As the US empire continues to escalate aggressions against both Russia and China, as Moscow warns that “strategic nuclear weapons” may be used to protect the territories it plans on annexing from eastern Ukraine even as Washington prepares to ramp up its proxy war spending in that nation once again, as nuclear-armed powers which refuse to compromise with each other accelerate toward direct confrontation with nobody’s foot anywhere near the brake pedal, it’s probably a good time to pause and re-evaluate our priorities in life.
One who is sincere and courageous about having an authentic relationship with reality will take seriously the very real possibility that this could all be ending fairly soon. They will face this possibility directly and let it inform the way their humanity expresses itself in the world, rather than compartmentalizing away from it and avoiding it.
It’s just a fact that based on what we know about what nuclear war would mean for life on this planet and how we’re hearing more and more often that we’re now already closer to armageddon than we were during the last cold war, humanity as we know it may not be around for much longer. Our end could very well come not in millennia or even centuries, but in months or years.
And we can just be real with ourselves about that, and let it shape the way we live our lives.
The US Empire Is Accelerating Toward Global Conflict On Two Fronts
"And that's just Russia; tensions are rapidly escalating between the US-centralized empire and China as well."https://t.co/VS9wjUh54W

To be clear, I am not telling you that you should do this. Life is hard, and there’s only so much we can each deal with. You are under no obligation to directly confront humanity’s looming proximity to nuclear annihilation and let it inform your life if that’s not where you’re at right now.
But I’m not pointing toward this line of inquiry to make people depressed and despondent; just the opposite in fact. For those who are willing and able to face our situation where it stands, it’s a useful object of contemplation which brings up a lot of highly relevant questions about how to better live life to its fullest. Questions that kind of demand answers.
Questions like, would I be happy with the way I’ve been spending my time lately if it turned out that tomorrow is the day the ICBMs start flying?
Would I be content with the things that my interest and attention have been focusing on, not just in my outward expression but silently in my mind?
What would I wish I had done? What would I wish I had done more of? What would I wish I had stopped doing?
Are there any chances I’d wish I’d have taken? Chances on love? Chances on life? Things I’ve held off on saying to people because it would require making myself more vulnerable than I am comfortable?
Am I happy with who I’ve been spending my time with? Have they been making the experience of this life more fulfilling than it would be without them in it, or less? Are they the people I’d want with me in the end?
Has my political energy and attention been spent wisely? Have I been focusing on the most important issues I could choose to focus on, knowing that nuclear war could be right around the corner? Or have I been getting lost in vapid partisan bickering, sectarian infighting, or dopey culture war distractions?
Have I done everything I possibly can to prevent a nuclear exchange between the US power alliance and Russia and/or China? Could I have helped draw more public awareness to this supremely important issue?
Have I been doing my best to really be present in each moment, or is my attention mostly consumed by my churning mental monologue? Is there anything I can do to spend more time in the present instead of in my head?
Am I really relishing my time here on this earth? Appreciating the thunderous beauty which surrounds me? Treasuring my encounters with my loved ones? Cherishing the sensory kiss of each moment? Adoring this world while it lasts? What intentions can I set for myself to help me really live this terrestrial life to its fullest?
Have I been living a life of truth and integrity? Have my behavior, speech and thinking aligned with what I know to be true? With what I believe to be valuable? With what I think of as an authentic human being?
Only you can answer these questions for yourself, but they do deserve answers. Whether this turns out to be the home stretch for humanity’s run on this planet or not, these are good things to come to terms with and integrate into our way of living. Whether we all say goodbye together or whether we end up saying goodbye separately, eventually we’ve all got to say goodbye.

MY priority would be to teach the US a lesson it would not forget so soon. The US is the cancer of our planet.
Generalisations like that are evidence of a blunt mind (to put it charitably). You should try reading Robert Anton Wilson’s books. Quantum Psychology, say, or The New Inquisition. With your apparent baseline, you might get to raise your IQ by about 100 points.
As usual, Caitlin has done it again, with lucid analysis. I also suggest you look at Larry Johnson’s site. I wrote an article on the SMO, partial mobilization, Western fascism and Russia’s shift to counter terrorism After reading Caitlin and Johnson I had to revised it. . https://julianmacfarlane.substack.com/p/how-the-west-was-won-russias-victory
Let’s face it – Putin is a creepy warmongering fuck. A far-right authoritarian with a Napoleon complex. He’d rather wipe out the human species than lose face. He’d rather gaslight the whole world than have any clarity about his own pathetic sociopathic self. Nobody was having anxieties about nuclear holocaust until Vlad decided he needed to kill people en masse in order to get it up. I wish the arsehole would sail off on his $700 million superyacht and never come back.
I think you are blaming the wrong person. It is the government of the United States that is full of creepy. warmongering fucks. It has always been full of creepy, warmongering fucks. I speak as an American who has opposed the government ever since the 1960s.
I saw your comment. It reminded me of a story I just read. Is this “creepy” enough for you? The cited article is below, along with a statement you might find interesting:
(Excerpt-Untethered Air Force general: ‘When you kill your enemy, every part of your life is better-taskandpurpose.com-9/23/22-David Rosa):
U.S.A.F. General Mike Minihan said:
“When you can kill your enemy, every part of your life is better. Your food tastes better. Your marriage is stronger.” ‘Untethered’ Air Force general: ‘When you kill your enemy, every part of your life is better’
Hear, hear! Thank you.
(Lest there be misunderstanding, I was replying to Ms. Zaremba.)
Care to seriously and honestly analyze all the nefarious acts of the US??? Putin is trying to defend Russia against Western (US/NATO) invasion – the country has been provoked for 30 years by an asinine West that believes the US is the one and only almighty.
Valid statements, and pertinent. The U.S. is the Antagonist; Russia is the Protagonist!
Some of us here are old enough to have condemned the US when it attacked Iraq in 1990/91 and earlier, and later.
The current major war is being waged by Putin. By Russia. When you constantly talk about US in this context, but are unable to condemn Russia, it becomes clear you are nothing but a propagandist, as are many here.
well, that sounds like an argument that a us-propagandist would make. is the assessment really correct?
My suggestion for you is to stop the caustic, snarky, insults (e.g.- blunt mind, IQ deficiency, etc.) and take your own suggestion (read and perform in depth research—and not cherry pick from biased sources). Provided below is research (cited sources, dates, authors when provided) related to your discussion with Vera:
Excerpt obtained from: (National Security Archive-nsarchive.gwu.edu-11/1/17-Mark Kramer et al.):
Declassified documents show security assurances against NATO expansion to Soviet leaders from Baker, Bush, Genscher, Kohl, Gates, Mitterrand, Thatcher, Hurd, Major, and Woerner
Slavic Studies Panel Addresses “Who Promised What to Whom on NATO Expansion?”
Washington D.C., December 12, 2017 – U.S. Secretary of State James Baker’s famous “not one inch eastward” assurance about NATO expansion in his meeting with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev on February 9, 1990, was part of a cascade of assurances about Soviet security given by Western leaders to Gorbachev and other Soviet officials throughout the process of German unification in 1990 and on into 1991, according to declassified U.S., Soviet, German, British and French documents posted today by the National Security Archive at George Washington University (http://nsarchive.gwu.edu).
NEXT: NATO, Russia and the Other Broken Promise – (Antiwar.com Original-12/23/21-by Ted Snider):
Excerpt: Pressured by ever encroaching NATO expansion toward its borders and increased lethal arms sales to, and flirtations with, Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin Sent the US a proposal on mutual security guarantees and an urgent request for immediate negotiations. America seems to have a problem keeping its promises.
NEXT: David Edwards asserted: “The current major war is being waged by Putin. By Russia. When you constantly talk about US in this context, but are unable to condemn Russia, it becomes clear you are nothing but a propagandist, as are many here.”
You suggest that others are “unable to condemn Russia.” Why did you not mention that it is the US that has fostered the Ukrainian Proxy War: Obama administration promoting violent protests against President Victor Yanukovich (wsws.org-US regime-change operation in Ukraine exposed in leaked diplomatic phone call-2/7/14-Patrick Oconnor), facilitating the installation of puppet (Zelensky) into usurped Ukrainian regime (see: Victoria Nuland), pernicious propaganda, billions in dollars for sponsoring and support, the US Sec. Of Def. L. Austin’s claim “to weaken Russia.”
You also claim that “many on here (this site) are propagandists.” Do you have evidence to support this? I didn’t think so: it’s only your opinion. Stop the insults unless you are prepared for reciprocity…
My last opinion: The US is the Antagonist and Russia is the Protagonist.
The info that I have is that WW III, a global nuclear war, will not take place until after about 2040 or later. This conjecture is based on something called “The Prophecy of the Popes,” which predicts that Judgement Day will occur later in the reign of the next pope of the Catholic Church (who will be St. Peter, resurrected.)
Isaac Newton predicted the year 2060. A global nuclear war is predicted in Jewish scripture in many places. See Jeremiah 25:32-33 or Isiah 66:15-16 for instance.
Religious superstition will get you nowhere.

I was talking to a weird extremist today. He told me the real truth was that Russia – not America – was waging the current major war (against Ukraine, which isn’t really a Nazi regime, he told me), and that Putin was threatening use of nuclear weapons. He even backed this up with a few so-called facts. He then went on to say the most bizarre and extreme thing of all – that Biden, the US president, hadn’t started any wars as president and that he’d actually withdrawn troops from a war that Trump promised to withdraw from but didn’t. That went too far, but I was left wondering. He also said Biden was trying to defuse the current situation because nuclear holocaust wouldn’t be good for anyone. I assumed he was joking at that point.
No American president has started any war since FDR. The military operations that took place in Cuba, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Iran, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Panama, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, Ethiopia etc. were not wars because there were no declarations of war approved by Congress. And these military operations were not fought against soldiers but enemy combatants who don’t benefit from the Geneva Convention and therefore have the unalienable right to be tortured – to make them say what the US wants to hear – and killed at will anywhere the US sees fit, starting with Gitmo and the black sites the CIA operates all over the joint. That’s the beauty of it! Please don’t spoil it…
That’s right. And the current major war isn’t a war because Mr Putin said it was just a “special military operation”, and anyway Ukrainians aren’t real people – they’re worse even than enemy combatants, they’re all Nazis. And even if people don’t believe this official Russian BS line, we have all the experts on blog comments sections like this one to give us guidance on what’s real and what isn’t.
Tell that to the millions who died in these “non wars”.
For now, global nuclear war does not threaten us. The disciples asked Jesus an interesting question: “Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall begin to be fulfilled?” (Mark 13:4, Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition) He answered: “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars. Don’t be alarmed. These things must happen, but it is not yet the fulfillment [of the sign].” (Matthew 24:6) The global nuclear war, (this will be the fulfillment of the sign of Jesus), will begin as a result of ethnic conflict: “For nation will rise against nation”, like as in 2008 in Georgia. (Matthew 24:7) In the Book of Daniel we read: “At the appointed time [the king of the north] will return back [Russian troops will return to where they were previously stationed. It also means military actions and major crisis. Not only the eurozone will break up, but also the European Union and NATO. Many countries of the former Eastern block will return to a military alliance with Russia], and come into the south [this will be the beginning of nuclear war], but won’t be as before or as afterwards [these military actions will not lead to a global nuclear war. This war will only begin after the return of the king of the north and the detonator will be an ethnic conflict (Matthew 24:7)], then the dwellers of coastlands of Kittim [the distant West] will come against him, and (he) will break down [mentally], and will go back.” (11:29, 30a) This will be a mutual slaughter and the sword of great power will be used. (Revelation 6:4) Jesus characterized it in this way: “A frightening things both and extraordinary (related to unusual phenomena) from sky powerful will be.” Because of the use of these terrible weapons there will be significant tremors along the length and breadth of the regions [of strategic importance] and famines, and pestilences. Some ancient manuscripts contain the words “and frosts”. The Aramaic Peshitta: “and will be great frosts”. (Luke 21:11) We call this today “nuclear winter”. In Mark 13:8 there are also words of Jesus: “and disorders”. The Aramaic Peshitta: “and confusion” (on the state of public order). It won’t be Armageddon. “But all these things are a beginning of birth-pains.” (Matthew 24:8, DLNT)
And you forgot the best part! He said the Lotto numbers for the next draw will be 16 12 42 86 95 37 8!
Ha ha ha ha!

Very beautiful Caitlin, I really appreciate that you find the small things in life the big thing, because it matches my joy and purpose in life; I’ve never seen fireflies flash in harmony, but it’s on my to do list now, now that I know it exists. I saw a bug once that flashed red, very rare I later learned, and an ionization trail once, also very rare, a rainbow of colors across the night sky; gifts that as one reader called it, a dirty, filthy, four letter word, be it really only three or two letters God or G_d, his/her/other gift to me; one of the biggest gifts in life to me. So, what is so bad about a God? You think that maybe C.E. and B.C.E. aren’t agrevating to read? What’s their problem? They have no God? Because, their two letter God is really Satan? The whole story behind people who would be God? Or, is it even more basic than that? Were the nonbelievers denied love? So, now having not known love there is only a jealous rage against humanity? By being able to prove that God’s creation can be destroyed, they prove that they, themselves are Gods? When God is gone, all is gone, even Satan himself is gone as Satan can only exist by God’s will that he be allowed the choice to deny the gift of God’s creation, be it spontaneous, evolution or a roll of the dice, as Einstein referred to it as not being. Anyway, I really got a kick out of your telling of the joys of life as you see it, whether your god is personal or just a bunch of equations; life is where it’s at, this sandbox called the universe, is where we learn to walk the walk, that we all talked of before we got here.
We know that God was Jesus’ father but who was Jesus’ grandfather?
In Deuteronomy 32 there is an interesting passage in which the supreme god, Elyon, has seventy lesser gods for sons, with each assigned to a different human nation. Yahweh, originally the storm god given to the Midianites, becomes incorporated into Hebrew mythology in historic times as their main deity. If Jesus made the claim that he was the literal ‘son of god’, then this would be his genealogy. He does refer to himself no less than ninety-three times in the four gospels as the ‘son of man,’ a mythic figure predicted in the book of Daniel to herald the return of Yahweh. There seems to be some confusion of the terms among later adherents who knew of Jesus and his adventures only through hearsay.
What if the Sun was your mother, and a Quasar was your father? Is it possible? Consider the following information from this NASA cited article: (Where your elements came from-10/24/17-science.nasa.gov-Jennifer Johnson-OSU):
Excerpt: The hydrogen in your body, present in every molecule of water, came from the Big Bang. There are no other appreciable sources of hydrogen in the universe. The carbon in your body was made by nuclear fusion in the interior of stars, as was the oxygen. Much of the iron in your body was made during supernovas of stars that occurred long ago and far away. The gold in your jewelry was likely made from neutron stars during collisions that may have been visible as short-duration gamma-ray bursts or gravitational wave events. Elements like phosphorus and copper are present in our bodies in only small amounts but are essential to the functioning of all known life.
Ok, you may dog-pile as you wish; but recall the context of Copernican theory and Galileo Galilei: In February-March 1616 the Catholic Church issued a prohibition against the Copernican theory of the earth’s motion. This led later (1633) to the inquisition trial and condemnation of Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) as a suspected heretic, which generated a controversy that continues to our day. (400 years ago, the Catholic Church prohibited Copernicanism-origins.osu.edu-2/2016-M.A. Finocchiaro)
Now, I have read that book, too many times, in the years leading up to my joyful apostasy. Brother, I must contradict you. There are no interesting passages in Deuteronomy.
Apart from Putin (and Trump on N. Korea), have any other world leaders in recent years threatened using nukes? So whose escalation?
Military historian Martin van Creveld was famously quoted in David Hirst’s The Gun and the Olive Branch (2003) as saying: “We possess several hundred atomic warheads and rockets and can launch them at targets in all directions, perhaps even at Rome. Most European capitals are targets for our air force. Let me quote General Moshe Dayan: ‘Fill-the-blank must be like a mad dog, too dangerous to bother.’ I consider it all hopeless at this point. We shall have to try to prevent things from coming to that, if at all possible. Our armed forces, however, are not the thirtieth strongest in the world, but rather the second or third. We have the capability to take the world down with us. And I can assure you that that will happen before Fill-the-blank goes under.”
This is known as the Samson option and it can be assumed that Martin van Creveld was only mirroring his government’s views.
So, I’m guessing your answer to my question is ‘no’.
I guess so too.
The Sampson option is intriguing; but is the Delilah option available?
Dibs on Delilah
We apologize, your request has been denied due to technical difficulties. As a measure of our generosity, please accept a consolation prize representing our deep, heartfelt appreciation: an incredibly cheap, guaranteed-to-prematurely-fail, excessively leaking, ballpoint pen. We are also delighted to inform you that we’ve included expedited shipping with your prize! Aren’t you the lucky one? From the Administrative Staff at The SCAMWELL Corporate Office: Have a wonderful day!
what do they mean when they say ‘all options are on the table’?
From what I can discern, aren’t they alluding to the fact that they are (2) utensils short of a place setting?
I see you conveniently omitted the responsible party for the Ukranian regime-change, NATO encroachment, weapon’s stockpiling, and billions in sponsorship and support; but that fact undermines your agenda. Doesn’t it? The US is the Antagonist and Russia is the Protagonist. The US is trying with all its might to maintain its dominance (Pax-Americana misnomer), and pseudo-values. Your choice is Socialism or Barbarism.
i’d add: nato encroachment combined with abm’s (anti ballistic missiles) is a nuclear threat upon itself. the pentagon (and nato) since the 90’s have been working on threatening russia with nuclear hegemony every day, it turns out.
I second the emotion…
Hitler and his close associates killed themselves in their bunker when the Russian army was closing in on them.
Suicides and murders of their children were for all who thought living in the world without their dreams of world domination left life not worth living for them.
Don’t underestimate the insane options considered viable to megalomaniacs.
Those who don’t find live worth living without extreme power seem to find death a suitable option.
Don’t jolly yourself along in thinking life will soon return to normal after an all out nuclear war.
Qui tacet consentit.
He who remains silent gives his consent.
I don’t consent to getting nuked by anybody. How’s that?
PS: or mugged or robbed for that matter…
Thank you.
I love the picture of the mushroom cloud, but unless the government is just trying to save on demolishion costs I would think that they would have swapped out our old arsenal for the newer neutron bomb technology that was used on the world trade center, Beirut harbour, etcetera, except for very locally, there is no blast, just a very bright flash and a shower of deadly neutrons zipping through our delicate bodies, destroying everything in its path. New occupants are already waiting to move into our homes just as soon as our dead carcasses can be dragged to the street to be recycled as though we were nothing but old, dried up Christmas trees.
But, on a brighter note, there is this;
Masters of Deceit: The U.S. Government’s Propaganda of Fear, Mind Control and Brain Warfare
By John W. Whitehead and Nisha Whitehead
Global Research, September 22, 2022
“It is the function of mass agitation to exploit all the grievances, hopes, aspirations, prejudices, fears, and ideals of all the special groups that make up our society, social, religious, economic, racial, political. Stir them up. Set one against the other. Divide and conquer. That’s the way to soften up a democracy.”― J. Edgar Hoover, Masters of Deceit
The U.S. government has become a master of deceit.
It’s all documented, too.
This is a government that lies, cheats, steals, spies, kills, maims, enslaves, breaks the laws, overreaches its authority, and abuses its power at almost every turn; treats its citizens like faceless statistics and economic units to be bought, sold, bartered, traded, and tracked; and wages wars for profit, jails its own people for profit, and has no qualms about spreading its reign of terror abroad.
Worse, this is a government that has become almost indistinguishable from the evil it claims to be fighting, whether that evil takes the form of terrorism, torture, drug trafficking, sex trafficking, murder, violence, theft, pornography, scientific experimentations or some other diabolical means of inflicting pain, suffering and servitude on humanity.
With every passing day, it becomes painfully clear that this is not a government that can be trusted with your life, your loved ones, your livelihood or your freedoms.

I am currently making an extra $33,000 or several months from home doing very honest and simple sports online from home. q1 Although currently I have no doubt that specifically $20845 in the remaining month comes from this domestic hobby. ~X100 ~ I am currently interacting at some point during this hobby and generating larger coins online by swaying
in the given stat processing system. . http://doingwork12.blogspot.com
I’m glad you’re gonna do sports. Honest and simple sports too. Good for you! Honest sport is so difficult to find these days what with the corruption, doping et al. However, when the time comes, remember that Winston Churchill, asked in the winter of his life how he explained his exceptional longevity, replied: “Sport. No sport”…
The comments are vastly entertaining, aliens, JFK conspiracy, limited nuclear exchange, bad Zelensky, etc. My father and his ‘greatist’ generation fought WW2, trust me, they weren’t great, just delusional, traumatized men. They all said goodbye. WW2 was only 77 years ago, but it naturally fades, except as depicted by Hollywood. Many people of my era dreamed of nuclear annihilation as children. That trauma has left the collective consciousness even though monsters like Hillary Clinton have told us for years that all options are on the table. As a leader, would you destroy the world, kill everyone, for politics? That’s a lonely place to be. There is an American singer, who now owns a chain of steakhouses, who had a song promoting the incineration of a country with thermonuclear devices. Clearly, he was separated from the felt trauma of mass death and nuclear winter. It’s almost impossible for humans to live consciously with their own demise, or even to hold the memory of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, even as politicians currently rattle doomsday sabers.
Randy Newman said it all in 1972. Go cipher.
Hating on Russia is a hundred year hate. When future American travelers walking the interstate trade routes commiserate around campfires enjoying evening meals of sauteed squirrel, roasted plover and beans, one thing you can count on is America will still be hating on Russia.
–
When nuclear cancer drops the average age of death to 35 you can count on it. America will still be hating on Russia.
–
Right now hating on Russia in America can even help you get laid.
–
Russia is Americas’ boogyman. Imaginary competition. A mirror reflecting American flaws. Hating on Russia fills a primal need in America.
–
When Americans can’t explain why they hate on Russia you should understand.
–
Do you remember your bedtime stories?
You confuse “hating Russia” with hating creepy authoritarian warmongers like Putin. And the creepy old Kremlin men & mob thugs and billionaire oligarchs that enable him. Same with Trump. Not about Russia. The Russian people are struggling like everyone else.
“creepy authoritarian warmongers like Putin” (…) “and the creepy billionaire oligarchs that enable him”… You mean Biden? And no, people hate Russia, Russian spies, the Russian mob, Russian disinformation, Russian bots (that change the course of elections in an otherwise flawless electoral system), Russian pogroms from the past, Russian communism (which most people in the US think is still the law of the land), Russian tennis men and women, Russian football players, Russian Olympic athletes, Russian ballet dancers… They hate everything Russian, each and every Russian person and drink their vodka martini (shaken not stirred) without vodka because they are hypnotized to do so by the MIC-sponsored corporate alpha wave box.
Nope, nope, nope. Most of the examples you give are apparatus of the authoritarian Russian state. People hate that. Distinct from that are ordinary Russian people struggling like everyone else. That’s the majority of the Russian people. Btw, Biden hasn’t threatened using nukes. That’s all Putin.
Since you seem to like hypocrisy, Biden is not fighting a war in Ukraine. Why would he threaten using nukes?
You forgot the cats. Russian cats cause wars too you know!
Just ask David! Thank goodness they got banned.
The CIA runs the cats. The CIA trained all Russian cats, just as it trained the hollow-earth Ukrainian Nazis in 2014.
Our KGB cats are better than your CIA pussies. They shall dominate the world!
the russian people are probably pretty indoctrinated.
Oh please. The most indoctrinated people on the planet are Americans.
hmmm, let’s look for some examples in the comments.
Somebody didn’t shoot Hitler when it would have been easy. I wonder how long the list would be today. I’m sure it wouldn’t be easy. Garland Nixon & Alex M. agreed our fate will be decided by the wisdom and rational thinking of the Chinese & Russians. It made me think of kindergarten teachers herding toddlers with torches.
You are clueless about America. Things are not like used to be in the 70s. I live in a small town on East coast where you can see Ukrainian flags supporting it. I cannot go to down town start a public discussion without risking my integrity for nothing. You and Tim are welcome to try it here but look at that, you cannot do it in Australia either. So spare me from your grains of wisdom about this topic.
Tim is American, smartass. And I know all about Ellenburg, New York. I have friends in upstate New York who are appalled by its very existence. Calling Caitlin clueless is a disgusting smear. I’d say that if anyone is clueless, it is more than likely to be you.
Come here in New London with Tim and CJ. Good luck. I’ll gladly pay the bailout. No grudges.
You’ve got to admire Maya, the Illusion, as it always produces more tricks to take you away from the here and now which is the only reality.
Of course, one can always worry about the future. Life is what’s happening while one does that. One can also gnaw one’s nails to make it more effective and with the other hand pray God who, luckily, has nothing better to do at that very moment than to listen to one.
It must be emphasized that one is a very important bit of flesh and bones living, along with 7,9 billion fellow bits – and 10,000 trillion ants, not even mentioning the elephants – on a speck of dust shooting at 67,000 miles per hour through the Milky Way.
Now my neighbour is 90 years old. She got cancer 40 years ago. It didn’t get her. Covid didn’t get her even though she was right in the bull’s eye. The vaccine didn’t get her. She loves walking and fell twice this summer. At that age normally, if you fall, you break your femoral neck and bye bye. She didn’t break anything. My question is: indestructible as she seems, will she pull through nuclear Armageddon?
They say Keef Richards will. And cockroaches. There too, we have to get our priorities right. Cockroaches can survive a nuclear blast but not a slap from a newspaper, which goes to show that newspapers are more toxic than nuclear blasts.
Nuclear blast scares usually come from newspapers too, which confirms.
Here’s a bucket list of what may happen to one before they get a chance to get blasted by a nuclear holocaust or slapped by a newspaper: they may fall in the staircase, in the street, from a window while cleaning the panes and not concentrating on the here and now, lose a loved one to a snake bite, a wasp sting, a kangaroo – it happened last week to a 77 year old man. Hadn’t happened for 85 years – in his lifetime so to speak – but there you are… Never say never…
One can get killed as their car swerves and hits a 1/ parked car 2/ tree 3/ bridge 4/ train 5/ plane (rare but it almost happened in James Bond’s Skyfall) 6/ giant octopus – that’s never happened but then again neither has a nuclear holocaust, so you never know – better be safe than sorry and prepare for being hit by a giant octopus falling from a flying saucer… Likely one will do one’s best. I know I will!
It’s always important to keep one’s motivations in check too. Doesn’t doomsaying confer some kind of overreaching power to one? George Ohsawa, the founder of macrobiotics, was convinced that he had a mission to save the world and that he had foresight. In the summer of 1963, he “saw” JFK assassinated. He wrote to the New York Times to warn them, which of course fell on deaf ears… Then JFK was assassinated and after hearing the news, Ohsawa scolded his disciples saying, “Why didn’t you do anything?”
The chief lunatic in Kiev back in 2021 was crowing about getting nukes all the while surrounded by the likes of Kamala and others in Munich. Nobody sat him down and told him to shut up and fly right. Just the other day this same lunatic called on the west to launch a first strike! The same lunatic we are told day in and day out is a glowing representation, nay…. the very second coming of a “democratic” Christ! And what do our erstwhile crazies in our collective western insane asylums have to say about that? Why it’s all about doubling down and lurching ever closer to the nuclear abyss.
To hell with the world establishments, they rule with violence and coercion, and because of their vanity, ignorance and callousness they will, if they are not checked drag the whole human race down with them, how much more do we really need to know about them to make the obvious conclusion, rather than allow ourselves to be led like sheep to the slaughter.
Speaking of a blast, they (and you know who they are) used to say, “if you take LSD, you’ll damage your chromosomes.” Or “you’re just escaping reality!” And now…they attempt to strong-arm you into taking the VAERS non-vaccine (that has multiple adverse effects, not to mention graphene oxide, nano-spheres, etc.), and you don’t even get a buzz! In retrospect, escaping reality (more manipulation, lies, and fearmongering), with an expanded sense of consciousness, was a phenomenal and magnificent enlightening ambiance; especially when juxtaposed to nuclear detonation (that’s a real downer). War sucks and so do people who profit from it. Are you getting off yet? Me either…wait…I think I am. Whoa…
Apparently “they” lost Kennedy when he started taking LSD – then legal – provided by Timothy Leary to one of JFK’s mistresses, Mary Pinchot-Meyer, who was part of a group of activist ladies bent on getting DC politicians tripping to move them to advocate world peace. Which Kennedy actually attempted to do – in spite of what Noam Chomsky has to say – and so “they” killed him. Interestingly she was also murdered the next year and her friend Ben Bradlee, the Washington Post editor, saw the CIA’s chief of counter-intelligence James Jesus Angleton get out of her house with her diary in his hand, which was then never recovered. When her husband Cord Meyer, a former CIA hot shot, was asked on his death bed if he knew who had killed her – the case had not been solved -, he allegedly replied: “The same bastards who killed JFK”.
Much evidence strongly suggests JFK intended to drawdown the Vietnam conflict. Actions taken by LBJ, post assassination (to escalate the conflict), suggest establishment complicity in assassination. Dialogue between (Khrushchev, Castro, JFK) suggest direction of detente (Warhawks averse to this possibility). Sam Giancana and Ilk (Chicago) facilitated JFK election success (but expected quid-pro-quo). Bobby Kennedy was a thorn in the side of mob, and interpreted as insult, in light of election support/contribution (by mob) for JFK. JFK had friends, but even more enemies (e.g.- MIC, CIA, J. E. Hoover, S. Giancana, anti-Castro Cuban insurgents…). The power-base conspired and intervened (regime change) to maintain power, war-profit, and agenda. And just think…they expect us to accept the “magic bullet” theory, etc. It seems we missed a golden opportunity for cooperation and peace. Now look at us…
I visited the spot in the Texas School Book Depository whence Oswald allegedly shot. It looked like if you were gonna hit anything where the motorcade was, you had to be the new William Tell, which Oswald apparently was not.
All a part of the cabal’s plan. You’ve got to have a scapegoat (e.g.- China did it, Russia did it, Iran’s a monster, Dems did it, Pubs did it, it’s a witch hunt, your call is important to us…). They have the art of distraction/deflection down to a science. Oswald, post apprehension and during a transfer, verbalized, “I’m a Patsy.” His response seemed too relaxed and convincing, in light of context, to be the perpetrator. And wasn’t it convenient how J. Ruby slipped into the lair so easily? It’s almost as if his entrance was facilitated, by his conspirators, to tie up loose strings? The ease at which this transpired is right up there with the “magic bullet” theory. I think this is the moment that they piss down your back and tell it’s raining…
Americans fought for their independence from the British Empire and won…. Now, Donbas fights for its independence from Ukraine and will win as well… There is nothing wrong when human common sense prevails ….
Caitlin your writing just gets better and better. I’m going to sit down and write my answers out to these questions, they are the important ones. Thank you
Thought-provoking, sobering, and Insightful…
It does look like they are planning on killing most of us.
Since there is no plan for climate change that includes us, what else can we conclude?
We delude ourselves into thinking we can control ourselves enough to prevent ultimate catastrophe, but it is not real and not true at all.
We have failed on the global warming, pollution and resource depletion front – we know we’ve failed, yet we continue doing the things that cause the problems.
We have destroyed many parts of our habitat, from multiple species of animal and plant life wiped out, to large tracts of land and oceans. Even our atmosphere has been affected.
We have failed to stop wars, conflicts, and violence. Utterly.
We have developed weapons and technologies – all of which can easily destroy us many times over, and only loosely control them – prime examples: bioweapons, nuclear weapons, and artificial intelligence.
We have failed to learn any of the lessons history can teach us. So, we cannot realistically expect to survive as a species much longer.
We don’t deserve this extraordinary and wonderful planet we live on. We are all morally, if not also causally, responsible – whether we like it or not. We can’t point the finger and blame others, as much as we would like to.
To Ms. Johnstone: this is by far the piece of its kind I have yet read — and as an 82-year-old near-lifelong journalist (editor/writer/photographer) — I have read many more such essays than I can count.
Obviously you recognize — as do I — our Masters purposefully apocalyptic escalation is their public declaration they are at last sufficiently fuehrer-bunkered to survive the bottomless horrors they have long been planning to inflict on all the rest of us.
Thank you for daring verbalize what anyone with the proverbial lick-of-sense already knows in their subconscious.

To Mr. Senne: What you describe is our infinitely Evil, fully nazified Masters’ Final Solution to their two most pressing problems: terminal climate change (aka “global warning”) and the vast, potentially revolutionary armies of “surplus workers” in the 99 Percent.
Precisely as our Masters intend, the looming thermonuclear/chemical/bio-war apocalypse will exterminate approximately 90 percent of us. It will impose nuclear winter to counter the global warning and enable the lifetime enslavement of all surviving 99 Percenters.
Question is, are these Masters merely earthlings whose serial-killer moral imbecility enables them to knowingly embrace infinite Evil?
Or are they indescribably vile creatures from elsewhere, cosmically omnipotent monsters who have already subjugated our global Ruling Class and thereby reduced our Masters to mere overseers on Slave Plantation Earth?
(Significant how my concluding, extensively link-footnoted blog post on this very topic – demanding to know whom [or what] our true Masters truly are — was just destroyed, not only its text, but all its research notes as well, this by an allegedly “impossible” word-processing disaster.)
Let us therefore hope the Gaia Hypothesis is real — that our Mother Earth is “alive, conscious and self-regulating” enough to avenge what is being done to us and to Her.
As for us, the 99 Percent, the very best we can now hope for is instant vaporization at Ground Zero. That’s because the alternative — slow death by radiation poisoning — is medically the most agonizing execution possible.
Oops, once again haste and dyslexia reduce my 145-IQ self to drooling idiocy. The first graf of my comment should read, “To Ms. Johnstone: this is by far the BEST piece of its kind I have yet read…”
(I maintained my career only by chain-smoking cigarettes; nicotine, a potent neurotransmitter, momentarily alleviates dyslexia, and by smoking approximately two packs of cigarettes during an eight-hour newspaper or magazine work day, I usually managed to function acceptably, occasionally scooped the world and even won a dozen l awards for my reporting and photography. But medical problems forced me to permanently quit smoking in 1995, and the resultant denial of nicotine afflicts me with the same irremediably intellect-crippling devastation quitting smoking inflicts nearly all dyslexics — that is, it permanently nullifies most of my former talent. Thus writing something that might have taken my smoking self no more than maybe five minutes now takes me hours or re-reading just to make sure I’ve gotten it right. And tonight I didn’t have the time.)
Sorry…
Most people are simply caught up in their everyday struggles. Outside of that it’s just the usual doom and gloom. Nothing to worry about.
Depending on the context, small strategic nukes, or max yield ICBMs, an escalation is probably inevitable. The U.S., I feel sure, has plans on the table for a preemptive first strike. Russia has the “Dead-Hand” (as I recall reading), prepared for such a scenario. However, once these weapons are released, by either side, the perceived sense of being overwhelmed, and fear of defeat, may result in a full-retaliatory response. It’s difficult to know. If this happens, chaos will ensue, along with anarchy. Priorities? There are so many variables involved that simplification is tedious, improbable, and uncertain (although the psychopaths at think-tanks, such as RAND, think they have the answer). How do you prepare for Nuclear-Winter; shit, this country (US) can barely fix a fucking pothole? The ruling class of the US has all but abandoned its citizens (as they bunker-down with Fembots, and security and physiological needs in place). What’s next? We used to have a saying during the previous cold war: bend over and kiss your ass good buy!
The Russians have been warning about this for decades. Who was listening?
They don’t care; and are perverted, warmongering, profiteering addicts. The only thing they get emotionally involved about is losing their power, control, and money. Russia and China are implacable opponents; they won’t condone Washington’s continued interference. Washington is reckless and unreasonable. One way or the other, multipolarity is here to stay.
This is a home run!
What am I about? I’m old (77) and facing my mortality a bit each day. Why am I here? Is it to watch more football? celebrity gossip? Argue politics? Or love more in depth the people that care about me, that I care about?
I’ve been told for as long as I can remember, to do as I’ve been told, first by my parents, then teachers, then bosses, even my wife. It really hard to know who I am and what I think is important bc I’ve been pushed off of my agency for so long. I want to be a nurturing influence, to help make things grow, to find harmony w/in and w/out, to bathe in Nature as often as possible. I really dont need much. My sadness for the future is sometimes overwhelming but awareness is the first step in movement, so I deal w/it.
I think I want to make signs, get out on the street corner, find fellow travelers, laugh, cry, and connect. Is that too much?
Unfortunately, nuclear war is a lot more survivable than most people believe. Sure, tens or hundreds of millions of people will die, but so what? The elite classes will survive. Government will continue. Taxes will be collected and eventually the garbage will be collected.
It might happen something like this. Several dozens of nukes will be deployed. Some major population centers will be flattened. Those not killed outright will be left to die as there is no practical way to reach them and treat their injuries. Radiation will get some more, but in a month or so most of that will be gone. In a few weeks the climate will start to cool followed by crop failures and other problems. Stockpiles of food will be gathered to keep the elites and their retainers fed. Sorry about the rest. In a few years, maybe three or so, the weather will return to normal. Crops can be planted on uncontaminated soil. Contracts for rebuilding will be let. That means jobs and more importantly profits. Like the plague years those who succumbed with leave their wealth to the survivors. School children will be taught that as bad as it was, nuclear war was a necessary outcome of a world that just wouldn’t see it our way. And life will muddle on.
Agreed. I keep reading one article after another saying the US is pushing for war. The US is provoking it. Well I’m a US citizen and nobody asked me. It is only a FEW Americans pushing this. Some individuals in the state department, some in the CIA, some weapons manufacturers, some politicians, etc.. They all have bunkers prepared with years worth of supplies. There are millions of gullible cheering sheeple, but they are just following the lead. The handful of people pushing this believe that THEY THEMSELVES (not all Americans) will win and survive. The rest of us are expendable pawns. I can even envision them sitting in their bunkers sipping champagne and toasting each other over their victory since only 100 million Americans were killed but over 300 million of the enemy were killed.
War is an unwinnable situation for everyone, no matter who thinks they “WON”.
War is a waste of humans, resources needed for survival, and a sustainable planet.
Who ever thinks war is the answer is pathological!
You and I both know that those motherfuckers will be miserable hiding out in their bunkers. That’s why you and I haven’t built our own silly little makeshift version.
i don’t understand how things will be limited to ‘several dozens of nukes’.
