Listen to a reading of “Look With Nature’s Eyes”:

Look with nature’s eyes,
with atomic eyes,
with Eden eyes,
with primordial eyes.

Stand on nature’s feet,
on terrestrial feet,
on stardust feet,
on Big Bang feet.

Touch with nature’s hands,
with sapling hands,
with reverent hands,
with unprecedented hands.

Think with nature’s mind,
with undomesticated mind,
with wild mind,
with ineffable mind.

Let trees erupt from your cells.
Release the bats from their cages in your skull.
This is the place where scriptures and doctrines turn to gum leaves
and we can’t remember what was written on them
but we marvel at their beauty.

Let the stillness teach us how to move.
Let the spaces between our thoughts teach us how to think.
We are humble students of the great Emptiness
upon which this universe has been scribbled
by a baby god
in crayon.

The baby’s laughter echoes through our caverns
and withers our precious minarets
and turns our manifestos into tadpoles,
bouncing innocently and nonjudgmentally off all our houses of cards
and going burbling down the stream
while our empires implode behind it.

And now here we stand
with crumbling egos on a dying planet
surrounded by frogs the size of Volkswagens,
the size of skyscrapers,
the size of moons.
This is a strange, strange place,
and it is only getting stranger,
and none of the tools in our toolbox are fit for the job.

I have buried my old toolbox in the backyard
with a horse’s placenta and a box of Time magazines.
A tree now grows there which has leaves that drip oil
and fruit which tastes like the Reagan administration.

Those old tools have no use here.
I walk away from them,
on nature’s feet,
into the hatching of this new world.

Yes!!! Our world is so obsessed with text, textbooks, bibles, boring math equations. All poisons of the mind, shackling us away from beauty.

  5. Magnificent. Simply divine, Caitlin. Thank you for this soul-reminder.

  6. Nature is one POV container. It’s a venue for that which is even more important. What’s more important are the stories that emerge with it and from it. Of all, the most important stories are of the ‘truth pursuit stories’ of this place and the other places. For without story sharing nothing really exists – not nature – not universe. It does not exist until there are at least two dancing story sharers. Then the more perspective dancers the better. Then the closer the whole gets to discovering the best possible understanding of that moment in time.
The long-term game is to keep building better understanding of that which might be the ever-changing ‘truth’. So passing to the next discoverers, a balanced container, is the ultimate objective.

  7. OK Thank You Caitlin !!

  8. Thank you for reminding us that to be fully human is to have a moral poetic impulse animating our soul. Our current scarcity system, created by stunted thinking, views this vast abundant planet from a tiny lifeboat perspective. Garret Hardin’s “lifeboat ethics” was a flawed metaphor that has entropied the minds of Malthusians for centuries.

    1. I chose “entropy” rather than “atrophy” because closed system thinking is incongruous with burgeoning life and more akin to a winding down mechanical clock. Fascists are still clinging to Descartes’ mechanical universe analogy. It’s time to let it go.

  9. Back in the day, Rock and Roll concerts always had moments were musicians would shout something criticizing the government, wars, poverty among other things.
Today, except Roger Waters, everyone is in the payroll.
Back in the day, rope and chains to tie up someone in a tree to protest against industries used to be something awesome.
Today, people will look to the same thing labeling that person as a climate change activist.
Look with nature’s eyes but don’t tell anyone about it. If noticed, it will end up in the black market of organ trafficking.

  10. absolutely beautiful poetry – thankyou

  11. Yes, with nature’s eyes.

  12. Bread, BREAD, B-R-E-A-D
    And, yes, roses too.
    Thank you.

  13. Caitlin, I LOVE THIS!! Because I love nature and feel an affinity with trees and plants. They’re high frequency beings and I talk to them. Sometimes I hear them talk back.
The other day I was in my backyard, there was a slight breeze. When the leaves rustled I heard the trees and plants call out my name. Twice! I was in heaven. My Kundalini shot up through my body like an electrical surge. Sadly, humans have been programmed to disconnect from nature.

    @Everett
    Wonderful!

  14. SKY
    Were to be the sky
    Pleasure of the noctilucent
    Pain of the cumulonimbus
    Pareidolia’s dragon
    Transient luminous events
    A key on a string
    Chaotic electric fire
    Oxygen’s greens and reds
    Nitrogen’s blues and purples
    A magnet in my eye
    Magnificent winged creatures
    Murder of crows
    Ostentation of peacocks
    Parliament of owls
    All are within me
    All will pass
    From light to darkness
    From darkness to light
    Turning with the world

  15. Great poetry at least you’ll have a new career to fall back on once the new world order is fully in place.
