Biden Keeps Pledging Direct US War With China Over Taiwan

Listen to a reading of this article:

The president of the United States has once again committed the US military to direct hot war with China in the event of an attack on Taiwan, a commitment that was once again walked back by his White House handlers.

In a recent 60 Minutes interview, Biden was asked point-blank by CBS News’ Scott Pelley if US forces would defend Taiwan from an attack by the mainland.

“Yes, if in fact there was an unprecedented attack,” Biden said.

“After our interview a White House official told us US policy has not changed,” Pelly narrates after the comment. “Officially, the U.S. will not say whether American forces would defend Taiwan. But the commander-in-chief had a view of his own.”

“So unlike Ukraine, to be clear, sir, US Forces, US men and women would defend Taiwan in the event of a Chinese invasion?” Pelley asked.

“Yes,” Biden replied.

This is by my count the fourth time the US president has made such remarks in transgression of his government’s standing policy of “strategic ambiguity” on this issue only to have them walked back by administration staff.

This past May Biden said “yes” when asked by the press if the US would defend Taiwan militarily in the event of a Chinese invasion, adding, “That’s the commitment we made.” A White House official later stated that the president’s comments did not reflect a change in US policy.

At a CNN forum in October of last year Biden responded in the affirmative when asked by an audience member if the US would intervene to defend Taiwan, and said “Yes, we have a commitment” when asked to clarify if he meant intervening against an attack from China. Again, the White House quickly clarified that “there is no change in our policy.”

In an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos in August of last year Biden implied that the US would defend Taiwan as it would a NATO ally, saying that the US has “kept every commitment… same with Taiwan” when asked if China might be emboldened to attack the island by the US military withdrawal from Afghanistan. Again a senior administration official told the press, “Our policy with regard to Taiwan has not changed.”

(It is worth noting at this time that Biden’s repeated assertion that the US has a “commitment” to defend Taiwan militarily is objectively false; that hasn’t been the case for over 40 years.)

I’ve listed these statements in reverse chronological order, and you can see they get more vague the earlier they are. Now you’ve got the president clearly and explicitly saying that he will send US troops to kill and be killed in a direct hot war with China to defend Taiwan.

I don’t know why the US president keeps verbally committing his armed forces to a third world war against a nuclear-armed nation only to have it walked back over and over again by the administration he’s supposed to be in charge of. Is this just some neurological glitch in an aging brain which promoted war and militarism throughout its entire time in office? Is it some weird new tactic in “strategic ambiguity” to have different parts of the administration saying completely different things in totally unambiguous ways? Is Biden just a crazy warmonger? I don’t know. But what I do know is that all this chaos and confusion is happening at the worst possible time.

As Brett Wilkins explains for Common Dreams, a new bill from the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee threatens to bring the world much closer to a horrific war due to the way it would upend existing US policy on China with its recognition of Taiwan as a major “non-NATO ally” as part of a commitment to send billions of dollars worth of weapons to the island. Fears of what this could unleash upon our world have caused even fairly reliable empire facilitators like Ed Markey to vote against the bill, which Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning says would “greatly shake the political foundation of China-US relations and cause extremely serious consequences to China-US relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.”

This is just one of the ways that tensions with China are being ramped up with astonishing speed over Taiwan, among them also the normalization of sending an increasingly high number of US officials to Taipei in steadily rising contempt for Washington’s One China policy which has kept the peace along this flashpoint for decades.

This Taiwan situation is getting uglier and uglier, much faster than many expected, and the president of the world’s mightiest war machine is either two stupid, too bloodthirsty, too careless or too demented to navigate this situation with the sensitivity it deserves. Things never should have been allowed to get this far, and the US empire is showing us every indication that it intends to take things much, much further.

  • Biden is not only sick in the head from dementia but mostly from his desire to be a war time president.

    • At least the US has uncloaked itself (they are no longer hiding their dastardly deeds from the world). They are trying with all of their might to maintain dominance and their pseudo-values. The US is in decline, and you are witnessing the flailing, groveling, and pouting of a spoiled child! You see, they haven’t learned how to cooperate with a changing world. Maybe they need a time-out? Go to your room, and no dessert for you mister-man!

  • For now Heaven is holding back the wind of the WW3. This war, however, is maturing. Moses has already written: “And ships from the direction of Kittim [US Navy], and will afflict Asshur [Russia] and will afflict Eber [remaining enemies, including Iran and China].” (Numbers 24:24a) This will be a mutual slaughter and world war not only by name. And the sword of great power will be used. (Revelation 6:4) Jesus characterized it in this way: “A frightening things both and extraordinary (related to unusual phenomena) from sky powerful will be.” Because of the use of these terrible weapons there will be significant tremors along the length and breadth of the regions [of strategic importance] and famines, and pestilences. Some ancient manuscripts contain the words “and frosts”. The Aramaic Peshitta: “and will be great frosts”. (Luke 21:11) We call this today “nuclear winter”. In Mark 13:8 there are also words of Jesus: “and disorders” (in the sense of confusion and chaos). The Aramaic Peshitta: “and confusion” (on the state of public order). This war will start with an ethnic conflict. (Matthew 24:7) It won’t be Armageddon. “But all these things are a beginning of birth-pains.” (Matthew 24:8, DLNT) And now before us is the return of “the king of the north”. (Daniel 11:29a) Russian troops will return to where they were previously stationed. It also means military actions and major crisis. Not only the eurozone will break up, but also the European Union and NATO.

  • Biden on “60 Minutes”: American capitalism is at war with the world, at war with reality-(wsws.org-9/19/22-Joe Scalice)
Excerpt: In the space of 25 minutes, Biden made a series of extraordinary statements. He declared that the COVID-19 pandemic was “over”; announced his “ironclad commitment” to backing war against Russia, while acknowledging this contained the possibility of nuclear war; and pledged US forces to a possible war with China.
American capitalism is at war with reality, and nowhere is this more openly embodied than in its President Joe Biden. He acknowledged the gravity of the situation declaring, “This is a really difficult time. We’re at an inflection point in the history of this country.” At the same time, and without any justification, Biden announced, “I’m more optimistic than I’ve been in a long time.”
Excerpt: The American ruling class is inured to mass death. They have learned, with alarming speed, that widespread preventable death is something with which they are prepared to live. This sharpens the teeth of their militarist threats and brinkmanship.
Biden’s paramount concern in the interview was to make clear his unwavering determination to wage war. He announced Washington’s “ironclad commitment” to take the war against Russia “as far as it takes.” The goal, which he termed “winning in Ukraine,” was “to get Russia out of Ukraine completely.”

The United States (a corporate cabal of cowards, bigots, and chauvinists) is intoxicated by its delusions, self-righteousness, megalomania, and assumed manifest-destiny to govern the globe. The illustrious-potentate declares Covid-19 “over,” but I suspect this action drips of placation. That is, it’s really a concession to the working class designed to mitigate the blowback from his war escalation-declaration (more distraction & skullduggery). Covid-19? Another ruse/pretext for the graphene oxide/hydroxide (it’s safe and effective), VAERS injection. They’re in a world of shit, and they are cognizant that increasing numbers of people are also aware. I’ll bet you liked this one: “This is a really difficult time. We’re at an inflection point in the history of this country.” Sure Joe, we are at an inflection point! Joe, that’s what happens when you lie, bomb, poison, assassinate, fearmonger, warmonger, plunder, suppress, oppress, repress, and usury/chicanery with your debt-trap credit-cards from Delaware! Also, thanks again for the insidious student-loan debt-trap Joe. I’ll bet you’re fucking proud of that legislation, aren’t you? Yes…it’s you Joe, it is your legacy!

  • (Clinton Foundation Donors Got Weapons Deals From Hillary Clinton’s State Department-ibtimes.com-5/26/15-David Sirota):
Excerpt: Even by the standards of arms deals between the United States and Saudi Arabia, this one was enormous. A consortium of American defense contractors led by Boeing would deliver $29 billion worth of advanced fighter jets to the United States’ oil-rich ally in the Middle East.
But now, in late 2011, Hillary Clinton’s State Department was formally clearing the sale, asserting that it was in the national interest. At press conferences in Washington to announce the department’s approval, an assistant secretary of state, Andrew Shapiro, declared that the deal had been “a top priority” for Clinton personally. Shapiro, a longtime aide to Clinton since her Senate days, added that the “U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army have excellent relationships in Saudi Arabia.”
American defense contractors also donated to the Clinton Foundation while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state and in some cases made personal payments to Bill Clinton for speaking engagements. Such firms and their subsidiaries were listed as contractors in $163 billion worth of Pentagon-negotiated deals that were authorized by the Clinton State Department between 2009 and 2012.
Winning Friends, Influencing Clinton: Under federal law, foreign governments seeking State Department clearance to buy American-made arms are barred from making campaign contributions — a prohibition aimed at preventing foreign interests from using cash to influence national security policy. But nothing prevents them from contributing to a philanthropic foundation controlled by policymakers.
Reading these articles seems to have generated new, more important questions. Such as, “I wonder what could possibly be causing these endless wars?” Is it the “war on terror?” Possibly. How about the “war on drugs?” Maybe. Could it be the “class war?” Quite possible, but I can’t recall. What about the “run for a cancer cure?” Shit, I’ve been running farther then Forest Gump did, and Cancer is still present. Do you think it’s the “fight for freedom and democracy?” Shouldn’t we be able to gauge this by how much freedom and democracy we currently have? Well… you had better just forget that question, as there is not much subject matter to discuss.
You know, I’m reasonably confident that “our” (2) “political parties” are one huge conflict-or-interest. That is, the (2) parties have economic interests they safeguard, and the working-class gets all of the conflict! Would you agree?

  • What if you lived in the United States and thought that there is no way my government would do anything to harm me? OK?
Well, take a short read of the following excerpt, from the cited article, and draw your own conclusion:
(Top 10 U.S. Government Experiments Done on Its Own Citizens-listverse.com-6/1/17-Hunter Henson)
Excerpt: In September 1950, the U.S. Army was involved in a secretive experiment to test the possibility of biological warfare near the West Coast. They did so by releasing biological weapons into the streets of San Francisco to test their effects. They released a type of bacteria to gain information on how it would affect the population. This was done without the citizens’ consent.
By the end of Operation Sea-Spray, six different biological warfare tests had been performed on the residents of San Francisco. These releases killed many people and hurt several more. The government then concluded that it is very likely for a coastal city to be affected by such warfare.
One of the many deaths caused by this experiment was Edward Nevin. He died after bacteria from the government testing spread from his urinary tract to his heart. Other cases soon followed him, but many were cured after long, tortuous hospital stays.

Now, in consideration of what you just read, do you think there is at least a small possibility that your government (the U.S.) manufactured Covid-19 and facilitated the dissemination of it (the virus)? If no, then why does the United States maintain biological-warfare facilities throughout the world (Pentagon Biological Weapons Program Never Ended: US Bio-labs Around The World-9/18/18-geoengineeringwatch.org)? Now, it would be ridiculous of me to suggest that these Bio-labs manufacture chocolate ice-cream…right? Well, then what do they do, and what are they preparing for? What if China was not the origin of Covid-19, as the U.S. has frequently claimed (remember Trump decrying: Wuhan, Kung Flu, etc.)? What if China refuted the U.S. claims of the virus origin, and said the origination was the United States? Would you believe China? No? What if a U.S. Allie said the virus originated in the United States, would you give them some credibility? Well, what if that Allie was Japan (Indeed, a 23 February 2020 Japanese Asahi news report claimed that the Covid-19 coronavirus originated in the US, not in China, and that some (or many) of the 14,000 American deaths attributed to influenza may have in fact resulted from the coronavirus)? In fact, on 12 March 2020, CDC Director Robert Redfield admitted to the US Congress’ House Oversight Committee in a statement that some cases in October and November 2019 diagnosed previously as seasonal flu could have been the Covid-19 coronavirus. His statement is corroborated by staunch US allies Japan and Taiwan (medium.com-Smoking Gun — Covid19 Virus Confirmed in USA Before Wuhan-6/25/21-Dr. Michael Heng). There is food-for-thought here, right? Do you at least think there is the possibility of bullshit?

  • Oh, yes, their favorite new word: “unprecedented.”
They’ve polished it up in Ukraine and now they are ready to wield it on the world stage.

    • it’s probably a secret commitment and a secret policy, so nobody’s lying. i’m sure there’s a similar commitment and policy towards china: if taiwan attacks the mainland in an ‘unprecedented’ (?) way, the us will come to the defence of mainland china.
lawyers will argue that the ‘one china’-policy does not mean the us can’t encourage taiwan to declare independence and provoke a military intervention from the mainland and subsequently from the us. that is what taiwanese and us leadership want to happen. it’s another chicken-race.

  • a clever tactic by US Gov to convince China and the World that in a crisis USA will be in a state of indecicive confusion.

  • The situation is even more serious than Australians or U.K. residents realize. In the U.S., there is no such thing as a “government policy” different from the “president’s policy.” The president IS the executive branch. All other officers of the executive branch are the president’s subordinates and subject to his will. There is simply NO constitutional basis for anyone, or any number of folks, in the executive branch to contradict the president–except on the issue of PRESIDENTIAL DISABILITY under the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. So, the only appropriate question: “Is the president unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office?” Third attempt to post.

    • Except that this “president’s policy” is unconstitutional.
Policy is supposed to be debated and voted by the legislative branch, and the executive branch has the task of carrying out the people’s wishes, per the Constitution of the United States.
The executive branch has been expanding its powers, to the detriment of democracy (the former definition), for decades.

  • (The United States Isn’t a Country— It’s a Corporation-www.serenipidi.li-by Lisa Guliani)
Excerpt: The UNITED STATES government is basically a corporate instrument of the international bankers. This means YOU are owned by the corporation from birth to death. The corporate UNITED STATES also holds ownership of all your assets, your property, and even your children. Does this sound untrue? Think long and hard about all those bills you pay, all those various taxes and fines and licenses you must pay for. Yes, they’ve got you by the pockets. Actually, they’ve had you by the ass for as long as you’ve been alive. In your heart, you know it’s true. Don’t believe any of this? Read up on the 14th Amendment. Check out how “free” you really are!

The United States has been at war for 93% of its existence. When you send your son or daughter to fight and die for corporations, here are a few examples of who you are supporting (with your son or daughter’s life; if they should survive, they are likely to commit suicide.):

    (counterpunch.org-Bush Family War Profiteering-4/12/07-Evelyn Pringle):
Excerpt: Since this war on terror was declared following 9/11, the pay levels for the CEOs of the top 34 defense contractors have doubled. The average compensation rose from $3.6 million during the period of 1998-2001, to $7.2 million during the period of 2002-2005, according to an August 2006, report entitled, “Executive Excess 2006,” by the Washington-based, Institute for Policy Studies, and the Boston-based, United for a Fair Economy.
Excerpt: The last name of one family, which is literally amassing a fortune over the backs of our dead heroes, matches that of the man holding the purse strings in the White House. On December 11, 2003, the Financial Times reported that three people had told the Times that they had seen letters written by Neil Bush that recommended business ventures in the Middle East, promoted by New Bridges Strategies, a firm set up by President Bush’s former campaign manager, who quit his Bush appointed government job as the head of FEMA, three weeks before the war in Iraq began. Neil Bush was paid an annual fee to “help companies secure contracts in Iraq,” the Times said.

(prospect.org-The Members of Congress Who Profit From War-1/17/20-By Donald Shaw and David Moore)
Excerpt: In the 2020 Defense appropriations bill, the subcommittee approved $1.85 billion for 18 more F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircrafts and spare parts from Lockheed Martin. Subcommittee member Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) owns as much as $100,000 worth of stock in Lockheed Martin. The subcommittee also recommended $1.1 billion for 6 P-8A Poseidon aircraft, which is a maritime patrol and reconnaissance plane made by Boeing. Subcommittee members Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), and Jerry Moran (R-Kansas) own as much as a combined $750,000 in Boeing stock.

(trtworld.com-Ask not what the war cost the US, but who profited from the war-8/19/21)
Excerpt: When discussing the politics of war, a central premise is often put forward: Cui bono? Who benefits? John Boyd, a former Air Force fighter pilot famously expounded on a theory where there was no contradiction between the military’s stated mission and disregard for combat success: “People say the Pentagon does not have a strategy,” he said. “They are wrong. The Pentagon does have a strategy. It is, “Don’t interrupt the money flow, add to it.”

  • “The president of the world’s mightiest war machine is either two stupid, too bloodthirsty, too careless or too demented to navigate this situation with the sensitivity it deserves”.

Of course, the million-dollar question is how demented is he really and how much agency has he got?

Let’s explore the option that it’s not just the rants of a senile old fool but political declarations in their own right.

There’s a good chance this is not aimed at China. Let’s not forget how Mark Milley would have won himself a Razzie Award if there was one for chiefs of staff by acknowledging sheepishly after the 2020 election that he’d phoned his Chinese counterpart behind his president’s back to tell him everything was quiet on the western front. When these guys have things to say to each other, they don’t need no goddamn president. Or if they do for show, it’s Xi and Joe’s phone call when Pelosi went to Taiwan, which seems to have defused the situation since nothing really happened, except for XI throwing a few pellets in the sea to save face – for which he probably sent the bill to the Pentagon.

It has likely more to do with national politics and it could serve two purposes:

1/ Biden, like Macron, is a 100% deep state president, elected solely on a “you don’t wanna vote for the other bitch” deep state media campaign. He owes them 100%. On his own merit, he was tailing in fifth position in Iowa before they took matters in hand, downsized Buttigieg to real life dimensions and got rid of Sandaflake, Pocahontas and the rest of the barons. They can bring him down any time they want. Not only him but his beloved son is only one word away from jail on various charges. The laptop’s details of Biden & Co’s dealings with Chinese hot shots are a sword of Damocles over Joe’s head. So just like Trump who’d aspired at being best pals with Vlad in a world of peace and love as he ran but had to turn hawk on him after being accused of collusion, Biden may turn hawk on Xi before risking being accused of collusion.

2/ Dem voters know by now that the party they voted for ain’t gonna do nuffin’ for them. No healthcare for all, no general student loan forgiveness, no $15 minimum wage, no forgiveness for marijuana offenses… Only inflation, money for nazis and bug sandwiches. Even AOC is now playing it the Meghan Markle way: they hate me cuz I’m a woman of color! Electoral promises? Fuck that shit, you white supremacist male chauvinist pig you!

The Dems’ best hopes for the midterms lie in hijacking moderate anti-Trump Republicans. And these guys, pushed by their insane “the CCP’s bloodthirsty murderers are out to get us” media, love to hear war drums roll against them commies – or chinks, depending on which, of ideology or racism, is closer to their hearts.

  • I’ve been watching Scott Ritter, Brian Berletic and The Duran report on the Ukraine war. At first, it was Russia will roll over them. Now, Ritter is saying Russia will need to commit another two hundred thousand troops and will need to impose regime change. Although I absolutely oppose my country’s empire and the capitalists who oppress us, their strategy of bogging down Russia in a quagmire is having an effect. A tragic effect for Ukraine with economic effects felt worldwide. Biden has always been a loyal servant of empire. Unless this is rogue demented behavior, similar strategy may be in the works with Taiwan, which would be just as horrific. All this terror, as I’m enjoying coffee on my patio on a beautiful Fall morning in the Rocky Mountain west. Let’s dream of peace.

  • Most odd. In the teeth of the Deep State’s policy on China, Biden is permitted a “personal view” that contradicts it? So now it is crystal clear who’s really in charge, if there was ever any doubt: policy is made by the DS and handed down to the irrelevant nonentity who happens to be occupying the White House. The nonentity is free to do and say whatever he likes (just as with Bush 2.0 and Obama) but the policy does not change.
And the screaming Trumpers think that anything was different while the Donald occupied Washington? Seriously?

  • Self-made favourite quote: ‘no matter where the US goes, shit is sure to follow. Hasn’t failed yet’. And so it has been for decades on end…and still is. Would love to see the US with badly burned fingers.

    • Wouldn’t help, there’s always more fingers.
Are you the same Vera that used to comment on the Guardian back in the day, and Washington’s blog, and other places? I’ve always enjoyed your remarks. (I used to comment as unheilig before getting banned on all the MSM sites.)

  • We will be talking about US empire war with Russia and China till 2025 at least. The US does not have military projection as Russia and China have on its own. The US embassies, CIA, financial system will blackmail a lot of governments to force them to commit citizens to do the fighting for the empire. It is the US fourth reich with nazis fighting for America along with Al Qaeda and many CIA terrorist organizations sponsored by them worldwide.

  • The closer a great power gets to the war it wants to avoid – because it will ultimately lose it – the more convinced it becomes it will win it. The delusion deepens, because wars are about power: but power is an illusion.
    https://patternofhistory.wordpress.com/

  • What will happen after Election Day is not clear. Could be a walking back or an escalation.

  • So what the president of the USA says in public in his role as president is ‘not official’? The policy he clearly enunciates is not the ‘official policy’ of his administration? Well that’s certainly ambiguity but is it strategic? Or does it just make the USA a confused and ungoverned loose cannon on the world deck

  • Political optics is all about timing. What’s going on right now that MSM is ignoring? The SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) Summit.
    .
“The SCO summit this week offers much welcome hope for a saner, more peaceful world.

The 22nd summit this week of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization explicitly and unreservedly promotes peaceful partnership and multilateralism – in stark contrast to the de facto Western worldview of hegemony and endless conflict.”
    .
    https://strategic-culture.org/news/2022/09/16/sco-summit-offers-vision-of-hope-amid-us-led-insanity-for-war/

  • “the president […] is either two stupid”
Sometimes, a typo can make a text even better. Biden is not just stupid, he’s two stupid.

    • Biden is doubly stupid and/or doubly evil.

Stupidity and evil are the same if judged by results.

      Margaret Atwood

      • Good quote!
But I would even say that (at least almost) everything we consider to be evil is just stupidity.
Even the Nazis in Germany didn’t thought of themselves as evil, didn’t want to be evil. They wanted to do the right thing, be the good guys. They thought they had to defend themselves, their families, their friends from some weird imagined threats. This is not evil, just completely stupid.
But yeah, the result is evil.

  • By now it isn’t disputable that Biden’s cognitive standing is handicapped. At any given moment, Biden doesn’t know if he is sitting or standing. The answer for the war rhetoric must be sought elsewhere. The US, just like the entire West, for the most part, are not governed by those we assume are legitimate office bearers. The problem is that, there are rich mafia-like globalists secret society factions and oligarchs who are the manipulators and sponsors of US foreign and domestic policies. In Russia, which isn’t perfect itself in this regard, their feasting tables were overturned and they turned West and to Israel for refuge many of them, where intelligence agencies are finding them useful to achieve own goals of enhancing western hegemony and of perpetual robbing of weaker nations..This must be the basic reason for the Ukraine conflict and the conspiracies to topple the Russian government. These secret formations are cunning as they are dangerous. We need to save ourselves the trouble of banking on these elites who are there only to appear on TV and newspaper articles to hide the truth and to deceive us even further. Basically, they are puppets themselves and are listening to the master’s voice at every turn or else they get booted out and replaced. True, as it was pointed out, war, dangerous as it is, is a racket and the means to grab an extra buck by all means by the dangerously greedy oligarchs.

  • “The American is marked, in fact, by precisely the habits of mind and act that one would look for in a man insatiably ambitious and yet incurably fearful, to wit, the habits, on the one hand, of unpleasant assertiveness, of somewhat boisterous braggardism, of incessant pushing, and, on the other hand, of conformity, caution and subservience. He is forever talking of his rights as if he stood ready to defend them with his last drop of blood, and forever yielding them up at the first demand. ”
George Jean Nathan and H.L. Mencken, The American Credo, 1920
H.L. Mencken predicted almost a century ago:
“All the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre — the man who can most adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum. The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

“When I was a boy I was told that anybody could become President; I’m beginning to believe it.” — Quoted in ‘Clarence Darrow for the Defence’ by Irving Stone

    • Democracy is far from perfect, my friend. Central banks and mega corporations have longed for the day that the nation-state would dissolve, so appoint feckless leaders in the White House and Congress to ensure its dysfunction, just as Wall St deliberately mismanages public finance to underfund social services so that they may be “rescued” by the private sector vultures.
      .
“The nation-state as a fundamental unit of man’s organized life has ceased to be the principal creative force: International banks and multinational corporations are acting and planning in terms that are far in advance of the political concepts of the nation-state.”
      .
~ Zbigniew Brzezinski, Between Two Ages: America’s Role in the Technetronic Era, 1970

      • A quote from a 1924 edition of the American Banker’s Association not intended for the public sums up what is currently happening all around us:
“Capital must protect itself in every possible way, both by combination and legislation. Debts must be collected, mortgages foreclosed as rapidly as possible. When, through the process of law, the common people lose their homes, they will become more docile and more easily governed through the strong arm of government applied by a central power of wealth under leading financiers. These truths are well known among our principal men who are now engaged in forming an imperialism to govern the world.
By dividing the voter through the political party system, we can get them to expend their energies in fighting for questions of no importance.
It is thus by discreet action we can secure for ourselves that which has been so well planned and so successfully accomplished.”

        Democracy passes into despotism. —
        Plato 427 BC-347 BC

  • We live in a very stupid time. Everything is dumb now.

  • Just imagine that Donald Trump had spoken these words we wouldn’t hear ourselves think for the din of protests from the so called leftwing/neoliberal so called fucking elite .

    • Neoliberalism (or neo-liberalism) is a term used to describe the 20th-century resurgence of 19th-century ideas associated with economic liberalism and free-market capitalism. It is generally associated with policies of economic liberalization, including privatization, deregulation, globalization, free trade, austerity and reductions in government spending in order to increase the role of the private sector in the economy and society.
      .
Sovereign nation-states have the power to create their own currency, in direct competition with private banks. Neoliberalism of the past 40 years divorced fiscal policy for public purpose from the economy, forcing the nation to depend solely on bank credit (predatory loans and high interest credit cards), causing the peak debt levels today.
      .
MMT, particularly Prof. Stephanie Kelton’s bestseller, The Deficit Myth, exposes all of the lies and myths hidden beneath complex math models being taught in economics classrooms today. Prof. William Mitchell’s book Reclaiming the State is another important book that outlines a new vision for public policy. Prof. Michael Hudson is great economic historian and author worth researching.
      .
Neoliberalism is privatization and privatization is at the core of fascism. The west has been in right wing territory for over 40 years. If you’ve ever wondered what happens when intelligence agencies, central banks and mega corporations run your country, just take a look around you.

      • Even though fascism can be defined variously, I agree with your take. Benito Mussolini who is thought of as its originator stated, ‘ it is the merger of state and corporate power, united under an authoritarian, nationalist regime.’ once the state controls what would be okay still, if not even better, when handled by private entities , it can only be fascism.

      • Thank you, thank you, thank you.
An MMT voice to bring sense to the neoclassical academic economic models.
I have been explaining your description of neoliberalism to many people on different threads who wonder why “neoliberal” doesn’t behave in a “liberal” (as described as “generous or “open-handed,” the old defintion of “liberal”) fashion.
The US has now persuaded the UK to underfund the NHS so that it can be gobbled up by US HMO privateers.

  • Midterms are coming up, maybe he thinks more war talk will help his party.

  • I was wondering if we legally or imprison every MICIMATT employee, official etc who supports or votes for a war with China over Taiwan. Guantanamo the lot for plotting the destruction of the US – oh yes, along with the rest of the world. Can this not be considered treason –

  • You’d think that the political establishment in Washington would be very very alarmed by Biden’s repeated statements, and make major efforts to prevent him from escalating tensions further and leading the US into a type of war that would destroy US territory and people directly, and therefore affect them personally.
But I think that the Americans really believe that nobody (apart from 9/11 US-funded terrorists) would dare attack the USA with nuclear weapons – based on the deluded notion of ‘exceptionalism’ (as in arrogance, conceit, and gross stupidity). For them, all wars are fought in other countries against weaker enemies using their usual ‘shock and awe’ tactics that make a lot of noise, but ultimately don’t win their wars.
Their inability and unwillingness to learn may cost us our lives, too.

    • The US and Allies have been involved in too many wars of aggression against enemies, real and mainly fake ones and losing to the point where they don’t know what losing a war is. As long as there are Americans who are willing to die for nothing like it is the case in the Ukraine, the US elites will always be looking for a chance to start a war because for them war means money in the bank they own.

    • You know, I think the cabal would be fine with an agenda reciting mule, as long as they had control over the venal mule. The perfidious cronies have no remorse about sending “your” son or daughter to die in a corporate-conflict money-making scheme. If there were no consequences to their nefarious actions (and we’re nearly there), they would hastily attempt to dispose of us (working-class, etc.). They don’t give a shit about winning a conflict; the end-game is maintaining the cash-cow. They have deluded themselves in thinking the other great powers won’t retaliate (our homeland) if pushed too far; and there is a point, too far. They seem to be no more than psychopathic sycophants in their exclusive, perverted club. As long as they exhibit an acceptable degree of honor among thieves (this is Trump’s problematic context), they may continue to collaborate in the cabal. Yes…the U.S. treats weaker countries as a cowardly bully would treat an inferior subject. 911 was the designed catalyst/pretext for imperialism; this was planned years in advance to forestall Eastern ascendancy (China), and plunder resources (Russia, etc.). As China’s premise to decision making is based on longevity and pragmatics, it would be beneficial if the U.S. would make sincere overtures of rapprochement and cease the warmongering. We could learn much from a 5000-year-old extant (a good book to read is the China Mirage). Unfortunately, I don’t think this action is in the cards; it’s not in the United States’ DNA. I suppose the United States is akin to Commodus, running around the world with a lion’s jaw and club, feigning Hercules. What hubris and stupidity? There seems to be some seriously dangerous class-V rapids ahead.

  • One fact which has been well established in Biden’s long history in US politics is that he is a fool. He was a fool even before his cognitive decline. The other fact is that US foreign policy is made by warmongering neocons. The crazies have taken over foreign policy. Sure, we have a few people who try to smooth things over when stupid statements are made, but the fact is that the US is totally committed to continuing its foolish goal of Unipolar Hegemony. The only logical conclusion is nuclear war. It appears that there are no adults in US policy making positions. Biden is a loose cannon, but only one among many. By the way, the Secretary of State is totally incompetent and only knows how to threaten other nations. He has not a clue how diplomacy works and no intent to learn.

    • The US President is supposed to make foreign policy. This was made clear by France’s supporter Thomas Jefferson when Citizen Genet tried to bypass George Washington and get French warships made in the US going to the individual states for approval, and was stopped. For good or worse, that is the President’s role.
Of course that has changed as was made clear by Trump’s Impeachment over Ukraine and Biden corruption there (ukrainegate.info). We saw a parade of Russian haters, mostly Ukrainians, Eastern Europeans and even Russian “escapees” (with the money), now working in the State Department, saying Trump was violating the “consensus policies” of people like “Ambassador” Bolton, the Vindmans, Marie Yovanovich, Nuland and the Kagans, and of course Viceroy VP Biden. In short, Ukraine has been a puppet state since the Orange Revolution in 2004/5, with US control massively increased since the Maidan Coup in 2014, and the shelling of the ethnic Russian Ukrainians in the Donbas. These State Dept neocons are nationalized Americans but want the US to fight their old family battles from WWII or longer ago. And they are happy to see THEIR wars fought to the last American, just as now to the Last Ukrainian.
No doubt the same scenario is playing out to create a Taiwan Crisis.
