I talk about narrative all the time partly because narrative control is the source and foundation of the power of the US-centralized empire. The ability to control the way people think, act and vote with mass-scale psychological manipulation allows our rulers to dominate us more pervasively than we could ever be dominated by brute totalitarian force, which is why so much energy goes into keeping the people from controlling their own narratives. That’s all the current mainstream panic about “disinformation” is, for example. If narrative control were fully decentralized, our rulers couldn’t rule.
But I also focus on narrative because its consequences are so much more far-reaching than that.
The fascinating thing about paying attention to the way narrative differs from reality is that it doesn’t just change your understanding of politics and power throughout the world: you start to notice that your whole life is dominated by narratives — not just about the world, but about you.
You start out getting curious if the narratives you’ve been fed about your country, your government, and global power dynamics are really true, and if you’re sincere you start taking that curiosity to questions about narratives you’ve come to believe about your own life. Narratives about what’s important, about what’s real, about what’s true, about what’s helpful. Narratives about how you are, narratives about who you are. Narratives that were put in your head by teachers, preachers, friends and family, and narratives you made up yourself long ago and kept believing.
You start getting curious about the way your own life has been shaped by believed narrative, and you start to discover a whole reality underneath the matrix of stories which buzzes around in your consciousness. A reality that could not possibly be more different from your stories about it.
You start to discover that your entire framework for perceiving the world is based on believed stories which are not ultimately true and are generally very unhelpful for moving through life in a harmonious way. Stories about others. Stories about life. And stories about yourself.
That last one is the real kicker. Because it turns out that underneath the narrative matrix, what you are is more different from your mental stories about what you are than you could possibly imagine. And these misperceptions of identity shape your entire experience of reality. You start to see that this finite, separate “me” character your entire mental world has revolved around your whole life has no more reality to it than a fictional character in a storybook. After that illusion becomes clarified, life is no longer dominated by narrative.
To be clear, narrative in and of itself is not the problem; narrative in and of itself is a useful tool. “I went to the store” is a narrative. “Those berries are poisonous” is a narrative. “One should look both ways before crossing the street” is a narrative. The problem isn’t narrative, the problem is that it dominates our experience instead of serving as a tool. The goal isn’t to eliminate narrative but to put it in its proper place as a useful tool rather than the writer, director and star of the entire show of life. The problem isn’t narrative but believed narrative, in the same way watching a horror movie causes no problems for you if you remain clear that it’s just a movie.
Look closer and you see through the stories about your nation, your government and your world. Look closer still and you see through your believed stories about life which lead you to think the way you think and act the way you act. Look even closer and you see through the stories about your actual fundamental nature.
The reason propaganda works is because human experience is so thoroughly dominated by mental stories that if you can control the dominant narratives, you can control humanity. The quest is not just to refute propaganda, but to cease having an experience that is dominated by narrative.
And of course all this is a narrative too. But it points to something real which can be clearly perceived in your own experience without narrative, in the same way you can see your hand in front of your face without having to tell any stories about it.

The narrative is started during infancy (or even before birth) by the infant as a means of understanding its environment and to guarantee that he/she will be loved even though Mother is seemingly not loving.
I remember that part of my life very well, for me the question of being loved ever entered my mind, it was always a matter of keeping that individual happy so that I would not be neglected and therefore left to die. It’s a form of prostitution no doubt, made necessary by the material and emotional needs of the care giver, as a matter of necessity my father had to be stiffed every time about everything. My first words were, “ma-ma”, not that she deserved them, but rather as a gamble that it might make her happy enough long enough, so that I would receive enough care in order to survive.
I understand what you’re saying Roy!! I was interacting with my mother last night, and for some reason I suddenly felt like a child with no sense of language, and realized that the “love” between my mother and I was fake all along. I never had that much clarity before. Everything I call my “personality” was just designed to please my parents so that they wouldn’t neglect me. And neglect me they did. All my efforts only led to them giving me the bare minimum love. I remember when I was younger, they would joke about giving me away because I was such a handful. They WANTED to neglect and abandon me deep down. It hurts to realize this – it hurts to realize how much my own parents don’t want me. In my childlike trance, I was able to appreciate the horror of having to say goodbye to mommy as she went away for work. Oh what a society we live in. I guess that’s why people drink and medicate – to chemically fill the void. What a wonderful world.
There’s a man with a Youtube channel named Daniel Mackler who talks about these things by the way – how unloving our parents are, and all the things we do in this world to compensate for a fundamental lack of love.

Ain’t that the truth. And you can’t choose your family, you can’t really choose your teachers. These are all situations you were forced into. Forced to surround yourself with people who have accepted a disappointing, non-beautiful, non-wholesome version of reality. Forced to listen to their narratives or face humiliation

From Ghion Journal
If there is one thing that united slave holders in the South and moguls in the North in the era leading up to the Civil War, it was the fear of poor “whites” realizing that they have more in common with slaves than they had with the rest of society. To this extent, all efforts were continuously extended to brainwash “white” sharecroppers—who were practically working for free and living in horrific conditions—into believing that “black” people were beneath their contempt. All you need to convince a pauper that he is a prince is to point to someone who has lesser means.
Despite all the efforts extended to cleave poor “whites” apart from poor “blacks”, there were campaigns as far back as the Reconstruction era to form alliances between the two factions in the heart of Dixie. Matthew C. Butler, a former Confederate General, explained in his testimony in Congress that men like him felt undermined and their concerns unheeded which led him to work with freedmen to advance their collective interests. These types of solidarity movements represented a clear and present danger to the hustle of Northern and Southern aristocrats alike in ways that made William Tecumseh Sherman look like Mother Theresa…continued…
Pretty old stuff Mr. Censor, almost 200 years old.
“If narrative control were fully decentralized, our rulers couldn’t rule.”
Yes, but we live in a society that is designed to incentivize criminal behavior at the highest level. It seems to me, and the ruling class is hastily conspiring to repress such an action, one of the only options remaining is a monumental coalescing of like-minded solidarity. Just as the U.S. ruling class is taking action to forestall China’s ascension, they are also preparing for blowback from United States’ citizenry. The establishment’s option’s toolbox is waning. If I was the least bit prescient, I would say the Pentagon and all their cronies, will start WWIII through a false flag incident; and this will be their pretext (under pretense of “National Security”) to enact actions suspending personal liberties (e.g.- crush unionizing efforts, suppress dissent, impose martial law…). Their current demeanor strongly suggests this (Ukraine escalation, Taiwan Strait provocations, East vs. West rhetoric…).
Thank you, Caitlin, for providing this platform, and for all of the insightful articles!
Being lost in the truthful narrative can also distract if all a narrative does is lead to endless discussion without actions taken.
The United States’ ruling class constantly spews out accusations about how we should beware of: China, Russia, Iran, Venezuela, North Korea, Cuba, Nicaragua…
But why do we have to have an enemy? Why does the United States sanction countries, such as Cuba, for approximately 61 years? What, or who are we protecting? And why? Do the previously mentioned countries fear the United States? Is it fearmongering to convince American citizens that they need security and protection from some conjured abstract monstrosity?
Is the U.S. Government the Enemy of the People? (tenthamendmentcenter.com-9/11/19-by John Whitehead):
Excerpt: Take heed, America. Our losses are mounting with every passing day. What began with the post-9/11 has snowballed into the eradication of every vital safeguard against government overreach, corruption and abuse. The citizenry’s unquestioning acquiescence to anything the government wants to do in exchange for the phantom promise of safety and security has resulted in a society where the nation is being locked down into a militarized, mechanized, hypersensitive, legalistic, self-righteous, goose-stepping antithesis of every principle upon which this nation was founded.
If I just knew what was real I could act in a honest way. But since all I know is a false narrative I must act in a dishonest way to my true self. If I only had a brain.
I could while away the hours
Conferrin’ with the flowers,
Consulting with the rain;
And my head I’d be a scratchin’
While my thoughts are busy hatchin’
If I only had a brain.
I’d unravel ev’ry riddle for my
Individdle
In trouble or in pain
With the thoughts that you’ll be thinkin’
You could be another Lincoln
If you only had a brain.
Oh, I, could tell you why
The oceans near the shore
I could think of things I’d never
Thunk before,
And then I’d sit down and think some more.
I would not be just a muffin’,
My head all full of stuffin’,
My heart all full of pain;
And perhaps I’d deserve you and be
Even worthy even you
If I only had a brain.

“If I just knew what was real, I could act in an honest way.” That’s right. It’s as if we live in the United States of Chaos! The ruling class keeps us on our heels…constantly guessing. They are not our friends. They only care about controlling the world, and maintaining their corrupted world order, and dollar as the default world currency. The US is not a country for families, it is only an egotistical predatory corporation. If there were ever any altruistic leanings associated with the US, they seem to be long gone. All we have now is the red, white, and blue residue.
Controlling the narrative? Here are some clues (timeline) as how we evolved to the current dystopian state we now live in:
The hidden history of America’s richest, cruelest slave owners (al.com-9/15/19-by the Washington Post)
The two most ruthless domestic slave traders in America had a secret language for their business. Slave trading was a “game.” The men, Isaac Franklin and John Armfield, were daring “pirates” or “one-eyed men,” a euphemism for their penises. The women they bought and sold were “fancy maids,” a term signifying youth, beauty and potential for sexual exploitation – by buyers or the traders themselves. Rapes happened often.
Franklin and Armfield, who headquartered their slave trading business in a townhouse that still stands in Alexandria, Virginia, sold more enslaved people, separated more families and made more money from the trade than almost anyone else in America. Between the 1820s and 1830s, the two men reigned as the “undisputed tycoons” of the domestic slave trade, as Smithsonian Magazine put it.
Next: Andrew Carnegie, owner of Carnegie Steel Co., Pittsburg, PA. (formed in 1892), hired an American industrialist, Henry Frick, to manage the steel workers at the factory. Henry simply pushed the workers beyond their limits, and many died while working (extended shifts in horrendously hot temperatures). The workers rebelled (called the Homestead Strike), and Henry Frick, adamant to negotiate, called in replacement workers and the Pinkerton National Detective Agency. Frick’s actions antagonized the workers, and a gun battle resulted in which many Pinkerton agents and strikers were killed, and many were injured. The working class is still in a class war with the United States’ ruling class.
And finally, talking about controlling the narrative, here we are: Pentagon’s secret social media influencing campaign exposed (wsws.org-9/21/22-Kevin Reed): Excerpt: The Washington Post reported on Monday that the Pentagon has ordered a “sweeping audit of how it conducts clandestine information warfare,” after news broke that Facebook parent Meta and Twitter had removed numerous fake accounts that were run by the US military.
No doubt, probably the only real people on this website are those who are making over $33,000 per day as stay at home envelope lickers. We exist solely to serve the needs of the bots that live amongst us. Behaviorally, we can’t really be said to be real, I mean, I know that for a fake that I’m not real because I finally got hold of my adoption papers and sure enough, every damn page was blank.
Our “alleged” leaders are presently attempting to “blank” us out: intentional inflation (facilitates unemployment), VAERS “non-vaccine,” export our jobs/livelihoods, union-busting, healthcare (actual disease-care), prison-industrial-complex (fabricated sentences for cheap labor), intentional indebtedness (e.g.-student loans…), etc. George Carlin was right all along: they (CEOs, Dynastic money, the (2) parties that are (2) branches of the same tree) have never, never, never, really given a shit about the working-class. We’re in a class-war! And it also looks as if the working-class will suffer (placed in jeopardy due to misdeeds of the ruling-class), from what appears to be an imminent WWIII.
I am currently making an extra $33,000 or several months from home doing very honest and simple sports online from home. Although currently I have no doubt that specifically $20845 in the remaining month comes from this domestic hobby. ~B10 ~ I am currently interacting at some point during this hobby and generating larger coins online by swaying

Talking about narratives, RAND’s roadmap for the Ukraine war while the corporate media push with a sledgehammer the notion that it was unprovoked is light years beyond the limits of extravagance. They fucking wrote the script! Can’t make that stuff up!
When driving a community bus I announced to the carer staff, with whom I got on well “When I look in a mirror I see a young, intelligent and virile man with a fit, cared for physique”. They were perplexed until I pointed out a roadside mirror for a hidden driveway. Underneath the mirror was the sign ‘distorted image’.
I predicted in February all these unfolding events.
After the reactions from NATO countries and new members in Munich 2007, at least since 2010 Russia has been preparing the military for an eventual NATO expansion. By my account Russia has at least 30 millions of soldiers at disposal as reserves.
300K being added to the equation now will expand the power to protect Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia Kherson and expand the maneuverability power to Kharkov and eventually Odessa. Still minimum but it is a strategic move to pull out from NATO any plans to counterattack Russia in the next spring which will be impossible depending on the Russian plans to neutralize it. The message is clear to NATO. We got that covered enough and more to fight big cities like Paris, Rome, Berlin, Madrid if necessary to crush NATO once and for all. It is too late now for NATO, UK, America, EU after several official statements backing up Ukraine till the bitter end to just say to the MSM that “we are not at war with Russia”.

Red pill people have undergone what I call a cognitive shift. I’m walking through a field when I look down and see an ant. Then I see another ant, and suddenly my perspective shifts and I see thousands of ants. I’m standing in the middle of a colony of fire ants. 911 was a cognitive shift for me. The minute I saw the towers collapse I knew that the whole thing was staged. The planes were just props to create the illusion that we were being attacked by muslim extremists while the real extremists were American and Israeli. Then I started seeing more and more lies. They were everywhere. I’m standing in the middle of a huge colony of lies. The biggest danger is seeing lies where there aren’t any. Sometimes the truth can be disguised as a lie.
The tricky part is when narrative or story or feeling or image is reinforced by trauma. Most of belief is the result of trauma and that’s hard to shake. I’ve seen folks who thought they had the perfect life and upbringing suddenly realize how traumatized they are. Propaganda, and even ‘horror movies’, are communicating with your unconscious mind as well as the curious part, which can surface in dreams. I was at a party once and a educated guy yelled at his toddler, blurting out, stop doing that, you little homo, something his educated father probably said to him. A small trauma the child will not remember consciously. Trauma is why they can sell us just about any product we don’t need and sell us rule by the rich.
Yes, exactly. The role of trauma can’t be understated in getting us to accept a false reality. We buy their cheap, fake products without asking questions, because subconsciously we fear what they’ll do to us if we don’t obey. We subconsciously understand that our masters are not above beating us, poisoning us, torturing us. It’s why torture has been used throughout history. People have a natural inclination to resist, to fight back, to be real, to live authentically.
> A small trauma the child will not remember consciously.
Again, you are right. A child cannot remember it, because the adult will probably never address it. The adult is in charge of the narrative, the adult gets to edit history. Kids go through thousands of these little “paper cuts” at the hands of their parents, at the hands of other adults.
Probably the best analysis of mass-scale psychological manipulation is Wilhelm Reich’s “The Mass Psychology of Fascism” written in the 1930s about Nazi Germany. (Like Churchill said to Truman on the defeat of the Nazis, “fascism is dead, long-live neo-fascsism.”} A close second, would be Neil Postman’s watershed book “Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business,” written in the 1980s about the U.S.
People who have done the hard work of self-reflection and people who have stumbled by accident, receive the reward of ‘satori’, illumination, which is the beginning of practice. Caitlin is obviously a member of the first category, but it does not matter. What matters is the practice of illumination. Those who direct their gift towards the world are called bodhisattvas.
Interesting narrative.
It seems to me that the most revolutionary act is to encourage people to be more reflective.
“It seems to me that the most revolutionary act is to encourage people to be more reflective.” Yes, it would be good if people would pause, and have a little introspection. You frequently hear, “people need to think out of the box.” It would be OK with me if people would just start thinking “in the box.”
I came across a striking illustration of this narrative illusion business lately when a lady explained, in a comment section, that she once won the whole collection of the Beatles records thanks to John Lennon’s 1969 song Ballad of John and Yoko.
She detailed that her local radio station set up a contest asking which hotel was mentioned in the Ballad of John and Yoko. She said she immediately called because even though she didn’t have the answer right there and then, she knew the song by heart and so, by simply playing it in her head, the name of the Amsterdam Hilton would come along by the time they picked up. And that’s exactly what happened. “True story!” she added.
Except that… I’ve played that song myself many times over the years and even though I can’t say I know the lyrics by heart, I spontaneously didn’t have any recollection of a hotel being mentioned there. So I checked with my Beatles Complete song book from which I played it and sure enough… there was none.
This lady obviously got two memories mixed up about this set of events which happened fifty-three years ago: the song, which revolves around John and Yoko under heavy press scrutiny finally getting “married in Gibraltar near Spain” and the fact that they then staged a bed-in in the Amsterdam Hilton.
Knowing they would be stalked by the media on their honeymoon no matter what, they decided to take advantage of the paparazzi’s fever by involving them in their post-wedding celebrations and changing the narrative to something bigger than this sordid tabloid affair.
They sent out a card reading: ‘Come to John and Yoko’s honeymoon: a bed-in, Amsterdam Hilton.’ Lennon was quoted in The Beatles Anthology saying the media thought they were going to make love in public, based on the fact that the cover of their 1968 album Two Virgins featured the couple naked.
Instead, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day from 25th to 31st March, the couple dressed in pyjamas talked about how to achieve world peace – at the height of the Vietnam war – to the international press gathered in their hotel suite.
Her head on the chopping block, this lady would still probably have sworn that the Amsterdam Hilton was mentioned in the Ballad of John and Yoko and we could now only mourn her passing at the hand of an illusion.
Yet the joke was on me. Listening to the song, I realized that my most official Beatles Complete song book, which I had trusted and played from for fifty years was so “complete” that it casually omitted the two verses about the Amsterdam Hilton and the “lightning trip to Vienna”.
That’s how close I came to have my own head chopped off at the hand of an illusion…
The self-appointed script writers for, at least, western “reality” aren’t exactly top calibre. Their vision for the world would be better suited for a Black Mirror episode.

I couldn’t help but compare these propagandizers to this review of the new Rings of Power series: https://off-guardian.org/2022/09/20/review-the-rings-of-power/
.
“Gone is their poetry-steeped culture, one that celebrates art and beauty above power and influence. Gone is their ethereal, illuminating beauty. Gone is their foresight and otherworldly wisdom.”
.
Bad writing is bad writing. People know it when they hear coming from a TV series or the news. A poor imagination cannot capture anyone else’s.
.
“Good or bad. Right or wrong. True or false. Doesn’t matter. The main objective is relevance.
.
So long as its trending. So long as the comments are full of angry, lost, confused people flinging insults at one another, it is doing its job.

Not as a piece of art to be enjoyed, but as a product to be consumed, and a distraction to hold the public attention while the real world falls apart.

In the age of entertainment through subscription, there is no longer any precedent to create anything objectively good.”

We can refuse this Technocracy transhumanism “reality vision” as well. It’s poorly crafted imagination, a “ludicrous, dystopian farce” that shouldn’t be taken seriously.
I love these insights. My whole life, I’ve desired for a more beautiful, ethereal, poetic version of reality. I’ve been trapped in the fake, dull, reality TV dimension for so long. I’m surrounded by people who refuse to see the ethereal beauty – my parents, my community, my culture. I miss being connected to something more beautiful – I only ever got a small morsel of it way back during my childhood. But now I realize that we’ve all been deprived for so long. We’ve all been robbed of the world we could have.
12 years here in Canada, a land where I believe there is an especially high concentration of fakeness.. Now I spend my days frantically researching all the horrors in history that could’ve led to the disappointing reality we have today. Desperately trying to make sense of it all, as if it’s the last thing I’ll ever do. Watching videos in a last-ditch attempt to educate myself – videos that I’d never be allowed to watch if I was still stuck in the school-educational-matrix.
And since the article you quoted mentions Tolkien.. I may never end up watching LOTR, but maybe I don’t have to. Maybe I can watch it all unfold in front of me, in the real world. The primordial battle between authenticity and fakeness. I hope the truth comes out, every drop of it squeezed out in the end.
What immediately came to mind when I read your comment was the Kardashians, Seinfeld, Friends.. heck, even the whole royal family is no different from a reality TV show. Completely devoid of ethereal, illuminating beauty. Indeed, their poor imagination always failed to capture my heart.
Another example: you could be watching a creative, artistic video on YouTube, or watching a playthrough of a breathtakingly amazing video game.. only to be interrupted by a Swiffer commercial, or any other commercial. So utterly bland, soulless.
It’s disheartening when you have eyes to see the difference. It feels like a curse.
When you realize how they deprive you of that ethereal beauty, you become infuriated. Helplessly subjected to the fakeness. You become so tired and drained.

Once again, I love the truth you speak. However, I don’t think it’s that easy. When you’re immersed in the sticky goo of fakeness, it feels as though you are never allowed to utter a truthful word.
As another commenter says, it’s scary when the fakeness is reinforced by trauma – both in society and within the family system. Subconsciously we know there will be awful, vicious consequences if we call out the fakeness, if we don’t accept it. Subconsciously we know our masters don’t play fair and they never have. Guilt, manipulation, violence – there’s nothing they won’t resort to. That’s why they had to use torture throughout history. Fear is powerful – it’s why so many people accept the fakeness, why so many people buy the products.
I write a lot about propaganda here.https://julianmacfarlane.substack.com/p/ukraine-winter-forecast. Propaganda only works on the culture that generated it since it depends on cultural and group values, received through social action. In other words, most people believe what their friends do. “Belief” is a social convenience. it is from group bias and need, that propaganda is generated. People are not victims. You can dis-believe if you want and suspend belief (to turn Coleridge’s concept of poetry around) — as Caitlin does. That is why the “West” thinks it is winning when it is losing. And why this Winter will bring a lot of change.
The magic of the CaitlinJohnson.com is that it can cause one to think.

The motto of England’s Royal Society, founded in 1660, is “Nullius in verba”: “Take nobody’s word for it.”
“Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it.
Believe nothing just because a belief is generally held.
Believe nothing just because it is said in ancient books.
Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin.
Believe nothing just because someone else believes it.

However being a Pink Monkey has the drawback of the others killing you.
“And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I learned that this also is vexation of spirit.
For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.”
Eclesiastes 1:17,18
“He who learns must suffer
And even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget
Falls drop by drop upon the heart…
And in our own despair, against our will,
Comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God.”

You can be smart or you can be happy, but I learnt at the age of six, knowing more than your teacher (or boss) can cause you problems.
A smart pink monkey uses makeup.
I had a terrible time in school too. I was that pink monkey. The only thing good about school was daydreaming of a more intimate, connected existence with the other beautiful souls in that classroom, who were just as bored as I was.
Indeed, they try to kill you – when you’re surrounded by spiritually dead zombies, the only thing they can do is try to convert you into one. It really is a zombie apocalypse. Many have tried to turn me. I learned to use makeup over the years – to act like them, to the point where I became them.
>> “And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I learned that this also is vexation of spirit. For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.”
That describes my life to a tee over the past few years, you wouldn’t even believe it. I have a whole story, but the summary is: I gave up everything – I gave up my beautiful heart to immerse myself in evil, immerse myself in the madness. I have become less whole. But here I am now, finally finding an online community of people who feel similarly – as I’ve been desperately searching for, for ages.
But, its obvious that democracy is the best form of Govt, the will of the people.. Those who are unfortunate enough not to have it are to be dragged into the 21st century and can work in the mines while we civilise their country, or they are they are living in a totalitarian State where we must crush their leaders and convert them to our ways so they vote with us in the UN!
Same with religion, everyone just knows that there is only the Christian God and all those other unfortunates need to be converted while we pay lip service to freedom of religion. There’s something grubby about a religion that allows two wives, never mind those funny ones that worship cows or lots of Gods.
Once everyone joins us in our narrative we have brought enlightenment to the world! The happy, laughing 1950s middle-class family, although maybe their skins are not so white. What could go wrong?
Oh, Happy, happy world!
Seeing as they (all those pagan non-democrats) just won’t do it, we will just have to bomb-bomb-bomb them until they do.
