Listen to a reading of this article:

Antiwar libertarian hero Scott Horton has a viral tweet going around which reads simply, “Biden’s refusal to attempt to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine is the greatest scandal in American political history.”

Kind of smacks you in the face, doesn’t it? I’ve never seen anyone put it quite like that before, but if you think about it, how could it not be true?

It’s just a simple fact that the Biden administration is actually hindering diplomatic efforts to negotiate an end to this war, and that it has refused to provide Ukraine with any kind of diplomatic negotiating power regarding the possible rollback of sanctions and other US measures to help secure peace. Washington’s top diplomats have consistently been conspicuously absent from any kind of dialogue with their counterparts in Moscow.

Statements from the administration in fact indicate that they expect this war to drag on for a long time, making it abundantly clear that a swift end to minimize the death and destruction is not just uninteresting but undesirable for the US empire. Ukrainian media report that UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson told Zelensky on behalf of NATO powers that “even if Ukraine is ready to sign some agreements on guarantees with Putin, they are not.”

And this isn’t just another war. This is a proxy war being waged by one of the world’s two top nuclear forces against the world’s other top nuclear force. This is more serious than Iraq. It is more serious than Vietnam. It is more serious than any US war that has happened in the lifetime of anyone likely to be reading these words, because Russia has increasingly valid reasons to believe its very existence as a nation is being threatened. This is therefore a war that could very easily result in the death of everyone on earth.

The US Secretary of “Defense” has openly said that America’s goal is to “weaken” Russia in this war. Biden himself has made statements which can only be interpreted as calls for regime change in Moscow. US officials have been leaking to the press claims that US intelligence has directly facilitated the killing of Russian generals and the sinking of a Russian war ship.

The imperial political/media class are not even denying that this is a US proxy war anymore. In an alarmingly rapid pivot from the mass media’s earlier position that calling this a proxy war is merely an “accusation” promoted solely by Russia, we’re now seeing the use of that term becoming more and more common in authorized news outlets. The New Yorker came right out and declared that the US is in “a full proxy war with Russia” the other day, and US congressman Seth Moulton recently told Fox News that the US is at war with Russia through a proxy.

“At the end of the day, we’ve got to realize we’re at war, and we’re not just at war to support the Ukrainians,” Moulton said. “We’re fundamentally at war, although it’s somewhat through proxy, with Russia. And it’s important that we win.”

How fast did that happen? How fast were we paced from “It’s Russian propaganda to call this a proxy war” to “Obviously this is a proxy war and we need to make sure we win”? Fast enough to make your head spin, that’s for sure.

And it’s not just a proxy war, it’s a proxy war the US knowingly provoked. We know now that the US intelligence cartel had clear vision into Russia’s plans to launch this invasion, which means they also knew how to prevent it. A few low-cost maneuvers like promising not to add Ukraine to NATO as well as promising Zelensky that the US would protect him and his government from the violent fascist factions who were threatening to kill him if he honored the Minsk agreements and made peace with Russia as Ukrainians elected him to do. That’s all it would have taken.

Many, many western experts warned for many years that the actions of the US and NATO would lead to the confrontation we’re now being menaced with. There was every opportunity to turn away from this war, and instead the US-centralized empire hit the accelerator and drove right into it. Knowingly.

The whole thing was premeditated. All with the goal of weakening Russia and effecting regime change in Moscow in order to secure US unipolar hegemony.

https://twitter.com/RnaudBertrand/status/1498491107902062592

The Biden administration was the last in a long line of decision makers to choose this world-threatening confrontation over peace. There was an opportunity to avert this horror, and that opportunity wasn’t taken.

Allowing the world to come this close to nuclear war already makes Biden the worst US president since Bush. At least. History may well show his to be the single most depraved presidency of all time.

Preventing nuclear war is a US president’s single most important job. It’s so important you shouldn’t even really have to talk about it, because it’s so self-evidently the number one priority. And this administration is just rolling the dice on nuclear conflict with increasing frequency every day.

Even if humanity survives this standoff (and the one with China that’s next in line), Biden will still have been an unforgivably depraved president for allowing it to get this close. There’s no excuse whatsoever for just casually rolling the dice on all terrestrial life like this.

Just seriously meditating on what nuclear war is and what it means should be enough to show anyone that any flirtation with the remotest possibility of inflicting it on our world is unforgivable. It’s the worst crime anyone could possibly commit short of actual nuclear war.

Now all we can do is hope some small spark of sanity ignites deep within our species before we snuff ourselves out for good.

We’ve long realized that Biden is your typical sonavabitch, there’s no surprises with this walking fecal mass. He’s garbage and we have just turned the other cheek. Pretty obvious we share the blame for his insanity and insane acts. It’s time for us to activate and actualize. Goddam it, let’s do it!

  2. Zelensky campaigned on the promise of maintaining the Minsk agreements. The CIA and trained the Azov battalion to create a justification for the invasion. You are blaming Biden on not his handlers? Zelensky and Kolomosky wanted a Greater Israel. The way to do that is to provoke Russia, so as they can have an escape goat, then pass anti-semitism laws to gain complete control, while having the population displaced. If the Ukrainians ever found out who the real culprit was they would be driven out forever. Biden and others could not care, they just wanted the money from Burmisa and launder that money for future elections.

Biden could be the president that brings us WW III, or more likely Putin in the current scenario. All the leaders are missing an important message from history: every empire eventually faces the war it desperately seeks to avoid – its own destruction. They ignore history and logic. If they continue to do so humanity is doomed. The answer lies in acceptance that power – so important to rulers – is an illusion.

    1. “Biden could be the president that brings us WW III, or more likely Putin in the current scenario.”

You should consider reading the article before commenting on it.

“All the leaders are missing an important message from history: every empire eventually faces the war it desperately seeks to avoid – its own destruction.”

You post that nonsensical mantra everywhere, don’t you? As anyone paying attention can readily see, the U.S. empire is run by a cult of demon-possessed Satanists who do not seek to avoid war. They do not seek to avoid their own destruction. Obviously, they would prefer destruction to failure; accept it.

  4. One thing that an awful lot of commentators tend to miss, or avoid – and this unfortunately includes Caitlin – is what the Ukrainians want.

All of this talk about “It’s the fault of the US” or “The US isn’t negotiating a peace treaty” entirely ignores what the country that has been invaded wants. It robs Ukraine of agency and essentially treats it as the plaything of Russia and the US.

Now, of course, it may well be that Ukraine *is* the plaything of Russia and the US – but it seems hypocritical for opinion authors to blame the US for treating Ukraine as a plaything on one hand, and then on the other hand saying that the US should basically ignore what Ukraine might want, and for the US to seek to negotiate peace with Russia.

I often disagree with the actions of the US, but it seems to me that there are an awful lot of people out there who would roundly condemn things the US does, but are willing to excuse those things when Russia does them. If the US shouldn’t do those things, then it surely follows that Russia shouldn’t do those things, either.

    1. Nicely thought out. I saw where Joe Biden has revived “Lend-Lease”, the war program that pauperized Britain. The Brits had no choice, just as the Ukrainians have no choice, and ended up with a huge debt after WW II. According to Michael Hudsons’s ‘Super Imperialism’, one MP complained that the Americans are “treating us as if we lost the war.”
At any rate, if the Ukraine emerges as a country after all this war, it will have such a huge debt that land sales will probably only cover part of it.
It is ironic that the US not only precipitated this war, but will profit mightily from it.

    2. What an absurd comment. Go away, concern troll.

  5. Considering the fact that this is essentially a civil war between two former members of the Soviet Union, we have no business getting involved. In fact, our current involvement constitutes an extreme threat to our national security. As such, Biden has risen to number 3 on my list of the 6 worst presidents of my lifetime. The complete list:

    1. Harry Truman
    2. Dick Cheney
    3. Joe Biden
    4. Ronald Reagan
    5. Richard Nixon
    6. Donald Trump

    1. President Dick Cheney?

      1. Technically I suppose Regent would be more correct.

  6. Excellent assessment but I don’t think this crisis is for anyone or government to solve. It’s almost as if it had to happen being beyond the ability of mere human endeavour to even approach an answer. I have been here before, in 1962, and the mass trauma that this created in our youthful minds has stuck with us Boomers all our lives.

I said at the time: “Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die”. I believe this was the fundamental cause of all the 1960s craziness – a kind of unplanned ‘mass formation psychosis’ which has been passed down to later generations resulting in the extremes of even denying the XX and XY chromosomes that nature has decreed. The abomination of Sodom & Gomorrah has got nothing on this, our 21st century depravity.

Let the bombs fall and let the survivors start again from a rationale based on something more than just the worship of Leucippus and Democritus,. You are going to need a tin hat:

    1. “Excellent assessment but I don’t think this crisis is for anyone or government to solve. It’s almost as if it had to happen being beyond the ability of mere human endeavour to even approach an answer.”

Did you happen to read the article you’re commenting on? The Satanic U.S. “government” provoked this war and the Satanic U.S. “government” is dong everything it can to prolong the war. The Satanic U.S. government is not in the business of “solving” such international crises; it is in the business of creating them.

  7. Thanks to the Marshall Plan, which poured on Europe all the crap made in Hollywood at a cheap price because it had already paid for itself, I became a fan of western movies. Not that they were very good, most of them, but I loved the horses. That’s how you become addicted. Then came Sergio Leone who propelled the genre in a whole different dimension by inventing the three-sided “duel” in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Let’s call it “thruel”.

And then came Joe Biden who invented the double “thruel”.

On one hand, we’ve got the US-Europe-Russia “thruel”. At first sight, it looks like the US and Europe are allied against Russia with Ursula hellbent on sanctioning Putin into oblivion.

If you zoom a little however, you have to admit that Europe has nothing to gain from the sanctions, because they won’t change anything Putin does, but has an awful lot to lose, starting with the rising prices of food and energy, the latter projected onto the industry.

Would the US cry rivers over a loss of competitivity of European, and especially upmarket German exportations?

Now, everybody’s sending weapons to Ukraine knowing full well that either 1/ they will be destroyed on arrival or 2/ they will fall into Russian hands before they can be brought to the front – especially now that Russia has bombed the railways – only enriching the Russian army and/or 3/ they will be disappeared by the Ukrainian mafias and sold on the black market to Kosovo, a CIA backyard, to be dispatched to US-backed terrorist groups worldwide – including missiles.

Of course, most of the weapons the Europeans are sending are obsolete and then they turn to the US to rebuild their stocks with up-to-date stuff to be able to fight Putin when he tries to invade all of Europe, which he will according to the MIC salesmen who’ve got it from sources speaking on condition of anonymity because they’re not allowed to talk to strangers.

All this is good for the US and it would be even better if Putin did go to war against Western Europe. Yummie! Years of arms selling ending with a new Marshall Plan that would put the American economy in a fantastic shape for decades, like last time.

Alas, let’s not dream, he won’t…

And then there’s Biden’s US-China-Russia “thruel”. Unless the US can put a wedge between Russia and China, which is unlikely because they ain’t no fools, it has nothing to gain from that one.

However, we find a tirade applying here in another Sergio Leone western, Once Upon a Time in the West, when Frank says to “Harmonica” in essence: “You’re right, I could never be a businessman like M. Morton. He would have ignored you and moved on but I just can’t move on knowing that you’re alive”.

And he’s willing to risk his life to try and snuff him out. Biden’s improvement on that one is that he’s turned the showdown nuclear.

    1. I would like to express my gratitude that the US government spends so little on public education. That gives my children a chance to grow up decent human beings who can think independently of the US’s worst President ever.

  8. Just follow the money and powered deep state interests. Biden was slipped into office as the # 1 shill for the ruling elite and is following step by step to their diktats . He has no moral or ethical backbone and his corruptible resume has been brought up to date with the scandal of his sons dealings in Ukraine . Domestically he mouths out reforms he knows will never reach fruition but look tempting.

    1. Yep, war is good – can’t think of one single down side. Good for the environment too – recycling weapons. Profits are up and in years to come urchins will be feeding their families by scavenging metal from former battlefields.
I note your use of the descriptors ‘moral’ and ‘ethical’. Tsk, tsk!
As for Biden’s nepotism, well… who has hasn’t had a son or daughter or niece or nephew that needs a helping hand now and again? I’m sure they’ll reciprocate by changing his nappies.
I’m not advocating violence… but… but… the top of the tree does need a little thinning.

  9. This is the anvil that Beau of the 5th promotes with such passion, the one that will break the Russian hammer. Not for those who want to remain in denial, but this is what war looks like, and this what my country’s best propagandists want more of. And Beau is the best of best. 18+

It will be years before we learn exactly what the Russian plan was at the start of the war regarding Kiev, but from Day 1, it was obvious to anyone with any military backround what the primary target was of Russian invasion at the level of operations, it was the Ukranian forces in the Donbass. They were to be fixed in place, and when the time came, they were to be annihilated by heavy weaponry.
    Kindergarten.
The muddy season – Rasputista – is coming to an end. This will make it easier for Russian tanks and BMPs and other fighting vehicles to add their fires to the equation, to then roll over the trenches of the dead and traverse cross-country and on to the next. 18+

This war is over. This is now a mop up operation. But as we’ve all learned from history, just because it is a mop up operation doesn’t mean that 10 of thousands of humans aren’t fated to die very violent and completely unnecessary deaths.

  10. This is one of the biggest reasons I refused to vote for HRC in 2016 and refused to vote for Joe in 2020. It was clear in 2016 that Killery was out for Russia. She made little pretense otherwise. Though Joe didn’t make as much of it, it was clear even back in the Obomer days that the dems were out for Russia and China.

There’s really little or nothing left to say. Caity’s oft-repeated message is abundantly clear. Even should the American majority suddenly wake up and insist on the ending of this war and normalization of relations with Russia, it is unlikely that the administration would pay much attention to what ‘we the people’ want, for such a following of demands would be in direct opposition the the U.S. plan of hegemonic domination worldwide.
My age is such that I’ve long been prepared, when it happens, to kiss my mortal ass good-bye. However, I’m in no hurry and have no desire that it be at the hands of an long-acknowledged war monger like Joe Biden, or by a military that sees it job as the continuance of world expansion, with a goal of total domination.
My position was stated by John Lennon: “Imagine all the people sharing all the world.” that’s not even a consideration for our political or military leadership. so, neither is likely to be appreciated nor found desirable by me.

  12. Yikes, then JFK was the worst president as he almost blew up the place dick measuring with Khrushchev. Today is mother’s day in the US, time for the women in the west to demand peace and the end of US empire.

What is increasingly clear, day by day, is that the West, under Joker Biden’s atrociously nearsighted leadership, has intentionally provoked a global economic confrontation with Eurasia – which it is badly losing – that is going to produce some real losers, primarily in EU nations.

Russia signed a death warrant on EU economies this week – an economic sanctions reprisal order prohibiting sale of any and all of her commodities to targeted “unfriendly” nations, companies and individuals, whose economies are absolutely dependent on key Russian commodities including grains and minerals. Gas will be sold only for rubles paid in RussIan banks (not Western banks where it can be seized) under existing contracts – which probably wont be renewed when they expire.

In consequence, Europeans face starvation, blackouts, inability to heat their homes, idled major industries and mass unemployment the likes of which haven’t been seen since the end of WW II when the entire continent lay in ruins from the war.

The advise from global economic analyst and reporter Gonzalo Lira to Europeans is simple: get the hell out of there before next winter – because conditions are going to be really bad, worse than anything experienced since your grandparents’ time.

What did their idiot leaders think was going to happen when they stole $285 billion of Russian foreign exchange money??? You can’t steal what you paid for goods and then expect Russia to keep sending goods!

The West has lost its economic war on Russia because Russia is autonomous – possessing all necessary commodities, energy and domestic industry to be entirely capable of existing completely independent from the rest of Europe – whereas Europe most definitely isn’t!! Which should’ve been rather obvious to anyone not living in a fantasy world long before this stupidity began.

The US will also loose much from this conflict, and is already facing runaway inflation and staring a near certain economic recession in the face – both exacerbated by the Fed raising interest rates. And it is in real danger of the US dollar being replaced as the world’s reserve currency via alternative financial systems for world trade launched by China, Russia, India and other nonaligned nations – which will have disastrous consequences on US ability to finance its gross trade inbalance or bloated military on the backs of other nations’ economies as it has in the past via the now dead petrodollar.

    1. As Mark Twain pointed out, it’s very difficult to make predictions, especially about the future. Most of these sanctions are probably destined to be short-lived but if worse comes to worst, let’s not forget that the Europeans discovered America only because the Ottoman Empire had denied them access to the Mediterranean after the fall of Constantinople in 1453, which was their traditional route to the riches of the Orient brought to Damascus, Aleppo, Istanbul, Petra and Alexandria by the Silk Road caravans..

  14. I thinks it’s about time Klaus Schwab stepped in to remind Biden’s handlers that they need to quit stepping on their dicks, back off and let the Great Reset unfold. Some kids just can’t wait for Christmas and have to go and rip open all the presents under the tree. Guess we can’t complain, though. We’ve let these spoiled brats have their way for too long and now they’re about to screw everything up big-time.

  15. “Now all we can do is hope some small spark of sanity ignites deep within our species before we snuff ourselves out for good.”

And what happens AFTER “some small spark of sanity ignites deep within our species”? Just exactly WHAT does “our species” then do that is different than “our species” did BEFORE 3, 2, 1, IGNITION!! and, presumably, LIFT-OFF!! What does “LIFT-OFF!!” consist of?

Don’t you find it amazing that We, the Already Ignited, We, the Already Woke, We Who Already Understand What’s Going On continue to vote our warmongering, false-narrative-creating oppressors’ bought-and-paid-for R and D agents into public offices time and time again?

What, exactly, does the word “revolution” mean? Is there universal agreement on what the word “revolution” means? If there is, please tell me precisely HOW people “revolt”? What would the BEHAVIOR of “revolting” be? Would We, the Ignited, We, the Woke, We Who Already Understand What’s Going On be picking up guns and running down the streets with our hair on fire, each of us yelling in perfect synchronicity with the collective “I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take it any more!”? Would We, the Already Ignited, would We, the Woke, We Who Already Understand What’s Going On be guillotining some VIPs on the White House lawn? Would We, the Already Ignited, would We, the Woke, would We Who Already Understand What’s Going On be marching hand in hand down Penn. Ave. demand, demand, demanding that the Elite behave better, or else? (“or else” just exactly WHAT?!)

Here’s what you, me, We, the Already Ignited, We, the Woke, We Who Already Understand What’s Going On are eventually going to HAVE TO DO because

there. is. no. other. way. to remove our warmongering, false-narrative-creating oppressors’ 536 Rs and Ds from federal elected positions of power.

(If you know of another way to remove those 536 Rs and Ds from office, please spell it out, right here, right now and, BTW, reading another hundred really great books that tell you who’s holding the reins of power in one hand and your balls in the other; wishing upon a star, dream, dream, dreaming; hoping and praying and deep, deep, deep self-study and drug-trips are not going to do that job.)

THIS is how you “revolt”. If you do not want More Of The Same that you’ve gotten after every election in the past, do not vote for another R or D, ever, no matter what an R or D promises! Jimmy Dore explains EXACTLY why.

OTOH, if you DO want More Of The Same, when you walk into the voting booth, just vote for another R or D, makes no difference which. (The latter is what the Already Ignited, Already Fully Woke tens of millions of direct and indirect employees of, and the investors in, the MIC are going to do. They’re going to vote for No. 1 and they don’t give a shit if doing that ultimately leads to WWIII; they know precisely what they’re doing and why they’re doing it.)

    1. Well ISHKABIBBLE, “If you know of another way to remove those 536 Rs and Ds from office, please spell it out . . .”

Nuclear War! THAT is about the only way.

Tubularsock agrees with you and has been round and round this turn style so often and it leads right back to the start. Every time!

    2. There are many here among us who think that life is but a joke or, as Macbeth put it, “a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”
To be more accurate, it is moved by the wind of history, the all-encompassing chain of actions-reactions whose energy structure we are as doomed to be clueless about as the insect who lives two weeks in spring is doomed to be clueless as to what the summer looks like.
We don’t act (or vote) on a Ferris wheel or in a movie theatre. We just enjoy the show. If we can’t, it’s our fault – often, it’s bad digestion.
Except of course if we’re being tortured by psychopaths like presently the Ukronazis but this represents an infinitesimal minority of very unfortunate people for whom there’s nothing we can do while they are being tortured because we don’t even know about it.
The rest of us are just watching the wheel go round and round. We can even choose which aspect of the show we want to watch. Some people are war correspondents, faced each day with the worst things man is capable of while others scout the world in peace to discover the best that man and nature are capable of.
Head-chopping might be a nice hobby for a while but the English, French, Russian, Chinese revolutions all ate their children: Cromwell (albeit posthumously), Danton, Robespierre, Trotsky, the Gang of Four). Even if you’re crazy enough to try and substitute yourself to the wind of history and want to change the existing order, like Trump to an extent, you are banging your head against the wall of the deep state.
What’s behind if Number One falls? Guys coming from the same megalomaniac mold, insane enough to want power: Pelosi, Schiff, Schumer, Graham, McConnell, Killary, Bojo, Macron/Rothschild/McKinsey, Ursula (von der Lugen as Pepe Escobar calls her, instead of von der Leyen, Lugen meaning lies in German), not even speaking of the unelected: Gates, Schwab, the whole banking system, the MIC, Big Pharma, Big Agro, Big Oil, Big Brother…
      The song remains the same…
The green apple that you can’t snatch from the tree in June no matter how hard you pull will fall by itself, ripe and sweet, in July.
Of course, if you want to eat apples in June, which seems to be the doom of our species (with all the romantic heroism of fighting like hell to get them fucking green apples off the tree against all odds to eradicate evil), you are condemned to pain and despair.
And if you don’t fall into that, the long hours you spend wondering if or when the tree will be blasted by a storm is a waste of your precious time during which you could experience joy here and now by letting it all be.

If the world would only stop looking to the US as ‘our saviour’ !!! What more will it take to recognize that the US’ interests are only their own – everything else is just hypocritical posture??? It doesn’t matter who sits in the White House or which party dominates in Senate and Congress – the aim is always the same: divide and conquer because god spoke to them.

  17. There are a couple of things about this conflict, that aren’t nearly reported on enough.
    – The claim, that the entire world stand against Russia is utter nonsense, since the sanctions are only supported by the 5-eyes-states and the EU, which means a total of 14% of the worlds population. The other states seem to believe, that this is the global north shooting itself in the foot (a view, that i share)
    – Especially europe is strangling itself with the sanctions and i cannot understand why more people aren’t screaming about this single observation every single day.
    – The US$ is rapidly losing its role as the worlds reserve currency, since many countries (namely China and India) are establishing trade in their own currency. But that role of the Dollar was what made the US exempt from the requirements put on most national economies and pretty much gave them thje option to literally print money at will. How this isn’t anywhere in the news is totally beyond me.
Economic warfare, as Caitlin has already pointed out, is the US preferred and most frequent used weapon. Noone seems to think it even remotely possible, that it might fail this time.

    1. Vera Gottlieb Avatar

And all the sanctions are starting to act like a boomerang…you reap as you sow.

    2. “this is the global north shooting itself in the foot ”
Unfortunately, the rising prices of energy, food, and fertiliser are going to hit many other nations a lot harder.

    3. Michael Hudson in his latest edition of ‘Super Imperialism’ shows how the US has used its financial and military power to essentially force the world to pay for its own dominance, to pay for the military used to oppress them, and to avoid raising domestic taxes to pay for its military adventures, its bases, its purchase of foreign assets, and to cover its current account deficits. All this is a kind of tribute that gives the Americans a ‘free lunch’.

      1. Is it like this: run up national debt, then go rob other countries to make up for the deficit? Make people flee as refugees so they can become low wage workers in the US?

  18. I’ve personally little time for either of these two jokers but the distinguishing thing between Biden & Trump is that Trump is a patriot whereas Biden is from the globalist camp. The globalists own many things including the media & therefore the narrative. Thus, Trump was mercilessly attacked 24/7 from day 1 of his presidency all the way to sniffer Joe’s ‘success’. Trump was never given a chance which is clearly wrong. So the globalists are in charge and the greedy megalomania nuclear insanity is what we get. Not only do the globalists not care for us but they have swish nuclear bunkers packed with goodies just in case.

  19. Changsha night and day walk. Changsha, population 8 million, is a moderately important subset of an extra double whopper megalopolis.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTssQE23hms
The most instructive virtual walk so far, I think (beautifully bookended Max!). It starts in a park, an old one that propably predates Mao, switches to a part of the subset city proper, most of which looks like it predates Xi, in other words, built out a long, long time ago in the 90s (disgusting!), and then finishes along a river which across the way has rows and rows of skycrapers doing that communist thing, you know, the coordinated lighting displays that central command in Beijing requires all of it’s tall buildings to perform nightly.
But the reason I found it instructive, is one, the arm and arm and holding hands thing is hard to turn away from in this one, clearly, public displays of affection have been codified into communist law, if you do not perform them when you have the chance, you will be either ticketed and fined or end up in a Uyghur labor camp, and two, this walk really drives home the point that at minimum, 25% of Chinese children must be left unchaperoned at all times in large crowds, and allowed to run around willy nilly like wild banshees.
Presumably, all Chinese citizens must perform (or else!) the function of aunts and uncles and cousins in hunter-gatherer societies in such situations, and ensure that the children are not only safe but allowed to be free to do whatever the hell they want.
Outside of breaking central command’s littering laws of course. Litter has been forbidden in China.
The US cannot play the sanctions game against China because my country’s economy will be destroyed within a matter of months. China isn’t Russia. China owns at least 49%* of everything.
Now we can nuke em, I give my country a 4% chance of victory if we go for it, based mainly on our hunter-killers ability to track – and kill when the time comes – China’s boomers as they try to make their out of the noose we have around them in the South China Sea. If it’s a conventional war, aka a “limited and legal” war, well, we can take out the Three Gorges Damn and submerge as many as 400 million people and perhaps as many as 10 nuclear power plants.
And that’s it on the conventional front. China’s Navy is not only larger than ours, China will have a regional escalation dominace even greater than the one Russia is enjoying in the Ukraine at the moment. I mean, China can fire missiles at us from the mainland all day long and tell our Navy to fuck off and go home.
So those are the two, and only two military options, and if I’m right (along with shitload of other people), and this about oil and the petrodollar, then to me Saudi Arabia is the most inviting target ever, and will be next up on the list, because it’s easy, and because you can … knock unconcious? … two birds with one stone with that type of invasion and occupation.
*Yeah, the 49% Rule. First read about it in the late 1990s. Buy up whatever percentage of a company, corporation, bank or port that gives you nominal control, but also allows you to plausibly deny you actually run the joint. Enables a big, smart, forward looking nation-state that is functioning as nation-state, in an environment where there are no other nation-states doing any such thing, the ability to spread its tentacles far and wide without anyone really taking notice.

    1. There are still 150 or so hostages being held in the Avostal planet, according to this front-line report.
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAZ2bwI3lZo
How much is a hostage worth in such a situation? Well, according to “my sources,” roughly 15 hostages per one ton of food is the Nazi’s asking price.
      Human shields are free.
Speaking of human shields, Beau of the 5th wants to see them get smashed to bits, along with the Ukraine Armed forces. In this way only can Ukraine win and know the joys of freedom. It’s part of his Break the Hammer on the Anvil Strategy, the Russians being the hammer and the Ukranians being the anvil.
This strategy is so brilliant in fact, that apparently Beau has trademarked it under Beau’s Anvil Company, and is maybe selling hoodies like the one he has on? If he is, I mean, they are nice. Break the hammer in olive green. I like it.
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cykjxyuMSXc
One thing though Beau, if you want to continue to appear credible to your commentariate, which is clearly starting to question your genius, you need to stop quoting Russian sergeants and private mercenary organizations about their views on how things are going at the operational level, and take on likes of Scott Ritter or Sergei Martyanov, or you are going to lose your audience.

    2. I haven’t watched the video (it’s nearly two hours long!) but I wonder about ‘the arm and arm and holding hands thing’ being ‘codified into communist law’ or anything remotely like that.
It’s common here to see men or women holding hands in public (though NOT men and women doing so). Women in the UK often do this, but men holding hands would attract lots of attention, or at least would have done last time I was there, nearly thirty years ago. I suspect it’s much more of an east Asian thing, and little to do with what the CPC wants.

      1. I was being sarcastic. Apologies.
Were are you, if you don’t mind me asking?

        1. Oops, I just realized I better make it clear what was the intended sarcasm.
As far as I know there is no law in China requiring anyone to hold hands or walk arm and arm.
However, to this American, who has been around a bit, the physical displays of warmth and affection everywhere on display in China is revelatory.

          1. Are they between men and women, common in the West, or fairly strictly between men and men or women and women, as here?

            1. Common in the West yes, but not ubiquitous in nature. I myself have walked hand in hand many times. I find it quite pleasant.

      2. I remember the first time I went to Morocco in 1974, I was very surprised to see men holding hands in the streets, especially soldiers (in a country that was so culturally anti-gay that it was not even an issue), at a time when it was inconceivable in Europe. They told me it was a traditional display of affection, period.
As for Beau of the 5th, he probably thinks the world would be a better place if everybody had the good taste to look like him.
        I’m not sure I agree :o)

        1. Ditto here, male soldiers and cops publicly holding hands (though not them especially) – but men and women doing so, very much frowned upon.

        2. Beau of the 5th is nit, but he has a major platform, and in my estimation, he is the most effective advocate for a prolonged war on the current prolonged war scene. I would like to see his considerable influence … diminished.
As for the astounding frequency at which I see (heterosexual) couples holding hands and (mostly women) walking arm and arm in China as being highly anamalous to my experiences, I’m gonna have to let this one go, I guess.
          😉

  21. America has never been at war except for one event, the attack in New York. All American wars have not affected it’s population. They march on US holidays waving flags and watching American football on Saturday mornings while the victims of their armed forces are bombed, murdered from Helicopters, captured executed and imprisoned for a long time outside of the American “alleged” legal system.
They brag about their freedom citing their choice at the voting stand. Their ONLY choice is the Corporate party and always has been. This party is represented every four years by two salesmen (so far no saleswomen) who when chosen obey the orders of the Corporate CEOs. Until Chuck, Brad, Tony and Sparky are blasted by a missile in Omaha while watching the football game and their bodies are dispersed all over Main st. USA….There will never be any peace on this planet.

All this talk of “weakening Russia” reminds me of Churchill’s stirring speech in the House of Commons: “We shall weaken them on the beaches, we shall weaken them on the landing grounds, we shall weaken them in the fields and in the streets; we shall never stop weakening them.”
And of course FDR- “With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounded determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable weakening of Japan, so help us God.”
And MacArthur- “I will return, and weaken the Japanese”.
And let’s not forget Patton- “The object of war is not to die for your country, but to make the other bastard weaker.”
And yes it’s hard to lose a son or husband or father or maybe your entire family in a war, but the grieving mothers and wives and orphans can take solace that their loved ones did not die in vain, because Russia was weakened. Maybe Biden can put it in a fucking letter.

I think insanity is a tricky word to use in reference to politicians, who are fairly disconnected from reality anyway, but it really is unsettling to hear people like Moulton and Pelosi talk about winning a war with Russia, which during the first cold war would have gotten you dismissed for a lunatic, but welcome to the new normal. It’s hard to grasp that even people could think the US government is other than insane on this. The same bunch of clowns who spent the last two decades pointlessly sinking down to their axles in one little third world “cake walk” after the next now want to slap fight 6000 H bombs, just so they can keep pretending to run the world. It is indeed stark madness.

The only real consequences of the war, sans Armageddon, are that 1) the Ukrainian military will have substantially ceased to exist and 2) the shelling in Donbass will have ended. #1 has mostly already happened, and everyone but the psychos are OK with #2. So the official objective of prolonging the war to “weaken Russia” accomplishes what? Dismissing all the dead and suffering Ukranians, who obviously don’t matter, assuming it’s possible to materially “weaken Russia”, the fact is Russia isn’t credibly expected to engage in any further offensive operations in the foreseeable future. Absolutely the only strategic result of “weakening Russia” would be to increase its reliance on its nuclear deterrent. So yeah, Biden is maybe the worst US president in history, or what may be left of it. Everybody- left, right, center, center left, middle right, etc. etc., needs to adopt the political slogan “politicians are hate mongering trash”.

    1. He’s a real nowhere man siting in his nowhere land making all his nowhere plans for nobody.

  26. Maybe Lord Biden in his dementia-addled mind does not care if civilisation gets wiped out. In fact, with all of the dishonorable things he and his criminal son have colluded on which will surely come to light once people start looking, maybe he hopes no more history books are ever written so his name will not be synonymous with greed, grift, corruption, belligerence and shame for all future generations. The man is not only “out of it” half the time, he is simply mean, nasty, cussed and detrimental to the well-being of the citizens he was entrusted to protect. This country (US) and the whole wide world would be a lot better off if the creep was simply struck by lightning ASAP.
    ~
I know, he doesn’t have the grey matter left to perpetrate most of the calamities his administration has beset upon the modern world. That is mostly due to the connivance of that army of neocons he dragged with himself into the White House and they obviously have a backup (Harris) equally as malleable and facile as their maestro Biden. She will be as entertaining as a Punch and Judy Show when it comes her turn to be the Puppet-in-Chief. World Peace will still be targeted and the financial well-being of the Military Industrial Complex will remain enshrined as the nation’s paramount goal. Russia and China will continue to be attacked, but they cannot be defeated because then the neocons and the MIC would no longer have the mortal enemy they need to justify the never-ending wars and existential threat to all our lives.

To rule they must make us live in fear. The only way to preclude such a future would be for the American fascist state to fail, be overthrown and replaced like the Soviet Communists were in the USSR back in 1991. How likely is that when the gangsters in charge won’t even allow freedom of speech and the telling of truths in the Empire of Lies. Somebody was messing with the internet this evening and it wasn’t the Russians. Caitlin, did you know that all your recent articles went to completely black screens for a while–not certain when it started and ended. Every other site was functioning perfectly well, just your stuff was totally disappeared. Not a “can’t connect to server” message, just an entirely black screen reserved just for all of your postings, which I had left open in several windows and tabs as I routinely do for frequently visited sites. I think government hackers also mess with the Consortium News site, not blocking my access to them but their receiving my posts. They just vanish into the ether instead of being directed into the moderation file. Happens not always but with annoying regularity. Being denied communication engenders fear and mistrust, and the intel agencies know this. It’s one of their tools to manipulate us.

    3. 28. The absurdity of the situation is such that I am rooting for the worst President in US history to make it to at least 2024, because the immediate line of succession below – Harris, Pelosi – represent to me far more disturbing scenarios than having Sleepy Joe in the White House.
Does this make me a sexist? I don’t think so. It’s just the way the cookies crumbled this time. There are at least 300 male members of the House and Senate that are presumably somewhere in the line of succession (how deep does it run?) that I do not want anywhere near the Presidency, ever, because they’re all either psychopaths or half way there to becoming one.
Bernie in the Senate is solid as a rock, perhaps because he is a rock, and one that is already 80 years old. He is also at his center of his rock-like core, to borrow a phrase from the immortal Anna Kasparian in describing all of our Beltway politicians, “feckless.”
So Bernie is out. What does that leave us? Scan the American political horizon. Is there anyone on it that even remotely resembles Presidential material suitable for these troubling times?
No need to answer. That is a rhetorical question in my neighborhood, my neighborhood being the nation-state currently residing smack dab in the middle a continent known as North America.

      1. They’re going to be surprised when Trump does nothing to stop any of the wars.

  29. Not only is Biden the worst US president in history, he is the least competent because of his dementia. But he is also the most dangerous man on the planet right now because a) he controls US nuclear weapons, and b) he is easily influenced by those around him and by his visceral hatred of Russia.
He, and his regime, are rapidly losing any semblance of rationality. If it weren’t for the cooler heads in the Pentagon who understand the threat much much better than the White House and Congress, we could well be that much closer to extinction.

There is no reasoning with psychopaths. This whole country acts like everyone is on LSD.

    1. I have read its a fashion with the millionaires in Silicon Valley to take LSD to increase their creativity to be more like younger people.

        1. Hormonal psychopaths on LSD is their proper description.

  33. I figured them out. I read in one of the links posted in comments here that a Ukrainian journalist (hope she is safe) said that Zelensky represents global finance that wants to invest their depreciating fiat currency into (essentially) land in Ukraine. As soon as this tragi-comic was elected, the Ukrainian parliament started a land reform (privatization of land).
From the stand point of acquiring land in Ukraine in exchange for fiat currency by democracies that don’t manage their finances and prefer to hand it over to war profiteers, if Ukraine gets destroyed in a long proxy war, and most of its population has to flee to other countries, the land will be on sale at a steep discount due to the destruction of the country.
Just to confirm this, I read today that senior officers of Nato are hiding in Azovstal plant, from the US, UK and France! I asked myself, why France, then remembered that France likes to oppose British interests, so financiers in France must want a piece of Ukraine for themselves.
So these officers are from countries that use USD, British pound, and the Euro. Just like the journalist said.
Last and not least, Yahoo Finance has a headline that Elon Musk recommends to invest in the physical things. Many other rich people are very concerned about the US allowing inflation run too high for too long, and want to invest their paper money into real assets.
So this is their “strategy” in Ukraine. Let the country be destroyed so it can be owned on the cheap. This “strategy” works in favor of Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, who essentially are in charge of the US Congress. So here we go, their interests are aligned, and media can keep peddling their lies about defending Ukraine, while essentially forcing Ukrainians to flee their country.
Wait, there is more, I am sure the US Department of State will increase quota for Ukrainians to come to the US as refugees, so they can work for rich people’s needs here. The system in the US always works out for the very rich, it is “an economic miracle”.

    1. Doug Valentine, author of ‘The CIA as Organized Crime’ says the same thing, i.e. that western investors come in after the U.S. destroys a country in another regime change invasion/occupation and buy up all the land and assets at dirt cheap, then make a killing after the country is rebuilt in the coming years. It is all a premeditated plan-
