Listen to a reading of this article:

You’re not jaded; everything really is just as phony and vapid as it looks.

I say this because if you are reading this it’s likely the result of a personal quest for truth which has led to a gradual peeling away of the lies our society is made of. Your eyes probably found this text because you’re the sort of person who’s been trying to make sense of the world in a sea of propaganda and deception, which often results in a growing disgust not just with the power structures which oppress and tyrannize humanity, but with our entire civilization.

This experience is very common for people like yourself, and it’s very common because it arises from a clear perception of reality. From the very beginning human civilization has been built around serving the interests of the powerful, from religion to philosophy to the arts to law. As the world has gotten smaller and it’s become possible to artificially manufacture culture with mass-distributed media, this has only become more the case.

That’s why the more you learn about the world, the more fake and stupid our civilization looks. It’s because it is fake and stupid. Our news, our entertainment, our jobs, our legal systems, our political systems, our education systems, our financial, monetary, economic and commercial systems; the way our entire civilization is structured and organized has nothing to do with what’s true and good and everything to do with keeping human organisms compliantly turning the gears of capitalism and empire.

Mainstream culture is one giant psyop geared toward keeping people fueling the oppression machine. Not because of some grand conspiracy (though there’s plenty of that too), but because the manufacturers of culture have a vested interest in preserving our unwholesome status quo. The media are owned by plutocrats who have an interest in making sure everything they’re putting out sustains the imperial status quo upon which their kingdoms are built. The Pentagon has more influence over Hollywood than people like you or I ever will.

Things get elevated to mainstream levels of attention and influence by the people with the wealth and power to elevate them, and they’re always going to elevate things which serve their interests by manufacturing consent for the status quo their wealth and power are premised upon, not things which harm their interests like material that expands class consciousness or highlights the depravity of the US-centralized empire.

So mainstream culture presents a fraudulent image of reality. It’s written into the code of everything that’s mass produced — not just in Prager University lectures on the evils of socialism or propagandistic news stories about weapons of mass destruction, but in sitcoms, in advertisements, in clothing brands, in pop music, in textbooks, in trends. When it’s not constant messaging that capitalism is totally working and the world is ordered in a more or less sane and truth-based way, it’s manipulations designed to shape our values and measures of self-worth to make us into better gear-turners.

If you’re noticing this ubiquitous fraudulence, it’s not because you’re becoming distant from the rest of society, it’s because you’re becoming more intimate with it. You’re getting in real close, so close you can see the nuts and bolts of it, see how the sausage is made.

So if this is happening to you, don’t worry. You’re not turning into some kind of jaded hipster who’s too cool for what everyone else is into, you’re just seeing the bullshit for what it is. Sure a rejection of mainstream culture can just be pure ego-driven “look at me I’m so special” crap, but it’s also what happens when you sincerely move in for a closer look at the mass-scale psychological fabric of human civilization.

This is what Terence McKenna was talking about when he said “The cost of sanity in this society is a certain level of alienation.” And it’s what Jiddu Krishnamurti was pointing at when he said “It is no measure of health to be well-adjusted to a profoundly sick society.” A lucid perception of reality today will necessarily be accompanied by the ever-present smell of bullshit.

And that’s not your fault. It’s not your fault that you were born into this world where so much of everything is fake and stupid. So be gentle with yourself in your sense of alienation. And take comfort in knowing that others see what you’re seeing too.

But mainly learn to take comfort in the fact that, just underneath the logos and screens and suburbs and Hollywood actors pretending to be people, reality is roaring. There’s a whole world of wonder and authenticity shining ferociously from just beneath the surface. It’s just got nothing to do with the artificial culture that’s been mass-produced by the powerful and funneled into our minds.

Underneath all the social engineering and power-serving control mechanisms, there’s a whole life of raw terrestriality that is much, much older and much, much stronger than the lies of the machine. You can see it crackling everywhere, even in the densest parts of the matrix.

You can see it in the sky. You can see it in the bushes and the pigeons. But you can also see it in the bus billboards and skyscrapers, in the flashing signs and blaring screens. And you can see it in the giant-brained bipedal primates you’re surrounded by each day, hiding just behind the dance of imperial fraudulence in their heads. You can see it even in those who are most asleep at the wheel, the most enslaved to the mind viruses of the machine, if you look. Once you learn to see it, you can observe nature winking at you even from inside the most rage-faced pundits and most self-absorbed social natterers. It’s there.

In reality this sense of alienation is just an awkward transition phase between buying into the imperial dreamworld and a deep, deep intimacy with humanity as it really is beneath all the obnoxious programming. Beyond the revulsion at the phony facepuppets, something ancient, authentic, and exuberant is dancing. And it is more real and more true than our disgust with this civilization.

Look closer and you see the fraudulence. Look even closer and you see what’s real. Your sense of alienation is entirely valid and based in truth, but we’re not meant to stay there. Truth beckons us forward. Truth is beckoning us all forward. And these mind cages they have built for us aren’t real enough to hold us in for much longer.

  1. Caitlin, just discovered your site. Just read this. Love your words so much. I was born in Nepal, but my fake, phony father immigrated to Ohio, where I was surrounded by gray parking lots and billboards and Walmarts.

He took me away from my beautiful country at the age of 3 just to force me into a gray, psychotic prison society – the densest areas of the matrix.

I’ve been longing for that deep intimacy and beauty and creativity you speak of. I’ve always known that this world is meant to be so much more than this. I mourn for native american culture.

I’d love to know why you’re so optimistic that these cages won’t hold us for longer. Why do you say so? I thirst for an answer.

(Also, screw the haters who hit you with snide, sarcastic comments.)

  2. I made $30,030 in just 5 weeks working part-time right from my apartment. When I lost my last business I got tired right away and luckily I found Sthis jobs online and with that I am able to start reaping lots right through my house. 3. The world is a big lie and you belong to the one exclusive community who sees through all of it… Sure. Maybe you should consider to see someone.

    1. belonging to a community is fun. why don’t you join? it’s not that exclusive. everyone’s free to join the conversation. sometimes there’s even disagreements.

      1. Excellent work,. I like your work since I currently make over $46K a month by only engaging in legitimate online activity! I am aware that you are now earning a significant sum of cd05 money online with just $38K these are simple operational tasks.

        1. Excellent suggestion and diplomacy Martin! Due to your amiable/constructive comment to Avy 115, I’m prepared to buy a double dip of peach ice-cream from you, while we’re loitering among penguins in the frigid Antarctic.
Avy115, you stated that Martin does excellent work. Now, I may be wrong, but I’ll speculate that your comment is spurious at best. Right? Aren’t you really on this platform because it’s free advertising for your economic venture? You’re really just fishing for leads, right? It’s my conjecture, but this seems a bad look for you. Most of the individuals on this site have many miles on the odometer; that is, they are sincerely in search of anti-dystopian outcomes, and they are contributing messages that attempt to foster that. Please consider exporting your enterprise to another, more appropriate platform. Is that fair?
Lastly, and I hope this is not an inadvertent power-of-suggestion to you, but I predict your response to me, if any, will emulate your response to Martin (e.g.-vain). If, however, you should dissuade yourself from responding to me…thank you; as I find your frequent attempts at closing an annoying inconvenience.

    1. Power is not an illusion. It is very real and comes with force and effect.
Perhaps what is meant is that it has a half life. As in – wars themselves may be the last real democratic arrangement in the affairs of states.

Humanity has been screened to death, to the point where even art is all screen related.

Even “smart” people in the culture are now monkey morons, completely sucking on the tit of Star Wars, Taylor Swift, some band that was protopunk and played at Max’s Kansas City in the early 70s, baseball stats, etc. The funniest thing about ‘hipsters’ was that they were trying to be hip at all, not that they really appreciated anything that was truly alternative. If they were alternative and discerning, they might be talking about Chopin, not some garage band, or Indian sarangi ragas played by Ram Narayan and Anindo Chatergee (sp? I’m not Indian).

Here in the glorious 21st, art is so screen-fed that we are now closing on one-quarter of the century gone by where you cannot name a single household name painter, poet, sculptor, architect, guitarist (!), pianist, composer, conductor, novelist, etc, that is purely of the 21st. Hunter Biden, GW Bush, and Banksy are the most famous painters, I think. The ruling classes see artists as troublesome, and a little superior, like the elves in LoTR. Beautiful, superior, and doomed. Now we have famous tech moguls, politicians, pop stars that get shoveled at you (have you heard? Taylor has a new lipstick color!), and random rich weirdos like the Kardashians.

It is all fake. That’s why the centrists are morons, even with their degrees and specialties and money. They buy massively into pop culture at all times.

    1. It’s not rocket science that the overarching tone of the epoch is fascism (corporation-led authoritarian policies) and fascism was best summed up by Joseph Goebbels when he famously said: “When I hear the word ‘culture’, I draw my revolver”.

Yeah. I don’t even know what the hell this stuff is today. Speer denounced his own architectural plans for Hitler’s great Berlin mega-Roman boulevard, leading to a truly huge domed building, which never saw fruition. It’s grotesquely megalomaniacal, but I swear the modern capitalists make Hitler himself look like Michelangelo, when one considers a modern box store like Walmart, injury lawyer billboards, and Snickers wrappers and McDonald’s cups all over the ground (free advertising, don’t ya know).

And that is no endorsement of the evil Austrian!

My sinking feeling is that the elites are so vapid that they’ve convinced themselves they’re the true art appreciators. But if they hoard beauty and fine arts while they build a world that largely looks and behaves like a trashy Hell? Yeah, they don’t appreciate art at all. They just lie to themselves to feel elevated, like the evil nouveau riche trash they are.

  9. I was 17 yrs old in 1979 when my friend and I left Fremantle to head 1700 klms North to Karratha in an old Holden. After arriving in Karratha I started working for Jennings who were building houses in Roebourne, 40 klms further North. My job was to drive a small truck to Roebourne delivering building materials to the housing sites. While unloading in Roebourne one day the Foreperson arrived in his Ute, and said, jump in I will take you down the road and show you the Houses we built last year. The first house we came to had the doors removed and also timber from the veranda floors. The house itself was empty. In the front yard three Elder Aboriginal Women were sitting on mattresses in a circle around a fire while 2 children were playing. It was 8 o’clock in the morning and my most vivid memory is how content and peaceful the Women looked as the children played and laughed. So amongst all the fake and stupid shit I was lucky that day to get a glimpse of true contentment.

  12. Thank you, Caitlin.

Your words today are like God speaking to me through you, comforting and calming the storm inside me. I actually found balance and harmony some time ago, but today erupted for a moment – bitterness inside from the primitivism of the human race – how people don’t love themselves, don’t appreciate or respect themselves. They invented kings and queens for themselves and worship them, not realizing that they themselves have put on the chains of slavery, humiliated themselves, exalting not the most worthy, self-proclaimed ones over themselves. I cannot call this part of humanity anything other than a biomass in need of a leader. And it would be okay if it were a leader among equals, worthy of being called Man.
I have long seen Hell on this Earth, the complete degradation of mankind, and the unwillingness of ordinary people to wake up, to change, to evolve into a God-like Man, in His image and likeness.
The only way out of this is to build our own world in the midst of this darkness, to go our own way, focusing on our soul’s mission. Our time is limited here.
    Thank you for the light.

He who rejects change is the architect of decay. The only human institution which rejects progress is the cemetery. -Harold Wilson (1916-1995)

    1. In terms of bombing technology, Hiroshima was definitely a progress. I’m having a hard time distinguishing it from a cemetery though…

      1. Yes, atomic bomb creation can be thought of as technical progression; but the military complex hastily usurps these advancements for their selfish, pernicious objectives.
The quote themes overwhelmingly suggested amenability to change; however, meaningful progressive change is repressed in the U.S. This is due to the intoxicating effect of money, power, and corruption/co-optioning (the goddamned bastards). One quote discussed that the resistance to change leads to decay; the U.S. is certainly devolving in that direction…unfortunately. I believe your remark was about the paradoxical relationship between the bomb development/technology and the cemetery. Well, isn’t it ironic that the very force we created (the A-Bomb), to seemingly protect ourselves, might just lead to the cemetery…ours?

        1. Food for thought indeed!

          1. Yes Pascal, it is. And if you accept Thucydides Trap, over a (500) year sampling, this gives the U.S. about a 75% chance of WWIII. Further, the U.S. has been at war for 93% of its existence; this fact suggests an increase in the likelihood of war. The Ruling-Class seems adamant about negotiations (with China, Russia, Iran, etc.) This is not 1990, and China and Russia have ascended economically/militarily/technologically. They’re a pair of implacable foes (they have an alliance) who will defend self-determination and sovereignty (e.g.-irresistible force vs. immovable object). If there is a silver lining, we can at least see the U.S. for what it is: a cabal of warmongering, psychopathic fraudsters. Maybe, just possibly, U.S. citizens can begin to see that the (2) party system (Repubs/Dems) could care-less about the American Working-Class, and only desires the maintenance of division/repression.

  17. The best thing to ever happen to a people living in a frozen bog in the Atlantic North was a ship to set sail far away from that sad frozen bog. But no. As soon as they saw America all what they were focused was to kill people living there. Same they did in Japan, China, India, Africa, Asia, Middle East. No people traveled more than the British ton conquer people happy and settled living their lives without the British King and a lot of crap sold in exchange for natural resources. All what they touched died. With all non due respect, fuck you Elizabeth.

    1. That’s not nice. The poor old girl was not responsible for all this. And she’s never been reported to be nasty to anybody.

      1. Perhaps you’d be better inspired directing your ire at the City of London (where the English sovereigns couldn’t go without permission of the Lord Mayor) and its bankers – one especially comes to mind -, their East India Company, Lord Palmerston, David Sassoon (co-responsible for the Opium wars), Winston Churchill (on various accounts), Cecil Rhodes and other warmongers and British supremacists, including various parliamentary figures. Just saying…

        1. Historical responsibility should be included in prosecution. Just to make sure all involved parts will not walk away with a single copper. No matter if the ancestors lived a thousand of years ago but the fortunes still generating huge profits for their descendants. That is a tough exemplary punishment to be set for the divine right to rule.

      2. Michael X probably wouldn’t agree with you. It was her pen and her pen alone that signed his death warrant. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_X You’ll find more of this and other most interesting nuggets by watching Heathcote Williams’ “Royal Babylon” https://youtu.be/xDvaxCU1aRk

        1. After reading the Wikipedia biography you posted, I guess there’s quite a few things Michael X and I wouldn’t have agreed upon, like burying people alive after stabbing them savagely.
Besides I haven’t found any mention that it was QE2’s “pen and her pen alone” that signed his death warrant.
I only watched a couple of minutes of the documentary because it’s more generally about the British royals for whom I couldn’t care less as a foreigner but it sounded like a gossipy affair and if you like that kind of stuff, I absolutely recommend to you David Icke’s take whereby QE2 regularly shapeshifted into a giant reptile and ate human flesh with grunts.
In any case, I prefer Russel Brand’s approach: she played the hand that she was dealt as well as she could have done.

  23. Civilisation is slavery. Never forget that this very word comes from a culture in which slavery was the basis of the economy and where people and beings of other species were slaughtered by the millions for entertainment. This culture was idolized by the aristocracy for centuries and then by most liberals such as George Washington. And of course Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Franco and friends. This wretched, deeply evil culture is the reason why this shithole is called the “west”.

  24. Excerpt:
That’s why the more you learn about the world, the more fake and stupid our civilization looks. It’s because it is fake and stupid. Our news, our entertainment, our jobs, our legal systems, our political systems, our education systems, our financial, monetary, economic and commercial systems; the way our entire civilization is structured and organized has nothing to do with what’s true and good and everything to do with keeping human organisms compliantly turning the gears of capitalism and empire (Our Entire Civilization Is Fake And Stupid-9/8/22-Caitlin Johnstone)

  25. World governments long term goal is to reduce world pooulations. Destroy food production, destroy energy sources, war, etc. It is obvious what is happening. Covid vaccines are designed for the same purpose. Reduce the population. A simple distrust of government is all you need to see what is happening.

    1. to see if a reduction of the population is taking place, imo you need to look around and see if there’s less people than the day or week before. if there’s less people every time you look, the population is probably reducing. those that remain can probably get more stuff (if they’re into that), but they’ll probably have to work more.

The author has more testosterone than many men. I have to be extremely unhappy and depressive to read such pieces. Most of time we have to act to live otherwise there is no reason to live powerless and surrounded by evil plutocrats controlling what we can and cannot do. Perhaps I’m just a coward who lack the balls to pull the trigger.

Ukraine war could have been totally avoided.
The result will be the division of the country, hundreds of thousands able bodied humans being unnecessarily killed and injured, with loss of productivity, chronic poverty, appropriation of fertile land and working industries by the oligarchs, and eventual Zelensky and company leaving the country, being killed or imprisoned.
Demilitarization and DeNazification of Ukraine will most likely happen.
February 24, 2022 was the beginning of the end of the Colonialism and Neocolonialism (Rules based Order). Today’s demise of the British crown personifying 500+ years of genocide is one of the signs one hopes.

    1. It’s infuriating, but this could have been avoided by doing nothing. Ukraine was fine the way it was, so was Yugoslavia.

      1. Unless you happened to be Russian speaking and/or living in the Donbas. In which case there was a good chance of eing “dead”.

        1. Not necessarily. You could also be shelled for years and/or tortured and disappeared as well as your family.

        2. Which is the very thing I am saying could have been avoided by doing nothing.

          1. There were 13,000 minimum killed between 2014 and January.
The Ukies had 200,000 troops lined up to finish the job.
            -Bogdan Boutkevitch:
“Ok, you ask me “How can this be happening?” Well, it happens because Donbass, in general, is not simply a region in a very depressed condition, it has got a whole number of problems, the biggest of which is that it is severely overpopulated with people nobody has any use for. Trust me I know perfectly well what I am saying.
If we take, for example, just the Donetsk oblast, there are approximately 4 million inhabitants, at least 1.5 million of which are superfluous. That’s what I mean: we don’t need to [try to] “understand” Donbass, we need to understand Ukrainian national interests.
Donbass must be exploited as a resource, which it is. I don’t claim to have a quick solution recipe, but the most important thing that must be done – no matter how cruel it may sound – is that there is a certain category of people that must be exterminated.”
Transcript: “It’s perfectly simple. You need to kill 1.5 million people in Donbass”

            The Russians saved them.

            1. Wasting your time. He’s impervious to logic. That’s what the jab does to you :o)

              1. We’re saying the same thing. I’m surprised a logical person couldn’t figure that out.

                1. I think you are talking with pascals evil twin.

      2. you mean back in 2014, americans shouldn’t have used the nazi’s to hijack the protests. (or prior, pouring in the 5 billion ‘democracy building’).

        1. Yes. I forgot that others don’t always follow current events.

          1. Replacing “doing nothing” with “the U.S. minding its own business” would have been clear. You also “forgot” to reconsider your comment/wording when it was misunderstood & chose to act like an obtuse ass instead of clearing it up.

  30. Annie Liebowitz is the Leni Rieffenstahl of our times.

    1. You saying Annie Liebowitz is the publicist for the criminal state???

    2. I thought it was Kathryn Bigelow? She’ll film anything put before her by the MIC.

  31. This essay should be taught in schools before that vibrant reality and life under the thumb of culture and dominator economics is snuffed out. The giant cockroaches of the future will find us in the fossil record and creationist cockroaches will deny cockroach science while beautiful cockroaches sell cockroach dreams. Get out of your head, the world is beautiful right now.

  32. There is so much good and bad news today, but I think the veil of secrets is lifting.

As delusions are shattering, more and more people are starting to open their minds to the profound nature of the actual dangers engulfing us. In the process the dons directing the COVID Mafioso are losing control of the dominant COVID narrative. The narrative’s embattled defenders are becoming increasingly desperate to divert public attention away from the scene of the COVID crimes.

In spite of the diversionary tactics, a growing constituency is coming to see that human predators, not the surprise invasion of some new type of germ, are the primary culprits driving the malaise that has been overtaking us. Our economy, our rights, our freedoms, our institutions, and increasingly our very lives and wellbeing are under attack as the COVID-19 power grab moves into new frontiers of subversive infiltration.

    1. Covid is real, that’s why Putin and the Russian military are still getting vaccinated against it. And Cuba. And Vietnam. And China. It’s not the mafia, it’s the civilized world.

      1. In an insane world, the sane man appears insane.

    2. It’s especially interesting to see how the right’s “CCP virus” is now morphing into a Fauci-funded US virus instead. Chair of the Covid-19 Lancet Commission Jeffrey Sachs’ recent comments didn’t help.
      https://geneticliteracyproject.org/2022/09/07/chair-of-the-lancets-covid-commission-jeffrey-sachs-believes-the-us-blocking-real-investigation-of-virus-origins/
Excerpt: “He believes that there is clear proof that the National Institute of Health and many members of the scientific community have been impeding a serious investigation of the origins of COVID-19 and deflecting attention away from the hypothesis that risky U.S.-supported research may have led to millions of deaths”. Oops…

      1. Economists are not virologists.

        1. I love this kind of “shoot the messenger” preposterous fallacies!
It always reminds me of the British critic who panned a play and was told by its author: “How dare you criticize my play when you have never been able to write one yourself?”
He replied: “Sir, I’ve never been able to lay an egg but I consider myself a better judge than a hen of the quality of an omelette”.
Chances are that economist (and more generally advisor on various topics) Jeffrey Sachs has been appointed by the prestigious medical journal The Lancet to that position – which doesn’t require any knowledge of virology but more investigative talents of the Sherlock Holmes garden variety – because they thought he was more qualified for it than a virologist – and might even have more integrity than a grant-hunting one. aka Big Pharma stooge.

          1. More qualified than a virologist? How do you know? Have you seen his medical degree? Read any books he wrote about virology? Should I suppose that you want Fauci to be in charge of the Treasury dept?

            1. Hopeless…

              1. You could have honestly said that your expert was not a virologist. You brought this on yourself.

        2. Deflecting from content once again. What matters here is what Sachs is saying. And, as chair of the commission, he is certainly in a qualified position to know of what he speaks. Follow the damn link, absorb the information, and then, if you choose, comment upon that. But no, your purpose here is to deflect and derail conversation about important content, isn’t it Johnny boy.

  33. From my estimation Human problems caused by other Humans, both historically and currently, are rooted in emotional insecurity, that results in adult irresponsibility, and protected by the application of hypocrisy.

The emotionally immature are also emotionally insecure, because they are not the masters of their own self.
It is a game of “divide and rule,” of the collective and individual Human Family, as well as the individual.

The individual is conditioned to not be the master of his own self. He becomes a 21st Century Schizoid Man, confused and divided within himself, seeking and imitating the delusional and whimsical fantasy thinking, as directed by the oppressors, such that he becomes oppressive to himself and others.

In other words, even if he sleeps by himself, he is still “sleeping with the enemy,” until he makes the decisions required, to embrace emotional maturity and adult responsibility, by eschewing the contradictions to hide his ill deeds with hypocrisy.

There are only 2 natural fears that any Humans has at birth. One is the fear of sudden loud noises and the other is sudden drops. All other fears are learned.
Even those two natural fears can be conquered and overridden, if one is resolved to be mindful.

The other acquired fears are obtained from the system, through caretakers, friends, family, and the indoctrination by way of entertainment and schooling, that discourage the real education obtained by actively thinking for ones. By educating one’s own self, so that one can courageously solve problems and provide remedies, which encourage one to be the best version of one’s own self in any given moment of his perceived existence, one becomes the master of that self, and one’ own mind.

Hypocrisy is a tool that conceals emotional immaturity and adult irresponsibility.

Emotional maturity and Adult responsibility determine the Quality of the Content of one’s Character and is rooted in ETHICS, NOT ETHNICS.
It is a matter of the thinking approaches, methods and processes applied to Living the Life.

The emotionally immature are fearful of scarcity and as such practice limited thinking that is not efficient, but seek expediency, and can often create more problems, that can be hidden by applying the tools of hypocrisy, to cover up their misdeeds and agenda.

Emotional immaturity undermines and Adult responsibility. Hypocrisy hides Adult irresponsibility and emotional immaturity.

Problems of oppression such as misery, mischief, mayhem and murder, suffered by Humans are caused by other Humans are rooted in the emotional immaturity and adult irresponsibility, hidden by hypocrisy. This is true for Humans collectively and individually

The emotionally mature are not fearful of scarcity, because they embrace abundance of resources, including thinking that solve problems efficiently. They are authentic in their actions which reflect their thinking processes and approaches.

The Human problems suffered by Humans and which result of actions by other Humans, are rooted in Emotional Immaturity and Adult Irresponsibility, which is concealed by using the tool of Hypocrisy.

This is true regarding any collective or individual interactions that involve Humans.

Emotionally mature, responsible adults value, produce, and practice justice, by consciously setting the best examples for children and other adults. They are committed to being masters of their own self so that they are the best versions of themselves in any given instant.

This requires ongoing critically reflective and introspective examination, investigation, and analysis of one’s thinking that interrogates and challenging the “how and why” of our thinking operates, and ways to improve that thinking, related to emotional maturity and adult responsibility.

The application Self-Reflection, is required for Self-Correction, that provides clarity for the proper Self-Direction.

Emotional maturity which embraces Adult responsibility, protects one from propaganda, peer pressure, and mental/emotional manipulations, that prevents Humans from being their own individual masters of their own self.

It also positions one’s thinking to analyze the agenda of the experimenters.

    1. Now here’s a piece of, what’s the word here? From Nature magazine in all it’s versions, an anti human perspective on life.
Childhood friendships between people of high and low socio-economic status are linked to economic mobility later in life. 2. Open vs Closed System Thinking Avatar
      Open vs Closed System Thinking

“The lust for power is not rooted in strength but in weakness. It is the expression of the inability of the individual self to stand alone and live. It is the desperate attempt to gain secondary strength where genuine strength is lacking.

The word power has a twofold meaning. One is the possession of power over somebody, the ability to dominate him; the other meaning is the possession of power to do something, to be able, to be potent. The latter meaning has nothing to do with domination; it expresses mastery in the sense of ability.”

But since people are, and always have been generally a bunch of weak-minded sheep, I lean toward a benevolent dictatorship, and I believe Caitlin Johnstone would be the best choice for leader. Not only do you completely get it, Ms, Johnstone, you say it better than anyone. Not kidding. Well, a little, since the odds are rather low.

If anyone chooses to read the above-mentioned article keep in mind that it was the US that brought the German Nazis to power and kept them in power throughout the entire war and that though Germany had concentration camps, they didn’t have any death camps. German and Polish Nazis were two different animals with totally different leadership’s.

    1. … like you’re a different species from another planet!

  37. So, Caitlin, can you weigh in on your view of “Putin’s Russia” as part of the fradulent or not-so-fradulent reality?

    1. You assume that moral judgments deserve recognition rather than dickpunching. Why?

    2. alas, seems like we’ll have to do without. what’s your take?

  38. Very nice piece by Caitlin, echoing Edward Bellamy’s point that all we have known, since hunter/gatherer days, has been one form or another of “the rule of the rich.” As I’ve said before, Bellamy (a late 19th Century American author of fiction) is the only thinker I have encountered in a lifetime of reading who not only diagnoses this immemorial malady but also offers a precise sequential cure as relevant today as when it was written. His two major works–“Looking Backward” and “Equality”–are free to read on the net. For those interested, perhaps the best place to start is the opening chapter of “Equality” where one encounters a stunning Socratic dialogue between capitalism and socialism, an interchange which touches all the bases and could, with minor adjustments, have been written yesterday. If it grabs you, read “Looking Backward” first and then return to “Equality.” The former is more entertaining, but the latter makes substantial improvements in the vision/plan.

  39. “The real hopeless victims of mental illness are to be found among those who appear to be most normal. Many of them are normal because they are so well adjusted to our mode of existence, because their human voice has been silenced so early in their lives, that they do not even struggle or suffer or develop symptoms as the neurotic does.” They are normal not in what may be called the absolute sense of the word; they are normal only in relation to a profoundly abnormal society. Their perfect adjustment to that abnormal society is a measure of their mental sickness. These millions of abnormally normal people, living without fuss in a society to which, if they were fully human beings, they ought not to be adjusted.” –
Aldous Huxley – Brave New World Revisited

“Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.”
“What the superior man seeks is in himself; what the small man seeks is in others.”
“If you look into your own heart, and you find nothing wrong there, what is there to worry about? What is there to fear?”

“Real education must ultimately be limited to men who insist on knowing, the rest is mere sheep herding.” ~
    Ezra Pound

    1. I also love that one by Aldous Huxley in Crome Yellow (11 years before Brave New World):
“The surest way to work up a crusade in favor of some good cause is to promise people they will have a chance of maltreating someone. To be able to destroy with good conscience, to be able to behave badly and call your bad behavior ‘righteous indignation’ — this is the height of psychological luxury, the most delicious of moral treats.”

      1. He and Orwell were brilliant and prescient. Much of what they wrote has come to pass.

“Under the relentless thrust of accelerating over-population and increasing over-organisation, and by means of ever more effective methods of mind-manipulation, the democracies will change their nature; the quaint old forms—elections, parliaments, Supreme Courts and all the rest—will remain. The underlying substance will be a new kind of non-violent totalitarianism. All the traditional names, all the hallowed slogans will remain exactly what they were in the good old days. Democracy and freedom will be the theme of every broadcast and editorial—but Democracy and freedom in a strictly Pickwickian sense. Meanwhile the ruling oligarchy and its highly trained elite of soldiers, policemen, thought-manufacturers and mind-manipulators will quietly run the show as they see fit.”
Aldous Huxley, Brave New World Revisited

Professor Ryan J. Barilleaux wrote that the defining features of an actual dystopia are “social regimentation, dehumanization, abuse of technology, state terror, a new class of rulers, propaganda instead of truth, inevitable totalitarianism, and the tragedy of the individual.”
“When combined, these features sketch the map of dystopia,”

The problem is that the West learned the tragedy of war and greed through the first half of the 20th century. The current West has no concept of horror. They will have to learn and it will not be pleasant.

  40. The context of the Kiev regime’s criminality can be easily and compellingly demonstrated by voluminous and unimpeachable evidence of its Nazi affiliations and of the hospitality extended by its foreign sponsors to hard-core World War II Nazi collaborators whose ideological progeny now constitute the regime’s backbone. There is abundant evidence that over a decades long period descendants of wartime Nazi helpers were groomed and kept in reserve to be subsequently sent en masse to Ukraine and installed in key positions after the 2014 Maidan coup.
And, this is what happened to the US, and these are the sort that I have to deal with constantly, because their behavior is identical, and their crimes similar.

    1. Not only in Ukraine and the US! Canadian deputy prime minister Chrystia Freeland, who called the truckers of the Freedom Convoy far right white supremacists as a reason for banning them from the banking system, was outed as the granddaughter of a Ukrainian nazi collaborator. She spent some time in Ukraine carrying out anti-Russian activities which makes one wonder who is notoriously anti-Russian in Ukraine while wearing swastikas and Wolfangels.

  43. @ Inna
About the dalai lama, I think he’s a captured soul, and part of the world manipulation scene. He doesn’t radiate light outward from his energetic field as one would expect from someone in his position. His energetic frequency does not represent truth. So I don’t think he is the real Buddhist leader that everyone thinks he is.

    1. I once sat through a speech by the guy, there was nothing especially good or bad about him. Just a frail old man who made the speech he always makes but looked confused and a little scared, like he was going on autopilot.

  44. Fantastic post, Caitlin, I’m so glad you wrote this and will share widely.

  45. And there I was, believing that it was only the inanimate that could be rendered fake!
The horror of what is, in living reality, is certainly not vapid; the challenge is in the seemingly insurmountable — ourselves.

    1. A little nitpicking… perhaps!
“That’s why the more you learn about the world, the more fake and stupid our civilization looks. It’s because it is fake and stupid. Our news, our entertainment, our jobs, our legal systems, our political systems, our education systems, our financial, monetary, economic and commercial systems; the way our entire civilization is structured and organized has nothing to do with what’s true and good and everything to do with keeping human organisms compliantly turning the gears of capitalism and empire.”
The aforementioned, in no uncertain terms, points out all that is bad.
Yet, unfortunately, at the same time, it is stating everything that is, in actuality, true!
The understanding of the word terms ‘true’ and ‘good’ are not necessarily mutually inclusive, IMO.
As the author has pointed out, many times, cognitive dissonance is one way we avoid seeing these truths.
Does a ‘human organism’ encapsulate the breadth and depth of the infinity in human consciousness?

  46. How very timely, because I was going to post this no matter what today’s theme was. The founder of Green Peace said not too long ago that Green Peace was hijacked a little while back and that it’s spewing all sorts of lies. An example is the story about the Polar bear extinction threat, a number of decades ago their numbers were around 5,000 now it’s closer to 50,000. The same is true of carbon dioxide; well, read the article your self if you care.

      1. Besides, he knows what he’s talking about, which is the absolute crime by today’s standard. Decent folks are only supposed to parrot slogans and talking points. Thinking for oneself is a sure sign that one is on the nazi slippery slope. What? Like the Ukies? No… that’s different. The Ukronazis are good guys (TM) because they’re backed by the president of the United State who’s the ultimate good guy (TM) now that God has stepped down and closed his Twitter account :o)

        1. Plus there’s the word “peace” in Greenpeace, which is a racial slur and will soon be banned, to be replaced by “the p-word” upon laudable intervention by the MIC, the CIA, the NED and other notable philanthropic organizations.

    2. This Global Research article really is just as phony and vapid as it looks.

The doofus who wrote this assumes that there is only one cause of climate change, that being CO2.

Wendell Berry wrote years ago in his Crisis of Character, about the Sierra Club being supported by the fossil fuel and related industries it supposedly opposes.

Climate change is real even if corporate interests try to suppress that information.

Mitigation of climate change will not reverse it, it will only slow the increases of its causation.

Too many crooks in both the pro and against camps, but that doesn’t change the underlying physics.

      https://thegrayzone.com/2020/09/07/green-billionaires-planet-of-the-humans/

      1. “Climate change is real”. I love that. It is the archetype of the sentence that doesn’t mean anything. It’s kind of a post-surrealistic art form.
Definition: “Climate is the long-term weather pattern in an area, typically averaged over 30 years. More rigorously, it is the mean and variability of meteorological variables over a time spanning from months to millions of years” (Wikipedia).
OK. And that’s changing? Sure. Change is the only thing that’s permanent. But once you’ve said that, you haven’t said anything of value. My wife is changing. OK, is she getting younger, older, slimmer, fatter, blonder, browner, nicer, nastier, smaller, taller? We don’t know.
My wife is changing is a totally meaningless sentence (especially since I’m not married). And the same goes for climate change. It’s an empty slogan. It’s like the computer-modelling on which it is based: you get out of it what you’ve put into it in the first place. Fudge the initial data and you fudge the predictions as Bill Gates-funded Neil Ferguson of the London Imperial College brilliantly demonstrated with Covid. His initial predictions of 500,000 deaths in the UK and two million in the US were not anywhere near the mark.
He’s got a track record of always being wrong too.
        https://behindtheblack.com/behind-the-black/points-of-information/failed-past-predictions-from-a-covid-19-expert/#:~:text=
In any company, he would have been sacked long ago! Why do media like the corporate captured New York Times and Washington Post call him the “gold standard of computer modelling disease”?
Plausible answer: because some corporate people make money out of it.
Idem for the climate change hoax.

    3. he was not “the founder of Greenpeace”. more horseshit. more fakery. more self promotion.

      1. The article says he was “one of the founders”. If you read Wikipedia’s origin of Greenpeace, you’ll see that he considers himself one of the founders because he was part of the first protest voyage. He later distanced himself from Greenpeace and now they say that although a “significant early member”, he was not a founder but they also say there wasn’t really a founder. So it sounds to me very much like the polemics about Dr Robert Malone being the inventor of the mRNA technology or only one of the inventors. He’s got patents and saying he doesn’t know anything and is not qualified to talk about it is definitely a joke.

  47. Western civilisation is fake and makes an individual feel little and stupid, so we work for our violent masters.
When Dalai Lama was first asked how to deal with low self esteem, he had no such concept at all.
I see my kids growing up in the US and their self esteem being destroyed while being “educated” by the state schools.
I myself have been told that ” I am so confident”, like it is not expected of me.
American culture fosters inequality by squashing individuals with their fake tales of superheroes that nobody can measure up to. And these superheroes are also violent.

    1. Yup, and worse yet, it’s intentional.
