the Council of Foreign Relations. As I stated in EXPOSING THE MONEY MACHINE, David Rockefeller founded the Council of Foreign Relations, and appoints its members. Over the past 75 years, over 80% of every administration- democrat or republican-has been occupied by members of the CFR.

There are approximately three hundred listed members, well over a hundred of them representing the media. CBS, NBC, ABC, Cable News Network, PBS, Associated Press, Reuters, Boston Globe, Baltimore Sun, Washington Times, NY Times, Time Inc., Newsweek, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, National Review, and others had leadership in membership of the CFR. The Council of Foreign Relations and the Trilateral Commission are instruments of the illuminati formed to obliterate national boundaries and to establish a new world order. They are doing this by consolidating commercial and banking interests by capturing control of the political government of the United States, and through US covert actions, the political government of all nations.  “Some even believe that we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as “internationalists” and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure- one world, if you will. If that’s the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.”-David Rockefeller, from his book “Memoirs”

Remember that the owners of media on these committees control editing policies and content of the entire media.
David Rockefeller himself said this addressing the Trilateral Commission on June of 1991 (according to page 46 of Jim Keith’s “Mass Control: Engineering Human Consciousness”):
“We are grateful to the Washington Post, the New York Times, Time Magazine, and other great publications whose directors have attended meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subject to the bright lights of publicity during those years. But the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march toward world government. The supra-natural sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determinism practiced in past centuries.”
There are about a half a dozen conglomerates that own virtually the whole US media.

      – and it doesn’t verify what you said, it simply makes the same unbelievable and unsubstantiated claim.
You anti-vaxxers have been watching the VAERS data like hawks, so why did you keep quiet about these 150,000 supposed deaths while they were there? You must have known they were in the database if you’ve now noticed they’ve been deleted, so why weren’t you screaming about them when we could check for ourselves?
And it’s easy to download data from VAERS in a variety of forms and formats, so why do you only have evidence of one deleted case (VAERS ID 966236)? What about the other 149,999 alleged deaths that have disappeared?
In short, you want us to believe you said nothing about these 150,000 deaths while they were in the database, and you’ve no evidence they ever were there (apart from one), but we should take your word for it they definitely were and they’ve been deleted.
      Sure.

Now I see where you are coming from. I am seven years older than you, and I started getting a version of the world news (from the Australian Government radio network, which we call the A.B.C., and which is modelled on the B.B.C. in Britain) from about the year 1960.
In the 1970s, I came into contact with an Australian conservative political group, the League of Rights, which at the time had friendly relations with your John Birch Society. The story about Cecil Rhodes, John Ruskin, and the Institutes of International Affairs was told in considerable detail in their publications and the books they sold. The source book they used was Carroll Quigley’s “Tragedy and Hope.” I understand that the story has since been taken up by religious people and linked to ideas about the Masons and the Illuminati.
I was quite enthusiastic about this stuff myself for many years. I suppose I still believe it to some degree. I couldn’t understand at first how it didn’t spread like wildfire and lead to the overthrow of the corrupt Establishment.
Since then, however, I have discovered how easy it is to draw diagrams and link people together in ways that suggest that they belong to an over-arching conspiracy. In the 1980s or 1990s, your LaRouche organisation’s people in Australia published in their newspaper an essay and diagrams, purporting to show that the world was secretly ruled by a group of people associated with the Mont Pelerin Society and the Austrian royal family, the Hapsburgs. At the bottom of the diagram, shown as one of the secret rulers of Australia, was the name of one of my friends. He had had money at various times in his life, and he had gone to the considerable expense of attending meetings of the Mont Pelerin Society, but at the time he was living very humbly in Rockhampton, in the State of Queensland, Australia. He had no influence, and was largely unknown, except to readers of the local newspaper who saw his letters to the editor.
I think it is fair to say that people in higher circles do conspire, but I think it is much bigger than you think. I suggest that all educated Western people, knowing that Christianity is false and searching, as people do, for someone else to do their thinking for them, have come to accept an orthodoxy or religious structure that largely consists of the “education” system itself. The very top of this structure in a formal sense consists of people like the editors of major newspapers and the vice-chancellors of universities, but I think (following C. S. Lewis) that the informal structure, the “inner ring,” is also important, and it consists of these secretive social groups of the extreme upper class.

      1. oh, now you see where I am coming from. As the author of three books, mr expert, please tell me where I am, since you see where I am coming from. Were you there also, so that you recognized me as an old acquaintance? Or perhaps you have read all three of my major works, or maybe you are one of my old cellmates from one of my incarcerations for writing books “that connected names of positions’ but my authentically original and radical books are certainly the rantings of somebody who just read a book and thinks he knows something. Those thousands of hours of research, the incarcerations including eight months solitary confinement were a product of blabber and wild conjecture. Thank you for being there for me in my incarcerations and homelessness due to the publishing of books that had no classified information, but that were the initation of the red pill blue pill awakening and that started a new genre.

      2. obviously you saw my little sampling. I have done so much and connected the dots and penned them in such a way that an eight year old could understand the establishment’s strategies. I make extemely complex issues simple for anybody’s comprehension. It took years of study and critical analysis. I submitted a tiny fraction of the research to show you it is legitimate. Please don’t insult me with blabber and nonsense

      3. Thank you for off-handedly complimenting me. I appreciate praise, as well as criticism. Yes, i have been told by Louis Saper, inventor of the heart defibrilator, that a sign of great intelligence is to be able to explain complex concepts so an eight year old can comprehend. If you can’t, then you are not so smart. I do try to illustrate in real time how things work and to show by example the strategies used to manipulate and control the people- he who controls the media (and education system) controls the mind. I can understand that you don’t like to be put into a category, but that is how we readers sort out the ideas that we are flooded with.
What are your books called, and where are they available? I have access to a friendly secondhand bookshop here, which will find books for me all over the world, if they are there to be had. I get the impression that you are one of the Protestants who links the Church to conspiracies, whereas the Catholic circles I got to know when I was vaingloriously trying to help in the anti-Communist struggle in the 1970s, were more inclined to link the conspiracies to Freemasonry.
I have also read sceptical books by people from the Education religion, who doubted that conspiracies existed. You may know of, for instance, “The Mythology of the Secret Societies,” by J. M. Roberts. (I am giving that book name and author’s name from memory.) I think I have already given a brief summary of the conclusions I have come to so far myself, so I won’t repeat them here.

        1. That dumbass Christopher Langan has a couple of interesting observations regarding the toleration of vaccine hesitancy that do not bode well.

Alternately, there is the latest attempt at trying to figure out exactly what the fuck is going on.

          https://www.orwell.city/2021/06/covid-19-is-caused-by-graphene-oxide.html

Assuredly, something is afoot and what that is we do not know. We won’t know it when we see it either. That’s by design. Whatever it is, it is not what they say it is. If something appears and then disappears then that may be it, but if it persists then it is filthy.

          1. Both those sources ignore the proven and well-documented role of the evil Planet Tharg in directing the evolution of lungs in order to allow COVID-19 (in reality graphene oxide poisoning, of course) to take hold. I conclude they are both agents of the even more evil Planet Ngkrublng, providing just enough information for us to make sense of the White Genocide agenda without apprehending its ultimate purpose. We must immediately slaughter all vaccinees before they cull us!

          2. THank you for graphene info= the genius can kiss my ass.

            1. I doubt that graphene is a smoking gun, rather another unhelpful facet of our designed ignorance. But then we won’t know the truth if it hits us in the face with a five pound brick. They will tell you that it’s a pillow. The intentionally added agent that sterilized a half a million Kenyan women at Bill Gates behest was traced to a lab in Switzerland. With all of the death and crippling that his vaccines have done and being kicked out of a bunch of African countries on account of this, nobody names him racist or suggests censure or punishment. Uh uh, he’s on TV with Sanjay Gupta pulling more wool.

          3. Thank you for the information regarding graphene. I am fully aware that the vaccines will kill those who took them, but graphene, found to being totally infested through chemtrails and the reason for many deaths, given through masks and other avenues, will be used for control, after billions of people are killed by vaccines, famine, war and such

Your unscientific attitude towards Covid-19 is not the same thing as the mass media blocking important news stories. If you think a highly contagious virus is “fake news”, I only hope the “fake news” doesn’t cause real death to you or yours.

      1. This is a perfect moment for a voice of reason. Thanks Carolyn! (:-})

    3. The illusion is that one may pick and choose amongst the profferings of the media. Granted, they do deviously slip in a bit of truth to keep you guessing, but the drift is always false narrative and nothing more. It is not a matter of discerning between the true and the false. It is all conceived in obfuscation. Our best loved preconceptions get stroked as bait for the hook. Some of yours, some of mine, but the hook is the same. The difficulty relinquishing that which we hold so dear is foundational fodder for the pernicious psy op that is media. The value of media is to observe those drifts and garner the direction in which your inherent world view is being pushed.

  29. You might as well just punch yourself in the face, than look and listen to the mess media.

The US Health Care outcomes have been increasingly appalling. About 50th in the world for all the ones that matter. Like longevity and maternal/infant mortality.

This year Cuba passed the US in longevity, even though the US embargoes starved them so severely they had an epidemic of nutritional blindness.

But if you want to hear about those sandbars in the South China Sea, Ted and Heidi’s excellent vacation, or a Republican going through a Stop sign? The MSM is you go-to site.

        Yes and an r.

  31. That’s your proof to connect all your writings and delusions. There is no capitalism, no socialism, no communism. Everyone is on the same old global party ruling the world in the last 1000 years. Do the proper math and you will find out the impossibility for our human history to go back more than thousand years. Look into the Bible, Torah, Quran and the descriptions of the constellations at the supposed timelines and religious passages can be debunked for any astronomer familiar with the sky. Something is hidden from us. It’s been kept in secret for just a few who control the info.
Everyone in power worldwide is in the same mud tub. There are many inconvenient truths right in front of your face. You can write against the US empire on RT but you cannot compromise the Russian federation questioning their methods. Even Iran is promoting the big pharmas and the necessity to take the covid shot. Assange hurt badly what should not be seem by ordinary people like us.He didn’t get the whole picture but he exposed key elements on the global deception.

I’m wondering if some kind of rolling strike by viewers could be used to screw up the advertising and funding base of the mainstream press culprits by ignoring them on specific days so they get the message that they also can be the victims of the cancel culture cult they have built up?
Keep up the great work, Cait and Mate. Your wonderful birthday greeting for Julian Assange was a delightful gift to him and his loved ones.

    1. Activism is impotence. Advertising is evil. Negotiation with evil is weakness.

  33. Yes, a total of 8 actual news stories returned when I searched for Sigurdur Thordarson, none of them ‘mainstream’ and even then neither Media Lens nor FAIR or Stundin (the source!) were amongst them, using Google ‘search’, Ha! Surprisingly, one of them was WSWS! Then The Canary, News Ghana, The Reykavik Grapevine, Market Research Telecast, Sputnik News and Tablet Magazine. The rest were ALL in foreign languages.

DuckDuckGo was even worse, returning only 7 actual news stories, but then it uses Google!

Startpage also returned only 8 stories with only one of them being ‘mainstream’, MSN and the addition of Democracy Now!, Havana Times and RT

Ecosia was little better, again with 8 hits with the addition of Radio Havana Cuba and Kayhan (an Iranian site)

As far as the ‘average’ user of the Web (whoever that is) an almost total news blackout!

Why were you surprised that the WSWS reported on it? The WSWS has supported Julian Assange from the beginning! WSWS is my regular first “go to” every day, followed by Caitlin.

I think you need to read more carefully, I’m not surprised they commented but that it turned up in a search given as how WSWS is normally expunged.

PS to Caitlin: Why doesn’t your site remember my details?

  34. The UK has a ‘D-Notice’ system, whereby media are officially ‘requested’ not to report on certain things. Australia has something similar, and I guess the rest of Five Eyes and NATO do too, though perhaps the very existence of such a system is one of the unmentionable facts.
