The hyperbolic language westerners use to describe fairly normal modern warfare in Ukraine suggests they’ve invested exactly zero thought in what their own governments have been doing in the middle east for the last two decades.

It’s like, yes, killing, violence and destruction is what war looks like. You’re describing the thing that war is. It’s creepy that you’re only just discovering this now. What did you think your government has been using to conduct its wars this whole time? Dank memes?

Before the Ukraine war I would’ve told you it’s impossible for me to despise shitlibs any more than I already do and impossible for me to have less respect for their foam-brained worldview. But I would have been wrong. Very, very wrong.

If your understanding of world events doesn’t account for the easily quantifiable fact that the US is the most tyrannical regime on earth by a massive margin, nothing else in your understanding of world events will be fact-based.

There’s only one government that is circling the planet with hundreds of military bases, continually working to destroy any nation who disobeys it, and has spent the 21st century killing people by the millions. It isn’t Russia. It isn’t China. One must account for this reality.

That’s tyranny. That is the thing that tyranny is. If it isn’t tyranny to bully and brutalize the entire world into obedience by any degree of violence necessary, then tyranny is a meaningless concept. The US just happens to export the majority of its tyranny outside its borders.

The fact that CNN+ couldn’t even get 10k people to pay for its content shows why Silicon Valley needs to tilt its algorithms to boost mainstream media content while hiding indie media: people only look at that bullshit when they’re forced to. If it wasn’t for Silicon Valley algorithm manipulation outlets like CNN would have died years ago.

Journalism would greatly benefit from its practitioners becoming far more disdainful of the approval of their peers, rather than seeking that approval like crack fiends. In journalism when you were respected by all the other journos it used to mean you were probably doing something right; now it’s a sure sign you are doing something wrong.

Can’t shake how weird it is that we’re hurtling toward nuclear annihilation and we’re still all babbling about Will Smith and face masks.

Future generations, if there are future generations, will look back in horror at the fact that we just let billionaire corporations not only profit from war but actively lobby for more war via think tanks, campaign funding and other influence ops.

The fact that Australians are being pummeled with war propaganda about China combined with the freakishly hawkish alarmism about the Chinese security pact with the Solomon Islands should make all conscious Australians a bit nervous. If you don’t think the US empire would happily sacrifice Australia in a proxy war against a major rival, I suggest you take a closer look at Ukraine. Will Australians be sending our kids off to die fighting China over the Solomon Islands, or will it be over Taiwan? Find out in the next thrilling episode of Empire Management!

It doesn’t need to be this way. There’s no legitimate reason major powers need to compete with each other and wave armageddon weapons at each other and try to dominate each other. We can just all collaborate toward the greater good of everyone. This is all absolute madness.

I do hope those of you who hate China but started following my work because you like my Russia/Ukraine takes are not under the illusion that we are friends. We are enemies and I deeply despise you. When things heat up with Beijing I’m going to spend every waking hour trying to make you rage-cry.

When the ecosystem is dying because of economic systems which depend on infinite growth on a finite world, your choices are either (A) abandon those systems or (B) pray that sociopathic oligarchs somehow get us into space in the next few years. Guess which one we’re going with.

Humanity’s major problems arise from the impulse to control. Ecocide arises from the impulse to control nature. Empire arises from the impulse to control civilizations. Oligarchy arises from the impulse to control political outcomes. Ego arises from the impulse to control life.

A healthy humanity would be free of the impulse to manipulate and exert control: over life, over people, over nature. But it would be so different from the humanity we know now that falling into that way of functioning would be a kind of death. And it would feel like a death.

Sometimes it seems like people want the world to end, want humanity to go extinct. I’d suggest that this may be a confused expression of an intuited truth: that there’s something good on the other side of ending all this. But it’s the end of our dysfunction, not of our species.

  1. The one redeemable quality that conservatives have is that they will kill all the shitlibs when the system crashes. Granted its because those inbreds think that shitlibs are Leftwing but a good deed is a good deed.

That’s unfair. Livestock have a quiet dignity and serve a purpose. Shitlibs are just shadows to anyone who actually matters.

  3. I have been reluctant to posit China as an enemy and wrongly so. Evidence cannot be denied. Nor can collusion from without, both garnered and sought. Only look at fentanyl. It is manufactured and distributed from China and been ignored by all who could say otherwise. There are two thing going on here. One is societal destruction from abroad and the other is collusion from within by those intent on altering the social fabric.

That the impetus of a faux world dominating bully has been subverted is a cause for celebration but the methodology does not pass the ethics sniff test. For them that are direct targets of this action it is nothing less than a form of genocide. Exactly how does one redefine this exportation as something less?

Of course China is an enemy. So are the domestic enablers of this slaughter. The motives overlap and diverge, and are negotiated in a language that does not reflect reality intentionally. We debate this language and not the reality.

    1. Honestly I bet the police themselves put Fentanyl into the drugs in order to kill off the vulnerable and to “prove” why the war on drugs must continue.

Even if it does come from China, that isn’t the Chinese government, its gangsters.

That’s like saying that Mexico is an enemy because of the Cartel.

  4. It doesn’t get more amazing than this!

Marie Yovanovitch — the former US Ambassador to Ukraine under Trump who testified against him in the 2019 impeachment, and was lauded as a hero — suggests that if Trump were in office, he’d have averted the war diplomatically. But she thinks this would’ve been a terrible thing

  5. Just a (minor) quibble.

“The US just happens to export the majority of its tyranny outside its borders.”

Actually, I would suggest the uS has plenty of tyranny going on INSIDE its borders as well, but, the same world-class ‘perception management’ machine it has, that inverts reality around world events, is at work in the ‘homeland’ as well, sanitizing zio-oligarchial tyranny its own backyard as tirelessly as it does overseas. And they get plenty of help from the shit-libs in that dept too.

  6. Still?

Appears that the “Zelensky is Jewish therefore forget about the Nazis” is still being tossed.

Read this (unless, of course, you are a promoter of brain foam):

    https://mate.substack.com/p/siding-with-ukraines-far-right-us?s=r

It explains how Zelensky went from being elected in 2019 on a platform of peace and reconciliation with the Donbas, to a pawn of the Nazis.

(tl;dr Zelensky tried for peace in 2019, but the Nazis reacted with protests, riots and very publicly repeated threats on Zelensky’s life. The oligarch who was the main funder of Zelensky’s run for president didn’t have Zelensky’s back when he was threatened. In fact, he was a funder of Azov. The US didn’t have Zelensky’s back either, their response to a call for peace by Zelensky was to fund more weapons for Ukraine.)

Newsweek said (2014) Igor Kolomoisky funded Azov:

Was anyone talking about Nazis in Ukraine (on this blog) before it became a talking point in Kremlin propaganda for Russia’s invasion? Examples?

      1. Try harder, “Ordinary”.

We have seen it so many times before.
If you don’t support the invasion of Iraq you are pro-Saddam.
If you don’t support the decimation of Libya you are pro-Ghaddafi.
If you don’t support the invasion/decimation of Syria you are pro-Assad.
If you don’t support 20 years of war in Afghanistan you are pro-Taliban.
If you don’t support **another** US created war in Ukraine then you are pro-Kremlin.

        Try harder, “Ordinary Foam.

I think what you mean is: “If you don’t support Russia’s invasion of Ukraine then you are pro-Nazi”.

          1. Keep the foam coming, Ordinary.

      2. yeah the atlantic council has been talking about nazis in Ukraine, from at least 2018. this is not news, except to shills.

      3. Ordinary "westerner" Avatar
        Ordinary “westerner”

Yes, a few 2018 articles on Atlantic Council – a needle in the haystack, in terms of their total content, and not suggestive of a level of problem requiring a full-scale military invasion! What about on this blog? How many posts/comments expressed such concern about such Ukrainian Nazis BEFORE their use in Kremlin propaganda for the Russian invasion?

I was aware of the Ukrainian Nazis and their honoring of Bandera before I knew anything about this site, like six or seven years ago. Where were you?

I was in France, active in street protests against Nazis there. Le Pen got 41% – remarkable for a country with a traditionally strong left dissent base. This is part of the broader European Nazi and far-right movement supported by Putin and people like Bannon & Mercer in the West.

          1. The Nazis went away in 1945. Sympathizers frittered away within the next thirty or forty years as one would expect. Continuing to believe in an extinct movement is absurd. Making LARPers evidence is but a challenge issued from the depths of a narrative grown old and struggling to find enemies conducive to your manipulation. If one looks closely at the Azov “Nazis” there is a distinct adherence to Satanism and paganism much more so. Whatever it is, neat categories of hate are but tools of the oppressors. In adopting their criteria you become but a tool.

      4. Corporate media themselves all admitted that Ukraine was taken over by Nazis until the USA started to publicly funnel weapons to them.

    2. Because of the way the Haaretz article self-censors you have to read between the lines to realize the “militias” discussed include Azov. Read it.
      And not just this:

The oligarch’s opponents have accused him of using violence, intimidation and coercion, similar methods to those he has been accused previously of using in some of his business dealings, especially in the takeovers of companies. These included accusations of sending his own club-wielding security people to occupy factories and mines in Ukraine after company owners tried to block his maneuvers. During a legal dispute in 2006, over control of a mining company (which Kolomoisky and his partners won), a judge in London observed that he had “a reputation of having sought to take control of a company at gunpoint in Ukraine.”
      —-
The foundations of Kolomoisky’s business empire were laid in the wild days following the disintegration of the Former Soviet Union, when the soon-to-be oligarchs scrambled to snap up dilapidated state factories and entire industrial, mining and energy sectors at bargain-basement prices. His operations as governor are not just an act of patriotism to preserve Ukrainian independence, says a local economist, speaking anonymously. “It is also about preserving his and his partners’ business interests. If the separatists had taken the region, he would have lost most of his holdings.” In the wake of the revolution and the crisis between Russia and Ukraine, the country is receiving billions in aid from Western powers, with Privat Group expected to be at the center of any financial action.

There is gas/oil in the Donbas — big surprise (snark).
      —-
Kolomoisky funded Zelensky’s presidential race. He funds militias including Azov.

Privat Empire: What Does Oligarch Ihor Kolomoisky Own in Ukraine?

      https://en.hromadske.ua/posts/privat-empire-what-does-oligarch-ihor-kolomoisky-own-in-ukraine

      Read more than this:

Kolomoisky and Privat Group also suffered significant losses from the annexation of Crimea. Russia “nationalized” 87 entities and the hotel and construction business, as well as a network of gas stations and a petroleum depot suffered. According to the decision of the Hague court, Russia must pay $159 million in compensation to the companies of Privat Group. Although Kolomoisky estimates his losses in Crimea to be at two billion dollars.

However, Kolomoisky has managed to retain a considerable tourist asset – the ski resort Bukovel.

This thug oligarch is crucial to understanding the conflict in Ukraine.

  7. “Shitlibs” and “foam-brained” are now in my vocabulary.

Love your raging disdain for lefty antiwar hypocrisy, or maybe blindness. I have a lot of Ukrainian flags in the hood and I want to shake these people and explain to them they’re effectively cheering for pointless open ended war. I’ve been thinking I’ll take photos of all the flags and the next time the US goes to kicking the bejesus out of some hapless little country for no good reason I’ll go door to door inviting all the flag people to an antiwar protest, ask them to bring their Ukrainian flags and I’ll bring some for whatever country we’re bombing.

On Syria and Ukraine, the only thing changed in Russia’s fairytale “RESCUE/PROTECT FROM” justification playbook is the word “terrorist” replaced by “Nazi”.

    1. nazis are terrorists too. did you not know that? how did you not know that?

    2. Ordinary "westerner" Avatar
      Ordinary “westerner”

Of course there’s overlap between Nazis & terrorists. Point is propaganda framing, ie viral language used – with Syria it was all “terrorists”; with Ukraine it’s “Nazis”.

    3. And actual guys with swastika tattoos and wolfsangel patches. You can find many videos on Bitchute taken by Chechens fighting in Donbass of the piles of tattooed nazi corpses they are making there. Russia has lists of named Azov members wanted for terror attacks on civilians these past eight years and are holding the ones they take alive for trial. There will be some revelations down the road, but our MSM will say they are lies too.

And by the way, some of the guys arrested in connection with the Charlottesville riot received training from the Ukraine Nazis. Here’s the 2018 FBI indictment https://www.courthousenews.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/RAM-rioting-Rundo-et-al-COMPLAINT133873.pdf

I don’t think anyone needs to be surprised that the CIA is funding and training nazis to kill Russians in Ukraine, as it funded and trained the Taliban and Al Qaeda to kill Russians in Afghanistan, and ISIS to kill Russians in Syria.

  9. “By the time you got to the first Bush administration, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, they came out with a national defense policy and strategic policy. What they basically said is that we’re going to have wars against what they called much weaker enemies and these have to be carried out quickly and decisively or else there will be embarrassment—a way of saying that popular reaction is going to set in. And that’s the way it’s been. It’s not pretty, but it’s some kind of constraint.”

Indeed. Many political bloggers hide the fact they’re motivated by a hatred of generalised “liberals” (or “shitlibs”). But Caitlin is refreshingly open about this.

  12. I’d say he is probably an “MRA,” (Men’s Rights Activist) those who mansplain why men are so mistreated.

  13. 10% of UK murders are committed by the adult children upon their parents, but I think that is a gross under estimate, representing only those who get caught, there are many ways to kill. After some observation I believe that not only are most people are capable of murder but that in fact they actually do, most of them, kill their parents and others. We should perhaps try being more objective and recognize that we are for the most part a disgusting species. It is as the Biktarvy ad says, “Love who you are.” We are all highly disposable and someday we too will become someone else’s meal.

  14. “It doesn’t need to be this way. There’s no legitimate reason major powers need to compete with each other and wave armageddon weapons at each other and try to dominate each other. We can just all collaborate toward the greater good of everyone.”

Propagandists promote a cognitive frame for war that linguists have identified & labelled as “The fairytale of the just war”. In the case of Iraq (2003), it was that America was RESCUING Iraq (and the rest of the world) from a dangerous tyrant (Saddam Hussein). In the case of Russia, it’s that they’re RESCUING Ukraine from a bunch of Nazis (or biolabs or whatever). The point is to establish a simple causal, motivational narrative in favour of war. And it seems to work. But the motive isn’t RESCUE in either case. The adults here hopefully will see this – we don’t believe in fairytales any more.

    1. The ‘just’ war is being promoted by the US, by the same people who started the Iraq war, and it ultimately leads to a war with Russia, which ultimately leads to a nuclear war. Russia has grounds for this invasion, as it believes that it has an obligation to protect ethnic Russians in Ukraine, who actually have been victimized by insane Nazi ideologues, and this has been going on for 8 years, in case you haven’t been paying attention.

      1. Ordinary "westerner" Avatar
        Ordinary “westerner”

Frankly, I don’t believe the Russian state’s fairytale justifications for war any more than I believe the US’s fairytales. Not for one second. If you’ve been paying attention, you should trust neither. You seem to have fallen for the RESCUE (ie “protect”) narrative in the case of Russia. Months of aggressive destruction of a nation’s infrastructure, with a huge civilian death count and masses of refugees and orphans, etc, is an odd way to RESCUE/PROTECT. No more believable than US’s narrative of RESCUING/LIBERATING Iraq.

        1. so you know war criminals run the us. that’s good. the main motivation for Russia reacting to the US aggression is to protect itself natch. not hard to understand.

          1. @Pretzelattack,

For a blog that supposedly attracts thinkers who aren’t taken in my “us and them” arguments, there are a depressingly large number of commentators who clearly subscribe to the “it’s all the US’s fault” viewpoint.

Let’s be clear – no-one made Russia invade Ukraine. If you didn’t support the US invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq, then you shouldn’t support, or believe in, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Period. That’s it.

It’s entirely possible for *both* acts to be wrong. The US shouldn’t have invaded Afghanistan and Iraq, nor should Russia have invaded Ukraine. Simply because the US is imperialist and throws its weight around, doesn’t excuse other countries doing the same thing.

Glenn Greenwald: Former Intelligence Officials, Citing Russia, Say Big Tech Monopoly Power is Vital to National Security

A group of former intelligence and national security officials on Monday issued a jointly signed letter warning that pending legislative attempts to restrict or break up the power of Big Tech monopolies — Facebook, Google, and Amazon — would jeopardize national security because, they argue, their centralized censorship power is crucial to advancing U.S. foreign policy... several of these officials are themselves leading disinformation agents: many were the same former intelligence officials who signed the now-infamous-and-debunked pre-election letter fraudulently claiming that the authentic Hunter Biden emails had the “hallmarks” of Russia disinformation……The ostensible purpose of this new letter is to insist that Big Tech monopoly power is vital to U.S. national security — because it is necessary for them to censor “disinformation” from the internet, especially now with the grave Russian threat reflected by the war in Ukraine — and they thus demand that the anti-Big-Tech bills first be reviewed not only by the Judiciary and Antitrust Committees, but also the national security committees where they wield power and influence…..Big Tech and the U.S. security state are in a virtually complete union, with all sorts of overlapping, mutual financial interests….Many of the key tech monopolies — such as Google and Amazon — routinely seek and obtain highly lucrative contracts with the U.S. security state, including both the CIA and NSA… https://greenwald.substack.com/p/former-intelligence-officials-citing?s=w

    1. “National Security” – can’t we put this overused excuse for “doing whatever we want to do” to rest?

Whenever I see the words “National Security,” I know I’m going to get screwed.

  17. If you haven’t read it, take a look at Chomsky’s “Who Rules the World?” It’s useful in putting things in perspective. I would add that the Corporate Owned News (CON) is an instrument of the wealthy that is mostly responsible for the brainwashing. I have friends and acquaintances who literally parrot what comes out of the CON, as though they have no independent thoughts about anything. I just wish everyone would boycott the CON, and Facebook and Twitter while they are at it.

    1. Chomsky? You mean that octogenarian who wants to lock up anyone whose own intelligences says not to participate in experimental gene therapy? You mean that scholar who considers investigation into the official narrative of the events of September 11, 2001 a waste of time?
Not too interested in his POV. But thanks ?.

      1. Nonagenarian actually. He’s pushing 94. I also heard him say that Kennedy was a hawk on Vietnam and that he might have been killed by a jealous husband. So old Noam is definitely the poster child of Gospel truth – i.e. unadulterated bullshit about a guy born out of wedlock walking on water and improvising outdoor fast food services every time he had something to say about the father figure he’d created out of his childhood frustration that it took him thirty years to vent.

        1. Kennedy was a hawk on Vietnam. He also took the world the closest is has yet been to nuclear war, cause he wanted to look like a tough anti commie, and then he negotiated a truce that allowed him to look like a tough anti commie by hiding the fact that there was a mutual withdrawal of nukes from Turkey and Cuba. . all the fairy tale bullshit people have swallowed about this war hawk, it’s the same horseshit shoved down our throat about Obama decades later, the “Nobel Peace Prize winner”. we don’t know who killed him, but we know it wasn’t somebody that wanted to prevent world peace because Kennedy was at the heart of that darkness. sure pal, second term Kennedy was going to shut down the Empire, just like second term Obama was.

      2. Chomsky isn’t alone, though. People I still admire, Hedges, Greenwald, Dore, the hardhitting journos at the Grayzone, and quite a few others, can’t deal with it either.
It seems no one can, really. 9/11 is tough action. If you have a forum of a certain size, and you broach the subject in such a way that it crosses a critical threshold, you will be disappeared within a matter of days. That is a conclusion I reached about a decade ago, and everyday since, watching our best and brightest cower in abject fear to even mention, let alone seriously entertain, any aspect of the 9/11 irregularities,* has just reinforced that conclusion.
*Aka miracles and longshots. By my count, there were dozens of former and hundreds of the latter, all happening or coming through within a nine hour span.
Jimmy Dore and Max Blumenthal brought one of the 9/11 miracles up a couple days ago, the miracle of the Mohamed Atta passport, the one that floated out of the North Tower fireball to land in pristine condition on a New York City street, 99 floors below.
It was weird. They both gave each other a look, as if to say, that’s about as far as we can go with this and survive to see the weekend, and they immediately dropped the subject.
The total batshit insanity we are seeing now, in our media, in our government, at every level of our society, is a natural and predictable outgrowth of our inability to deal with 9/11.
9/11 was the most important event in human history, and nothing even comes close in my opinion, because I believe that once an intelligent species makes a calculated decision to dispense with reality, it is not long for this universe.

        1. There were others. Spanish American war, Pearl harbor, kennedy assassination, WMD in Iraq, chemical attacks in Syria. Then lets go back to lincoln assassination. These are all storylines grown and hatched in the US intelligence agencies. History is full of 9/11s. We just got up close and personal with 9/11 so it seems like a big deal.

  18. While we just see the final outcome, Russia, China and the US have been in a financial and commodity war for some time. They are fighting over control of the worlds resources. That is the sole reason Russia has always been the enemy of the US. They have an abundance of natural resources that the US wants badly. Do you think the US would have gone into the middle east if there was no oil. China has been stockpiling metals, grains, etc for years. Both Russia and China are divesting themselves of dollars and buying gold for some years now. This is just the final stages of a war that started years ago.

    1. Russia has not “always” been the enemy of the United States. Read some history.

      1. An example please and dont cite WW2. At best they were strange bedfellows. Russia has definitely been the enemy since the US moved onto the world stage.

  19. ‘“All of this is ancient history.  Democracy doesn’t work anymore, we need ______.”  Fill in the blank, I dare you.  Because your personal psychology’s premise is that you know what needs to be done but can’t do what needs to be done, you know better but can’t do better, so what’s going in that blank that you’re not even aware you want?  A tyranny.  There are no other choices.  “No, not a tyranny, I just want a government above populist pressures, one that has all the power, whatever it does is just, it acts in the best interest of its people.”  That used to be called a Dad.  Sometimes it takes 2500 years, but the repressed always returns.’

      1. Like Leopold II of Belgium who is responsible for the death of about 10 million Congolese between 1885 and 1908, which beats even the US and Nato and matches WWI and the Russian Civil War?

        1. Yes, Yes. We need a king.

I bet this is the basis for how the war propaganda works.

I hate the shitlibs so much that I plan to wear a Trump 2024 hat around them just to piss them off.

Just to be clear, I have never voted for a Republican, and haven’t voted for a Democrat for decades. I didn’t leave them, they left me (long before I realized how faithless they are) .

For all the stuff I hate Trump for, while Democrats were getting a big hate on for Russia at least Trump met with Putin, and what could be more important now than establishing verbal communication to stop the progression toward mutual nuclear annihilation?

All the promises made by Democrats are worthless, and will be even more worthless in a post nuclear holocaust world.

Hate Trump all you want but its going to be your shitlib fat in the fire if you don’t live up to your faithless promise not to invade the mutually agreed upon buffer zone east of Germany toward Russia.

    1. They should be called Democrites really, not in reference to the pre-Socratic philosopher who formulated an atomic theory of the universe but as a portmanteau made of democrat and hypocrite. Of course, if they get us into a nuclear war, the reference to Democritus would be an additional incentive.

      1. Obviously we don’t know where anyone reading this lives. Here in the USA, I like to call them “Republicans with D’s by their name.” Right-wing jerks like Hillary the Hawk and good ol’ Lock ’em Up Joe.

Many ‘followers’ of the science/tech/engineering various pages (popular mechanics for example) keep posting that they didn’t follow the page for politics, but more to ignore/escape political bullshit. They want proven/functioning science. They are even posting lots more pseudo science, like alien/ufo crap, since the US Military started to try and make it more mainstream. Project Bluebeam (faked alien invasion by the MIC) seems to be a possibility with all this UFO crap they keep posting.

    https://www.zerohedge.com/political/cnn-shut-down-one-month-after-launch
Of course the article says they had “lured talents like Chris Wallace”, which tells a lot about what they consider talent – if we compare him to Glenn Greenwald for instance who’s the poster boy of journalistic talent.
Personally, I find it difficult to understand how anybody can watch Chris Wallace, with his crooked grins directly reflecting his convoluted mind and low IQ, unless they’re strapped to a chair like Alex in Clockwork Orange, with clips forcing their eyelids to keep their eyes open. Paying for it has to include some form of masochism.
And then people who get big checks to promote establishment propaganda wonder why it doesn’t work. I’m asking you…

      1. Last time I checked, making people watch Chris Wallace was condemned by the Geneva Convention and strictly prohibited in Guantanamo and other CIA black sites, out of humanitarian concern, as an alternative to waterboarding in case of drought.

  29. The use of the term “shitlibs” bars access to the moral high ground this post purports to occupy. The only way forward is to struggle to love our enemies, to change their hearts and minds by first changing ours. “Shitlibs” moves backwards on both fronts.

    1. Carolyn L Zaremba Avatar
      Carolyn L Zaremba

On the contrary. Referring to shitlibs as shitlibs is an accurate description of a certain class of people, the pseudo-left. They pretend to be “progressive” while supporting the capitalist system and trying to get people in the U.S. to support the Democrats, a party equally in thrall to the weapons manufacturers as the Republicans. Love thy enemy? Are you insane? That’s like the Democrats referring to the Republicans who tried to kill them on January 6, 2021 as “colleagues”.

      1. Loving your enemies entails recognizing that you have them, along with wanting and working to change them. I join you in recognizing our enemies but refuse to become like them by hating them. “Shitlibs” sounds too much like the language of hate. Shouldn’t we strive to be better than that?

    2. When someone shows you who they are, believe them.

    3. “The only way forward is to struggle to love our enemies, to change their hearts and minds by first changing ours.”

      That’s a good idea.

You seem to know how to be on good terms with the shitlibs, so tell them in your own respectable way they need to stop demonizing Russia and escalating the tension.

Start by telling the shitlibs to tone down the anti-Putin rhetoric so they and we can get off the high alert nuke status.

I’ll be waiting to see the results of your smooth talking verbal magic.

      1. The above is directed to the polite Newton Finn

      2. I know of no “smooth talking verbal magic.” I hate the hateful rhetoric about Putin and Russia as much as you do. But I must constantly work on myself so that I don’t come to hate the human beings who propagate or parrot this rhetoric. How can I claim to hate hatred if I allow myself to succumb to it on the personal level? THIS has been the fatal flaw in the left since its inception, which helps to explain why the left has long been famous for eating its own.

        1. Don’t beat yourself up, Newton.

Hatred is not the same thing as a healthy expression of anger in response to an injustice.

          1. Well said! Bruce Lee always insists that you must not hate your enemy while you beat him to a pulp and finally break his neck because hatred is a passion that blinds you and impairs your efficacity as a fighter :o)

    4. Shitlibs is hilarious. I call them the “reactionary left.” Same thing.

  30. I love your commentary but I can’t get on board with getting angry and yelling at my fellow human beings for acting in stupid ways. If my brother started acting like a “shit-lib” I wouldn’t hate him. And all men are my brothers. So I won’t be sharing things like this.

Caitlin hyper-generalises about “westerners” in her first paragraph, just as she hyper-generalises about “liberals” (“shitlibs”) in her title. Millions of “westerners” here in the UK, including leftists, conservatives and “shitlibs” opposed the invasion of Iraq, the UK’s role in it, and highlighted the mass slaughter of civilians it led to.

So it’s not an either/or issue. One can be opposed to the massacre of Ukrainians by the Russian state AND one can be opposed to the massacre of civilians by western powers. Millions of ordinary “westerners” (and “liberals”, “leftists”, even some “conservatives”) take that position of opposition.

Stop making it a black-and-white idiot-polemic against generalised “westerners” (or “liberals”).

And, incidentally, one can support the Palestinian resistance without being labelled pro-war, just as one SHOULD be able to support the Ukrainian resistance without being (stupidly) labelled pro-war.

The Ukrainians are NAZIS. The puppet government installed after the U.S.-supported coup in 2014 contains out and out Nazis: hyper-nationalist killers. And then there is the Azov Battalion, and Svoboda, and the worshippers of Stepan Bandera, a man who helped Adolf Hitler murder Jews, Roma, socialists and slavs. The Ukrainian government worships this man. You are supporting fucking Nazis.

      1. Slow down, Ukrainians are also fighting and dying to stop the fascists!

      2. Ordinary "westerner" Avatar

Carolyn, you sound like an idiot: “The Ukrainians are NAZIS”. The Ukrainian population is 44 million. Their popular president, Zelensky, is Jewish. There are some Nazis in Wimbledon, and some scattered all over England – that doesn’t make UK a Nazi country. You’re spouting the stupidest form of Kremlin propaganda, without any sceptical filter. Some Kremlin messaging is relatively sophisticated and contains truth. But not what you’re spouting, which is the kind aimed at those of low intelligence. I genuinely feel sorry for you.

        1. She specifies precisely who the Nazis are in the larger Ukrainian camp. And you can’t say they don’t constitute the majority or at least the dominant force within that puppet government accepting billions in weapons, military intel, financial aid and encouragement to conduct genocidal war from the warmongering US administration in their attempt to suppress the Russian ethnic faction in the country of Ukraine, who constitute a very large (close to equal) minority with the same human rights as your beloved Ukies claim. So, cut the crap, you knew exactly what she meant and you should know exactly what all of the “Ukrainian” provocations have been leading to this conflict, mostly at the bidding of the US government which orchestrated this whole war even if they won’t directly participate because they prefer that their “proxies” suffer all the consequences. These guys are not just wanna-be “neo-Nazis” either. They lay claim to descent directly from Stepan Bandera, one of the many willing Ukrainian tools of Adolf Hitler in WWII responsible for killing untold numbers of Jews, Poles, and other peoples not a part of his master race. You picked the wrong side, pal, the racist butchers not the freedom fighters. Keep speaking the truth, Carolyn.

Russia’s brutal imperialist invasion is actually a humanitarian mission to save Ukraine from a bunch of Nazis!! It’s a nice, simple narrative, with a few supporting facts (like all good propaganda). I might even belief it if I didn’t have access to my brainstem.

          1. Here’s a perfect example. When I read Ordinary Westerner’s comment, my gut level reaction was to hate not only what he said but HIM. I refuse to let myself go there, because it’s precisely this knee-jerk binary hatred, endlessly multiplying and ever more deeply dividing us, that’s brought us to the place where we can no longer talk to–not to mention, with—each other. The Ukrainians, however are not without some measure of blame for finding themselves this predicament. A certain measure of infantile naivete is required to fall so face forward into this mess between America and America’s enemy du jour.
